General Overview

# Please make sure to read “Getting to my home” before suggesting a swap. Thank you! ---------------- Our little mountain hut sits high up in the Paganella mountains near Trient, on a peaceful plateau (around 1.700m) with stunning views of the Dolomiti del Brenta. The area is dotted with small summer huts owned by local families from the nearby valleys – lively during the summer holidays, but most of the time wonderfully quiet and tranquil. This is a wonderful place for children. There’s a large wooden playhouse outside with a little couch, some toys and soft animals inside the hut, and of course the forest all around to explore and play in. It’s a true adventure spot for kids - plenty of space to roam, imagine, and just be free. Our hut isn’t a rental - it’s a family place, a spot close to our hearts where we always feel at home. We’ve only ever shared it with relatives and friends. We truly love this place, and we believe that the PLUs community will appreciate it just as deeply. That’s why we’ve decided to open it up and share it here. It’s a place for those who value simplicity, peace, and authenticity. If you love the idea of being offline, cooking on a wood stove, letting the kids build forest forts, and falling asleep to the sounds of the mountains — this might just be your kind of magic.

The Space

ABOUT THE HUT The hut has two floors – living and cooking downstairs, sleeping upstairs – and can host up to eight people (ideally a maximum of six). - 1 bedroom with a double bed (180×200 cm) - 1 bedroom with a double bed (160×200 cm) and a bunk bed (90×200 cm) - 1 sofa bed in the living room (for up to 2 people) There’s a wood stove for heating and another one for cooking and baking, plus a gas stove. It’s the kind of place where you slow down, light a fire, and let the day take its own rhythm. WATER & POWER The water comes from a cistern that collects rain and melting snow - so it´s not drinkable. In summer it’s usually well filled; in winter you’ll need to use water from a barrel. Hot water is available in summer when you heat the boiler with wood – it takes a bit of time but works reliably. In winter there is no running water and you have to boil it on the stove if you need hot water. We have some canister of drinkable water, which we refill at our stays. If you´ll hike or bike to the hut, we can discuss before you stay if there is enough water bottles for your use. The electricity comes entirely from solar power. At the moment, it’s enough for lighting and, on sunny days, also to charge phones. When the sun is weak, there is no water pressure in the shower. The solar system will be upgraded in summer 2026.

Guest Access

You can park your car at the end of the forest road, just below the wooden shed — from there, it’s only a few steps to the hut. Self check-in is available, and we’ll make sure you have all the details you need for a smooth and easy arrival. Please note: the hut is not fully accessible and involves steps and uneven terrain, so it may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Notes

A NOTE ABOUT NATURE & COMFORT Our hut sits in the mountains and isn’t lived in year-round, so please don’t expect five-star luxury . We always leave it tidy and give it a good clean before heading home, but since it sometimes rests quietly for a while, you might find a little dust, a few curious spiders, or the occasional mountain beetle waiting to say hello. There’s no Internet, but depending on the weather you can usually get mobile reception around the hut or a short walk up the hill. It’s a lovely excuse to disconnect a bit and enjoy the silence. We provide bed linen, but since there’s no way to wash it on site, we kindly ask you to bring your own sheet liners or hut sleeping bags to use between yourself, the sheets and the duvet. This helps keep the bedding clean and comfortable for everyone. Also bring your own towels, as dirty laundry cannot be left behind at the hut. Please note that all garbage needs to be taken back down the mountain - including used toilet paper, as the hut only has a simple soak-away pit beneath it. These little quirks are simply part of the experience and part of the charm if you love being close to nature.

Neighbourhood

From the doorstep, you can hike, mountain bike, or simply wander through the woods. In summer, a nearby mountain restaurant opens, serving hearty local food and even offering a free e-bike charging station. Wildlife is part of life here — you might spot deer, chamois, or marmots and bears. However, in over ten years, we’ve seen only one small bear, who immediately ran off when he saw us.

Getting to my home

The hut is only accessible by 4x4, and you’ll need a permit (€20) to enter the mountain area by car. The permit requires your car’s license plate number, and we’re currently checking if it can be sent to you by mail in advance. If you prefer to arrive on foot, you can hike up from the valley in about four hours, or take the gondola and continue with a two-hour walk. You can also reach the hut by mountain bike — from the gondola it’s about one hour. The Paganella area offers beautiful, well-prepared mountain bike trails, making the ride up part of the adventure. It’s a little remote - but that’s exactly what makes it so peaceful and special. Please note: we don’t provide a car.

Getting Around

The hut sits at nearly 1,700 meters above sea level, and the drive up or down the mountain usually takes about one hour. While there are no shops on the plateau, you can enjoy day trips to the surrounding valleys or even the Lake Garda — just keep in mind the time needed for the mountain journey. In summer, a nearby mountain restaurant opens, serving local dishes and even offering a free e-bike charging station.
