Neighbourhood
We live 1 km from the train which will take you to Copenhagen in 20 min, the airport in 50 min and Hillerød in 20 min. You can also take the bus, which stops 250 m. from the house, to the train station. Birkerød is a small town, but you will find everything you need here incl. restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.
The town also has an indoor swimming pool, playgrounds, a really nice skater park (you can borrow our kids scooters and skateboard :-), a cinema and a golf course (Furesø golfclub 2,5 km from our house).
Birkerød is surrounded by forests and lakes incl. Langedam (100 m.), Sjælsø (1 km), Rude Skov (1 km), Furesø (4 km). You can swim in both Sjælsø and Furesø in the summer. There are many nice walking trips you can take and Rude Skov has great mountain bike tracks if you enjoy mountain biking. We have bikes and a paddle board that you’re welcome to borrow 😊.
Copenhagen, which can be reached by train or car in 20 min, is known for its beautiful old (and new) buildings, royal castles, amazing cafes and restaurants, hip neighborhoods, shopping (with Strøget being the biggest shopping street), lovely parks and its incredibly clean harbor – so clean that you can swim in it. There are several harbors bathing areas around the city, which gives the city a unique vibe during the spring and summer. Once you’re in the city you can easily get around by metro and bus.
The area of North Zealand (Nordsjælland), where we live, also have several places worth visiting, which can all be reached within 30 min by car or you can also get there by public transport. These include Hillerød castle, Kronborg castle in Helsingør, Fredensborg castle and lovely beachtowns of Gilleleje, Hornbæk, Vedbæk and Rungsted Marina.
We also have several golf courses within the area, the closest one (Furesø golfklub) 2,5 km from our house.

We are a family of four, two adults and two kids age 9 and 12. We love to travel and our kids have already joined us on many adventures to countries in Europe and Asia as well as Australia and the US. My husband and I have also lived abroad in different countries before we had kids. We love cultural exchange and are excited to join this network. We have a dog, a small golden doodle (allergy friendly), which we would love to be able to bring on exchanges within driving distance. But we also have a friend who is happy to take care of her so we would not ask you to look after her if we cannot bring her.
We don’t have experience with home exchange, but have rented out our house before, in connection with longer travels.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
