General Overview

Wooden Cabin in Fjellerup Strand, a small beach town in wonderful Djursland. The house is located on a hilltop at the end of a small road, next to the forest and just a 500 meter walk to the beach.

The Space

The house has two bedrooms, a big open living area and kitchen with high ceilings, a nice sleeping loft with TV and PlayStation and a big bathroom with a jacuzzi and shower. In addition there is a separate annex with a double bed. 

The house is placed on a bit of a hilltop and is surrounded by terrasses. One is a big, partly covered, wooden terrasse. On the ground you will also find an outdoor jacuzzi / wilderness bath with a wood burning oven (you can find wood in a separate shed), a foldable table tennis table, a BBQ, an open grill, a swing in a tree and a shed with bikes that you are welcome to borrow. 

The house can accommodate 8-10 guests as follows: 
- 1 bedroom with a double bed (180 cm wide) 
- 1 bedroom with 2 single beds (80 cm wide) 
- A sleeping loft with two proper mattresses on the floor (80 cm wide each) and a foldable mattress of 140 cm wide). 
A separate annex with a double bed (180 cm wide)

Fjellerup is small town, with big summerhouse areas, due to the lovely beach and nature. Within the town of Fjellerup (1-5 km distance from the house) you will find a grocery store, bakery, fish shop, pizzeria, and some cafes and beach cafes/restaurants serving food and ice-cream. 
You will also find a minigolf course, paddle and tennis courses, 2 campsites and of course the beach and forest. 

The area of Djursland has an abundance of sight and activities to offer, whether you are looking for culture, nature  or family activities. Within an hour drive from the house you will be able to visit all of the below

Århus (1 hour): Second largest city in Denmark and home to some amazing museums (amongst others Aros and Moesgaard), a lovely city center, great restaurants, an old village within the city, a Tivoli, an amazing Harbour area with a swimming area and cable park, a street food market, and great shopping.....just to name a few things.

Ebeltoft (45 min): Lovely old town where you can stroll through the small streets and visit Fregatten Jylland (a Danish warship from 1860) and Maltfabrikken. 

Mols Bjerge (40 min): A beautiful hilly area with great hiking paths and beautiful scenery as well as the ruin, Kalø slotsruin. 

Randers (40 min): Relatively big town with a nice city center, where you will find Randers Regnskov (rainforest within a set of domes) and a nice indoor swimming pool.

Grenaa (30 min): smaller town with a great beach, shopping streets and an Aquarium (Kattegat Centeret) 

Bønnerup strand (15 min): Small fisherman’s village, which you can bike to along the coast. The fish store at the Harbour is worth a visit.  

No less than 3 great animal parks (all at 30-40 min): Skandinavisk Dyrepark, Ree Park Safari and Munkholm Zoo 

Djurs Sommerland (20 min): Denmarks best amusement park (in my opinion 😊)

Golf resort and Spa (20 min): Lübker Golf Resort is a very nice golf course, which has also been used to host international competitions. You will also find an indoor pool, spa, cafe and restaurant there.

We had a lovely 8 days stay at Melissa and Greg’s place in Salir do Porto. Their home is spacious, extremely comfortable and we loved the style of the interior designs. It’s placed in a small gated community with a shared pool with a view and ping pong table. it’s a short drive or walk to the beach and a huge sand dune as well as easy driving distance to a lot of lovely beach towns and villages. Can highly recommend exchanging with Melissa and Greg!

We absolutely loved our stay at Filipa and Joaquim's bungalow. We stayed for 10 days, while Filipa and her family were also home. The cabin is very cosy and comfortable and we especially enjoyed the big terrace as well as the lovely pool next to the main house. Filipa had gone out of her way leaving groceries and fresh eggs from their chickens ready for us. Communication was great, both before and during our stay and Filipa even helped us book a surf-class. The location of the farm is also really nice, it is in a quiet area, but close to several lovely beach towns (with great restaurants) and the beautiful coastline. There is so much to do in the area. We went surfing, hiking, swimming, horseback riding and wake-boarding, all within 15 min from the house. We also visited a great waterpark (Slide and Splash) and Joachim guided us to a place on the beach where we could see dinosaur steps. So all in all we had a blast and can only recommend a stay at Filipa and Joachims bungalow. We look forward to welcoming them in Denmark for Easter!

We are a family of four, two adults and two kids age 9 and 12. We love to travel and our kids have already joined us on many adventures to countries in Europe and Asia as well as Australia and the US. My husband and I have also lived abroad in different countries before we had kids. We love cultural exchange and are excited to join this network. We have a dog, a small golden doodle (allergy friendly), which we would love to be able to bring on exchanges within driving distance. But we also have a friend who is happy to take care of her so we would not ask you to look after her if we cannot bring her.
We don’t have experience with home exchange, but have rented out our house before, in connection with longer travels.
