Our’s is a comfy family home that is very well equipped for all your needs.
We have 3 bedrooms with a double bed in each. The secluded garden has a seating area for meals or wine outside.
Windermere is in the Lake District National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is arguably the most beautiful area of England - full of lakes, mountains & forests! It has good public transport links, with a train and bus station an easy 10 minute walk connecting us to the rest of the lakes, as well as Manchester Airport (via a direct train service). Unsurprisingly, we are surrounded by spectacular walks, from hills such as School Knott and Brantfell just a short walk away to the views and trails across and around the fells and lakes. We're lucky not only to be surrounded by beautiful scenery, but also lots of restaurants, shops, galleries, a cinema & a theatre - all within walking distance! Short drives away will take you to the more larger and more famous fells (mountains), lakes, museums, and quaint towns & villages. This area is also known for art, craft, and literature - think Wordsworth, Ruskin, Beatrix Potter.
The space
Downstairs we have a well equipped kitchen with an island hob + bar stools. Our lounge / dining room has 2 big sofas and an arm chair, a TV (with netflix), wood burner fire, extendable dining table & chairs. There is also a seating area outside. We have a small utility area with washing machine & dryer and an outside area to air dry clothes.
Upstairs we have 3 double bedded bedrooms all with lots of hanging space & drawers. The upstairs bathroom has a shower-bath combo, sink & toilet. There is also a toilet downstairs. We have a small alcove office if you need to catch up on any work. Outside we have a secluded garden - front & back, that both catch the sun at different times of the day. We also have 2 off-road car parking spaces available plus extra street parking close by if needed.

Neighbourhood
The house is located in the village of Windermere. It is a very popular tourist destination and therefore is teaming with cafes, restaurants, and shops to look around. Despite the busyness of the village centre, our house is located in a quiet residential area where the best of both worlds can be enjoyed. We are spoilt with very easy access to mountains & lakes - perfect for walking as well as to drive to and picnic beside. We will be happy to offer suggestions of the best places to visit. There's also outdoor sports (climbing & water sports) available through a number of companies. If you're looking for a bit of culture, we have 3 theatres, many art galleries, museums & historic houses to visit. When you want to relax we have an array of lovely bars, restaurants & shops in the area, as well as 3 local independent cinemas, all within easy drives or bus rides. The South lakes area is not large so towns like Ambleside, Grasmere, Hawkshead & Coniston are only short car or bus rides away.
Getting to my home
Trains, planes & automobiles!
Nearest airport
Manchester is the closest airport with a direct train service to Windermere station which is 10 minutes walk from our home or a short taxi ride. Manchester is a 1.5 hour drive from Windermere. Liverpool airport is our second nearest airport.
Getting around
Windermere has good train links and bus routes. The rail line ends in Windermere so although useful for getting here you will need to use buses or a car for exploring. Getting out into all the wild spaces is easier with a car but it is doable using buses.

We could meet PLUers for a coffee and give suggestions for walks and other activities in our area.
This was our third exchange with Jacqui’s family because we just love their home and location. It’s perfectly placed to enjoy all the wonderful Lake District has to offer and their home is so homely and well equipped. We really enjoyed borrowing their Canadian canoe this time and exploring some new places. Our four year old learnt to ride his bike in the excellent park/playground a short walk away. Anyone who loves the great outdoors will have a fantastic time here.
We had a fantastic exchange! We appreciate being able to stay in Jacqui's home for a globe.
Their home was comfortable, cosy and clean.
We loved relaxing in their garden too.
Its about a 5-10 minute walk to Windermere with many shops, restaurants and pubs. Bowness is also only a 15 minute walk away, as is the lake.
The towns can be busy with tpurists in the summer (there is certainly a buzz!) but when you go into the beautiful surrounding nature you can find many wonderful hiking trails with almost no people.
The lake district is a stunning area of England, especially for those who like walking.
We can highly recommend an exchange with Jacqui.
A cosy, comfortable home in a brilliant location for exploring the Lake District. We feel so fortunate to have stayed here for the second time. Jacqui’s family made us feel welcome and kept in touch regularly to answer questions. Anyone who gets the chance to stay here should grab it!
We were lucky to get the opportunity to exchange with Jacqui and Graham. As they wanted to travel locally, we used one of our globes. It was a perfect stay. We enjoyed their very comfortable home and cosy gardens; lots of flowers and herbs. We toured the magnificent Lake District and were able to get help via whatsapp when needed.
Their home is close to everything you want to see and using public transport is also quite doable. The area is fantastic and they are in an excellent to explore it. As said, Jacqui was really helpful during the whole stay and we look back on this trip very positively.
For anyone who gets a change of exchanging with this lovely family, we’d say go for it! They come highly recommended.
Jacqui, Graham and Hana have a beautiful, homely house in a brilliant location for exploring the Lake District. There is so much to see and do within walking distance, and we particularly enjoyed the walks with lovely views straight from the front door. The kitchen is well equipped and the house has all the comforts of a well loved home. Their house manual and walking maps were very useful for planning our days out, and Jacqui even suggested some personalised child-friendly and wet weather day outings we could do. We would wholeheartedly recommend their home and would love to return ourselves in the future.
We really enjoyed our stay in Windermere. The house was very comfortable and well situated. We decided not to take the car and didn't miss it, as there are very good local walks or you can take the bus to go further afield. Amenities are all within walking distance. Booths is a great supermarket and we can recommend the French restaurant Francines if you want a treat (pricey but well worth it). Thank you Jacqui and family for a very successful exchange.
We had a fantastic stay at the Bassett's beautiful home in Lake Windermere. Jacqui had left everything that we needed, and the house was super comfortable. Checking in on arrangements ahead of the swap was really easy, and Jacqui was quick to respond to any questions. We can't recommend enough - and our stay reminded us of all the fantastic advantages of home swapping. Thank you to Jacqui, Graham and Hanna! We'd love to repeat ;-)
Jacqui,Graham and Hana’s lovely comfortable home, is situated just a quarter of a mile from Windermere and a mile from the lake. It’s an ideal location to explore the Lake District, which we did mainly by bus. The weather was good and we spent many an evening sitting enjoying their garden.
We enjoyed the fabulous views on our walks but also managed to visit nation trust properties as we are members.
Communication was great, and we kept in contact via messenger as needed. We would certainly recommend this home to anyone wanting to visit the Lake District.
We were so pleased to be the first to exchange with Jacqui and Graham. They live in a beautiful part of the Lake District. Within walking distance of Lake Windermere and lovely villages. Lots to see and do. Their home was very comfortable and had everything we needed for a successful stay. Tilly the cat was a pleasure to look after. We look forward to our next time at their home.
Jacqui’s family are the perfect guests. They took great care of our home, watered the garden and allotment and even made some of our figs into jam. We came home to a spotless home with beds remade, and we really appreciated some sweet gifts for our children. Absolutely recommend them as exchange partners.
Jacqui’s family are the perfect guests, they took great care of our home and left it extremely clean and tidy. Jacqui very kindly made lots of our figs into jam to avoid wasting them, this was such a lovely gift to come home to, as were the sweet little gifts for our children. The Bassett family will always be welcome in our house.
Jacqui , Graham and Hana stayed in our home for just over a week. They were the perfect guests.
The house was immaculate when they left and they left us a beautiful gift.
I would absolutely encourage anyone thinking of exchanging with them to go ahead.
Jacqui, Graham and Hana were wonderful guests. They took great care of our home and we returned to a wonderfully clean and tidy house, you couldn’t tell they’d been there. They even kindly offered to wash bedsheets and towels before they left. Communication before and during the swap was great.
Jacqui and family were perfect guests in our home. All communications went smoothly. The flat was clean and tidy when we returned.
Jacqui and her family were ideal guests. we came home to an immaculately clean home. All the bed linen and towels had been washed and were ready for us to make up the beds again.
Our elderly cat Sophie had been well looked after, which we were extremely grateful for.
Jacqui has family living not far from us, here and we would be happy to welcome them to our home to meet up if they are in the area again.
Jacquie and Graham were perfect guests in our home. They were respectful and careful. We are planning another exchange with them this summer.
Sarah was very easy to communicate with before & during the exchange. Her and her family were good guests in our home.
Second time staying in Sarah’s lovely home in Bath which is testament enough. As before this gorgeous classic Bath terrace has everything you need but this time it also had yummy ripe figs from their trees! It’s in a great spot convenient for everything Bath-esque but also in a quiet village- feel area with great coffee & brunch spots.
As always Sarah & her family were perfect guests in our home. Everything was left beautifully clean. Communication was always prompt & friendly.
Maria & Leo with their little dog were perfect guests in our home. Communication was easy and Maria was a pleasure to deal with. Maria & Leo left our home beautifully clean & tidy.
Thanks Jacqui,
We loved our stay and the feelings are mutual!
Wow! Shirley’s home didn’t disappoint! It is a dream home - so beautiful and very relaxing to spend time in. The rooms are all grand and sumptuously decorated with everything you could need for your stay. We’re already looking forwards to our next visit!
Sarah & Steve’s home is a beautiful, characterful home with all the convenience & comfort you could need for your stay. It’s situated on a quiet road to the front and is a very short walk to some nice cafes and shops - perfect for brunch! We very much enjoyed our stay at their home. Buses into Bath were easy and frequent which made life simple.
On our arrival Sarah had left us a little present of wine and chocolate which was appreciated as was her lovely clean home!
Sarah was also quick to answer texts whenever we needed to ask anything. We would definitely swap with Sarah & Steve again in the future.
Sarah, Steve & their little boys were perfect guests in our home. They kept the greenhouse plants alive and left our house beautifully clean.
Ana & Colin’s home is a lovely spacious flat in the Leith area of Edinburgh. Their home has everything you could need for your stay & is very handy for all the lovely brunch places in Leith! We also had the best Indian meal at Mintleaf in Leith.
Ana & Colin were excellent guests in our home. All communications were straightforward in the run up & during our exchange. They left our home clean & tidy too.
Catherine & her family were the perfect guests in our home. All communications were straight forward and Catherine left our home beautifully clean. She & her family would be welcome anytime!
We had a lovely stay in Catherine’s comfortable home in Edinburgh. It’s ideally situated with great views of hills at the back. The coastal areas were gorgeous and Catherine had recommended some great cafes & restaurants for brunch! I’m sure we’ll swap again in the future.
Christine & Colin’s home is very comfortable with a lovely conservatory to laze in. The garden is so lovely to sit in in the evenings too. Their home has everything you’d need for your stay. Christine was a great at communicating & was always ready to help with advice. Ixworth was a really lovely quiet village with beautiful old houses.
Christine & Colin we’re perfect guests in our home. They left the place thoroughly cleaned & washed the sheets & towels too.
Eileen’s home is such a beautiful place to stay - comfortable & clean and so near the beach. We had some gorgeous late night walks by the sea. She thinks of everything too - she’s a very experienced home exchanger! We will certainly be exchanging with her again in the near future.
Eileen and her husband had a lovely stay in our home - but you could barely tell they’d been here at all since it was left so clean!

Our home is in the Lake District National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and arguably the most beautiful part of England. We’d love to open our home for others to enjoy this special part of the world too.
