General overview

The house is open plan downstairs with a toilet and separate shower room. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a single plus a bathroom with bath/shower and toilet. Outside I have a south facing terrace and a modest sized garden with lawn and fruit trees. It is a 10-15 (1.5km) minute walk to the town where there are all the shops you will need.

The space

The back of the house faces South so living room, dining room and double bedrooms all receive lots of sun. The kitchen with gas hob and electric oven plus the living rooms are open plan. There are two sets of doors which open onto the terrace with table, chairs and parasol plus barbecue. Also downstairs are a toilet with washbasin and a separate shower room with basin. Upstairs there is a bathroom with bath, shower, sink and toilet plus two double and one single bedrooms and a large landing.

Guest access

Wide stairs with handrail. Small step up into the house.

Notes

There is a drive on which a car can be parked plus a garage and workshop for bikes etc. During the summer kayaks can be hired from my club in Auray https://www.kayakauray.fr/. Lots of places to hire bikes. There is a reasonable system of cycle lanes around Vannes and Auray plus some longer distance ones completely off road. Map showing cycle routes available. Although you could manage without a car, to really get the most out of your stay especially to access some superb beaches a car is recommended.

Neighbourhood

Swimming pool 200 metres, shops 1.5km, woods and country walks 500 metres. The neighbourhood is a group of around 50-60 houses on a one way street. Mix of retired and young families. Very quiet.

Getting to my home

As well as flying into Paris or a more local airport or taking the ferry from the UK, the TGV (Train à Grand Vitesse) covers the 300 km from Paris to Vannes in under 3 hours; fastest 2h 35m and on average 2h 50m. You can get to and from Vannes by bus from Grand-Champ; stop is 200m from my house or taxi.

Nearest airport

Airports at Nantes, Lorient, Brest and Rennes serving most of Europe and North Africa. Airport Paris Charles de Gaulle is 500km away, approx. 5 hour drive, virtually all on motorways. Ferry ports of Caen and Cherbourg are 300-360km away about 3-4 hour drive, nearly all on motorways.

Getting around

Walk to the town in 10-15 mins or hire a bike. Regular and reliable buses from the town to Vannes every day except Sunday and 'jours feriés (public holidays).

Neil

I'm British/Australian and have lived in my house for 3 years. I fell in love with the Gulf of Morbihan almost ten years ago and finally bought the house in 2016. The house was built in 1970 and is part of a group of about 70 houses on a quiet one-way road. I live in a town called Grand-Champ, literally “big field”, about 22 km from Vannes and Auray. The town of nearly 6,000 inhabitants has all the shops you need on a daily basis including 3 bakers, a butcher, 3 bars/cafes and a medium-sized sipermarket. All this 15 minutes walk from the house. The house is also close to the countryside for walks and bike rides. Depending on the type of water activities you are interested in, rivers and the sea can all be found within an hour's drive maximum.
