General overview

Our lake home is located on beautiful Lake of Bays in Muskoka, Ontario. It is cozy and comfortable with spectacular views and all then amenities of a home in the city. With plentiful wildlife, gorgeous landscapes, a clean and deep lake, quiet roads for walking and spectacular Algonquin Provincial Park nearby, this is a paradise. Our dock has a canoe, kayaks, a paddle board and a ladder to get into the water for swimming (or you can jump). There is no beach or shore access. It is deep enough to dock a boat but we do not have a motor boat at this time.

The space

It is a three level home, with the main level including the kitchen, dining room, family room, full bathroom, two bedrooms and a walkout to the deck. The upper level includes the main bedroom, large closet and full bathroom. The lower level includes more living space, laundry facilities, a full bathroom, extra fridge and freezer and walkout to the backyard. )Some of the photos are from the real estate listing when we bought the cottage so not are all up to date. We are slightly more minimal in our decor approach but it is still cozy, peaceful and relaxing. (Any photos with white walls indoors are more recent). The property includes a grassy level with firepit, large stone stairs down to the lake, and a steep driveway up to the road. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for small children and no provisions have been made for wheel chairs or disabled guests unfortunately.

Guest access

There are stone stairs going down to the lake, stairs going from the lower outdoors to the driveway and a very steep driveway (not for the faint of heart). While there is parking right at the cottage levels, care must be taken to drive down from the road. Our daughter often parks at the top and walks down but it is quite a long steep walk down as well.

Notes

We do not use our fireplaces and we require that they remain unused as I have smoke allergies. We do have a small miniature poodle that is with us when we are at the cottage. No pets are allowed. There are mosquitoes from May to mid-August and blackflies May and June. It's cottage country in Ontario - there are biting flies which are better or worse depending on time of year and weather.

Neighbourhood

Our lake house is on a point and with broad lake views. There is a lovely mix of full time residents and cottagers in our area. We do have helpful locals nearby that can lend a hand if need be. The closest small towns include Dorset (20-25 minute drive) which is charming, has a great grocery store and other necessities, ice cream shop, marina and more. Huntsville is a larger town/city which is about 35 minutes away. Algonquin Provincial Park is about 35 minutes away. And more!

Getting to my home

We will provide detail driving instructions but it's not difficult and Google will get you there. A car is necessary. Transit is not an option.
