Neighbourhood

We live in a lovely, small town on the shore of Lake Balaton (Central Europe’s biggest freshwater lake). If you start walking downwards from our house, you reach the lake in 10minutes. Here you can swim with swams and ducks, use our SUP to paddle in, try wakeboarding and a lot of other things. Winter-time the locals go ice-skateing on the frozen surface. In the other way (another 10mins) starts the forest. There are a lot of trekking routes amongst the hills of Balaton. These take you into the forest, up to medieval castles and famous vineyards, next to sunflower and poppy fields. Our neighbourhood is very quiet, full of friendly people and a lot of families with small children, who love to play together in the playground 2minutes from us. Life is very quiet here. Birds chipping, everybody greets the other on the street and all the rural cliches you can think about :)

Getting around

A supermarket is 5mins walk from the house. You can visit the biggest bio market of the region in 20mins by car. Hévíz is 15minutes by car, here you can dip in the largest thermal lake in the world which is available to bath. It’s water is super healing, full of water lilies and always warm, bathing here during autumn or winter is a misty, unique experience. You can enjoy every type of wellness service in the complex, as well. There are a lot of restaurants in the area, from panoramic wineries to fine-dining and farm-to-table ones, or simple inns with typical hungarian dishes. From here you can wander around our most famous national parks or visit several historic sites as day trips. The capital, Budapest is 2hours’ drive. I recommend having a car to be able to discover the area better. Public transportation is also good and available.

Ramóna

We are a family of four from Hungary. I am Ramóna, and I am a yoga teacher, my husband -Tibi- is a freelancer software developer, and we have two sweet baby boys: Alex (3) and Vince (1). We love to be close to nature, it got very important to us after the birth of the boys. So we moved down from Budapest (the capital) to this special, magical little town halfway between the lake and the forest. Our dream was to provide a slower childhood for them, full of jumping in mud, playing with sticks on the fields, throwing pebbles into the lake and adventuring in our forests collecting snailshells. We want to show them other cultures and tastes, teach them to respect the beautiful diversity of our world and share our love for travelling with them.
