General overview

This cute house is located in one of the most interesting neighbourhoods in Vancouver. EastVan as it is affectionately known is a multi-cultural area with restaurants, shopping and nature all at your doorstep. The views from the deck and living room look across the working harbour with ships sailing past all day long in front of the snow capped mountains. There is hiking and cycling just minutes from the door. But if you would rather catch a movie or go for a meal you can either walk a few streets over or jump in the car and find yourself downtown or on Commercial Drive, the artsy strip with great shops and watering holes. The beauty of it is that the street itself is quiet and dotted with parks with tennis courts, public swimming pools and green space. You can walk to the harbour and back in a leisurely hour or walk up to Hastings street for a meal in one of the many international restaurants. Families, young and old mix comfortably in this vibrant community, There is a playground and off leash dog park at the end of the block. Yoga and gym facilities are close by as well. It is a lively mix of industrial across the inlet and residential yet a stones throw from both the North Shore hikes in the majestic mountains or cultural destinations. I have two bicycles for your use and if I am away we can work out the use of my vehicle. We are 2 hours from Whistler, for world class skiing and 20 minutes from 3 very good local ski hills (Cypress, Grouse and Mt. Seymour) that are all amazing hiking areas in summer. Drive 1 hour to Squamish for cable car and less than an hours drive to discover the quaint farms and towns of the Fraser Valleys wonders. Very central location for all exploring.

The space

Built in 1947, this pretty and comfortable home has all the modern amenities. You will have a newly renovated kitchen with all the bells and whistles because I am an avid chef. Complete with a gas stove, quartz counter tops, hardwood floors throughout and everything necessary to cook your favourite meal. The living/dining space has a tv, gas fireplace, comfy couch and views of the mountains across the harbour. I have art and collectibles throughout the house and there are many books and music to choose from to pass the day. The front deck is the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine or dinner during the summer. Or choose to relax in the landscaped backyard away from people amidst the flowers and vegetable garden. The main bedroom is not large but well laid out with a good mattress and a desinger queen size bed. The office/den has a working desk that overlooks the back garden and a fold out double futon that serves as a second bed. There is high speed internet and a printer for your use. The bathroom has heated floors and great water pressure. Not a huge house at 900 square ft but all the comforts of a home away from home. Please note that there is a couple living in the separate suite below but they are very quiet and you will probably never see them. Also the laundry is only accessible from outside as it is shared so you must go out the back deck and down two steps to get to the laundry space. I will ask guests to water my indoor plants once a week please. My neighbours are great and can be of assistance if you have any questions. A true Vancouver neighbourhood.

Guest access

Although the house itself is on one floor the entrance to the house requires about 10 steps so if you have mobility issues please think about this or enter through the back door which only has two steps but must go through the back alley.

Neighbourhood

Hastings Street is the up and coming hip area. You can walk there in 10 minutes to sample Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Italian cuisine to name a few. There is a wonderful bakery (Breka) that is open 24 hours a day! From pharmacies, small local bars to banks, this neighbourhood has what you need. My own street is quiet and great for parks to walk along in the evening. Lots of families and doggy owners. We are located on the Trans Canada bike path so your cycling adventures begin at the door.

Getting to my home

Vancouver International airport is half hour drive. It’s good to have a vehicle for some outings but the number 4 bus (5 minute walk) takes you downtown and to the skytrain as well to the sea bus so you can see everything without. If I am away we can certainly work out using my vehicle.

Nearest airport

Vancouver International airport is a half hour drive away.

Getting around

You can walk to the closest shopping area in 12 minutes with local shops, bakeries, restaurants and pharmacies. We are located on the TransCanada bike path so if you fancy cycling anywhere it is easy to follow the bike paths to any part of the city. Driving will get you across the bridge to the hiking/skiing areas in 20 minutes. Downtown can be reached by car, bike or public transport. The closest bus stop is 2 blocks away.
