General Overview

We live right outside the city of Santa Barbara, California, in a small town called Montecito. Montecito is famous for its elegance, luxury and natural, peaceful beauty. We are 2 hours from LA.

Our home is walking distance to world famous Butterfly beach where you can uniquely watch both the sunrise and the sunset, watch locals walk their dogs, dolphins play in the water, surfers ride the waves, and spot the occasional celebrity. :) 

Our historic beach cottage is extremely cozy and charming and tucked away on a sleepy street down a little path that is so dark at night you can stargaze!

We love that our home is quiet and feels remote while also being within walking distance to incredible spots— sun-kissed beaches, 5 star resorts, Michelin star restaurants, local boutiques, and amazing hiking trails.

The location is truly unbeatable and people travel from all over to stay in this area.

You can spend your days around here in so many ways. For nature lovers— relax on the beach in the sun, sand and surf, or visit nearby Lotusland and enjoy the rare flowers and botanical gardens. 

For animal lovers- go whale watching or on a dolphin cruise, go horseback riding by the ocean, see baby seals at the Carpenteria seal sanctuary, or enjoy the Santa Barbara zoo with stunning views of the ocean.

If you are a mountain person, you can hike (we love Hot Springs hike!), mountain bike, rock climb or paraglide. You can also drive up into the mountains to see an incredible view and sunset.

For those who enjoy water sports there are endless options- kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, fishing, and surfing. We recommend SB sailing & the Paddle sports center.

If you enjoy a more luxury vacation feel, there are multiple 5 star resorts nearby to lounge at and roam the grounds, as well as many Michelin star or Michelin- mentioned restaurants. You can enjoy the designer store shopping at the nearby Rosewood, or browse the cute local boutiques and art galleries on Coast Village Road.

If you are a culture and art lover, Santa Barbara has a world class film festival, as well as art museums, history museums, and stunning historic Spanish architecture. You can visit the Old Mission and its rose garden, as well as the famous Santa Barbara courthouse, all within a few minutes drive from us.

Summerland is an adorable small town just south of us well known for its interior design stores if you are a design enthusiast.

If you are a wine lover, just north of Santa Barbara is Southern California’s ‘Napa’ or wine country. Visiting all the cute small towns and vineyards and tasting rooms makes the perfect day trip!

We also have a very comfortable sofa and large frame TV,  and an adorable back patio if you want to just sit around the house and relax or enjoy the sunshine.

We feel like this area is a true gem as it is laid-back, peaceful, and filled with nature, but also has endless activities, luxuries and amenities close by to make it feel like a true vacation destination. We love so many things about it and love to share it with people!

The Space

This is a lovely and cozy 1940’s beach cottage with tons of natural light, surrounded by flowers and greenery, and filled with cute quirks that come with living in an older home right by the beach.

We have 2 bedrooms— one bedroom has a king bed and the other has a queen. We say this is for 3 people because there is only 1 bathroom, but it could accommodate 4, depending on the party. We have hosted families, but we do prefer hosting 2 adults.

The living room has gorgeous high ceilings, and a large window fills the room with sunlight when the curtains are open. There are also black out curtains if you want your privacy or to take a day time nap. The living room is furnished with a large Frame TV, a PlayStation, books to read, and a comfy sofa and chairs to lay around and relax on.

We love how the kitchen’s large picture window has a beautiful view of our backyard garden and bougainvillea plant. The kitchen is furnished with all the utensils you need, a fridge, oven + stovetop. At the moment there is dishwasher or microwave. We prefer to use an airfryer and a crockpot.

We also have a large office space with a small sofa and a desk to work at and a washer & dryer.

Santa Barbara is extremely temperate--especially living so close to the beach-- so there is no need for air conditioning. We use fans in the summer and have a gas heater for the winter. We leave our windows and backdoor open to enjoy the fresh ocean air and sun.

Guest Access

This is one floor with no stairs. Parking is in the back and it isn’t well paved. Guests have access to the 2 bedrooms plus the office and the bathroom, as well as the living room and kitchen.

Neighbourhood

We live on a quiet, safe street surrounded by sweet neighbors. Lots of people love to walk their dogs around the area and to the beach. When the surf is good we see surfers with their boards and wetsuits everywhere. 

The stars are bright outside every night and it is peaceful and quiet. You can occasionally hear the waves from the beach when the tide is high, and also the charming whistle from the California Pacific Surfliner train on the tracks nearby. (It’s a scenic passenger train that doesn’t run overnight, just during the day).

The location is truly incredible as there is so much to see and do nearby. We are walking distance to Butterfly Beach, Hammond’s Beach, Miramar Beach, and Coast Village Road.

Butterfly Beach is a geographic rarity- thanks to its east west curve along the coastline, it is one of the few spots in California where you can catch both the sunrise and the sunset on the Pacific Ocean!

Right around the corner from us is the adorable stretch of Coast Village Road where you can wander around and shop all day and eat at delicious restaurants or run any errands.

Our house is also a few minutes drive from the Santa Ynez mountains with many hiking spots,  and close to downtown Santa Barbara with the Courthouse, the Harbor, the Pier, and State Street. Lotusland (rated as one of the world‘s top 10 gardens) is a few minutes drive away.

We are also within walking distance of two 5-star hotels (The Rosewood Miramar and the Biltmore Four Seasons) with impeccably kept properties that are beautiful to walk around. We are driving distance to a few more 5-star resorts (San Ysidro Ranch, Belmond El Encanto, The Californian) that are lovely places to explore, see a view, or get a drink or a meal.

The area has excellent food and restaurant options for foodies, with multiple Michelin star or Michelin-mentioned restaurants nearby.

Santa Barbara is known for its gorgeous Spanish architecture and natural beauty— sun and flowers all year long, stunning coastal views, long sunsets and mountain drives.

It’s a rare place where mountains meet the beach. You can see the mountains from the beach and the beach from the mountains. You can also see the mountains from our back patio!

It’s a popular area for cycling, hiking, surfing, paddle boarding, sailing, and swimming. The weather is good enough almost all year long to be outside.

Even though Montecito is known to be a luxurious and expensive destination and home to many celebrities, we have never found the people here to be anything but kind and laid back. 

This area is a truly spectacular as it is quiet and filled with nature and beauty, yet world class amenities and a variety of activities to do and places to visit are at your fingertips. It is such a unique vacation destination with something for everyone to enjoy. 

We truly appreciate so many things about this area and are so grateful to live here. We love to share it with people!

Getting to my home

We are a 15 minute drive from the Santa Barbara airport, and about a 2 hour drive from LAX airport. You can take the train from LA to Santa Barbara. It is best to rent a car but you can get around without one, we are walking distance to so much.

Nearest airport

The Santa Barbara airport is a 15 minute drive away. It’s very close and the best airport to fly into. It’s an easy Uber ride to get to and from the house.
You can also fly into LAX and rent a car or take the Santa Barbara airbus or the train up to Santa Barbara.

Getting Around

Lots of shops and restaurants, groceries stores, coffee shops, a convenience store, gas station, and bank are all within walking distance on Coast Village Road. You can bike or scooter around the area, or rent a car. The beach is walking distance from the house (about 8 min walk).

Alyssa

We have traveled and lived all over but are currently enjoying life in Santa Barbara, California right next to the beach. We also have a home outside of Nashville, Tennessee, as Logan is in the music industry.
Alyssa grew up in Asia and lived in Europe for a while but we both have lived the majority of our lives in California. 
We love to visit old friends in the places we’ve lived and also go on new adventures. We have done a lot of pet sitting and house sitting in the past and stayed and exchanged with many people as we’ve traveled (to over 30 countries!).
Our dream one day when we are parents would be to world-school our kids.
We are low maintenance and easy going, and we work remote so our schedules are very flexible. We love an excuse to travel somewhere new and make new friends and good memories.
