General Overview

We live in a Strawbale house in the Rietspruit Conservancy overlooking the Rietspruit and Umgeni Valleys. Part ofa a secluded estate the home is a short walk from the Rietspruit river where a series of waterfalls cascade into the Umgeni valley below, providing swimming in summer and adventure year round. The nature reserve has various species of antelope as well as warthog, porcupine, jackal, serval, aardvark, bushpig, small mammals and many bird species. We are 15 minutes from the village of Hilton with the first 2 km on a dirt road. You will be staying in the African bushveld yet will be close to the amenities of civilisation. The estate has 4 other homes and 25 hectares of unspoilt natural bush with open access to the wider core conservation area of the Rietspruit Valley Conservancy and the Umgeni Nature Reserve downstream. We have back up power, so are mostly free of the electrical power challenges common in South Africa. Our home has unimpeded views across the Umgeni Valley to the town of Howick and on to the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and Giants Castle in the Drakensberg on the far horizon.
