Our holiday home is just meters from the lakefront of Lake Kaniere, Hokitika, South Island. We have had many happy holidays here from the time our children were babies (they are now adults). It is generally very quiet over the summer months however it has become popular over the weekends.
It is 20 minutes inland from Hokitika which is our closest town which has a supermarket, restaurants and many lovely shops to wander. The town is on the beach front and you can enjoy the beauty of the wild West Coast beach.
It can rain a lot on the West Coast so we would recommend coming late summer to autumn and even winter can be incredibly beautiful with less rain in these months and often very sunny but cold in the winter.
The Space
We have 3 bedrooms, master with ensuite, bunk room which sleeps 5 and another queen bedroom.
The master bedroom is upstairs (not many stairs) with a lovely view of the lake, the bunk room upstairs and the other room downstairs. The lounge has a an open fire and looks directly on the lake along with the kitchen and there is further bathroom downstairs.
Guest Access
You access the outside with 5 stairs and access the 2 upstairs bedrooms with 6 stairs.
Notes
Lake Kaniere is a beautiful part of the West Coast of the South Island. It has a small DOC camping ground overlooking the lake and is a hidden gem with the most beautiful hiking and biking tracks. If it is peace and tranquility you require, this is the place, however it does get quite busy on public holidays.
We will require a cleaning fee as we also live 3.5 hours away and will have to employ a local cleaner .. the cost would normally be around $100

Neighbourhood
Lake Kaniere is just holiday homes with some permanent residents. There are no shops of any sort, just the most amazing hiking and biking tracks from easy to advanced.
Getting to my home
There is no public transport from Hokitika so you would have to have a car
Nearest airport
The nearest airport is Hokitika. There is no public transport from the airport to so the best way would be to hire a car or the other option is to fly to Christchurch International airport and hire a car. It takes around 3.5 hours to drive from Christchurch, however it would be a great option to say somewhere on the way over... Arthurs Pass would be a good option which has the most amazing hiking tracks.
Getting Around
Lake Kaniere is approximately 20 minutes inland from Hokitika so a car would be required
