General Overview

We are not hugely flexible this year with existing travel commitments and dog-sitters staying at our house already confirmed but hope to be more flexible in the future and will soon start looking for 2026! We are located in wonderful Kemptown in Brighton - the bohemian heart of Brighton, with a colourful mix of cafes, bars and restaurants and the most LGBTQ friendly area of Brighton. The flat is just 10 mins walk from the centre of Brighton - including the historic laines, the beautiful Brighton Pavilion, and the main shopping street. We are also just a few minutes walk to the beach and the wonderful and historic Brighton Pier! You can see the sea from outside our house and the beach is just at the end of the road, perfect for a quick sea dip (or perfect to come back to quickly for the toilet after drinking sundowners on the beach!) Brighton is an inclusive, free-thinking seaside city with a huge number of incredible restaurants, bars and cafes. There is always something to do here - with a lot of art, comedy and music throughout the city. The Fringe is here in May and there are festivals every weekend throughout the summer. Brighton is in Sussex, a county full of green hills and beautiful landscapes with plenty of wonderful walks and historic and interesting places to visit. We also enjoy the many vineyards that have popped up in the last few years - at least 15 in a one hour drive of the flat - provides a wonderful experience for a great day out!

The Space

We are in the basement of an old townhouse but it's not like any other basement flat you'll have been to! 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (1 WC, 1 bath and 1 shower) as well as a small study and a separate living room and big kitchen with a big table that seats 8. Most unique for a city centre location, we have a lovely garden space with a spacious patio area which is encircled with big mature plants and a big sofa to relax in the summer. We have lived in many different countries and this is reflected in our decor which is colourful and eccentric. It's a very happy space with lots of character. We love board games and have around 30 of different difficulties. The house also has a piano keyboard, a standing/sitting desk in the second bedroom that I use as a study (pictured), and there is a separate very small (windowless) study with another desk. We have google home in every room so music can be played anywhere (and it's always on when we are here) and there is a TV in our cosy living room.

Guest Access

We are only on one floor (with two single steps in the hallway) but since it's in the basement there is a set of stairs to get access the front door. The flat can also be accessed via the back through the garden which is only 1 step.

Notes

We have a dog - a lovely staffie called Jaxon. He won't be around when you stay but he is allowed everywhere so if you have allergies I do not think we are a good stay for you!

Getting to my home

There are direct trains to Brighton from London. London Gatwick airport is the closest airport - just 30 mins on the train. We are 20 minutes walk or 10 minutes bus (or uber/taxi) from the train station.

Getting Around

There are buses right outside the flat that go to any place in the city and some that go further like Eastbourne to hit some of the great walks around Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters. Brighton is a very walkable city so if you have the time you don't need much in the way of transport - it's lovely to walk along the beach all the way to Hove and go north whenever you want to hit the city.

Jessie

We are Jessie and Jurrat, now based in Brighton after growing up in Switzerland and Texas respectively, meeting and living in Bangladesh, with a quick stint in London before buying our first home in Brighton. We love food and are avid home cooks, with Jessie running a monthly seasonal social supper club. We both enjoy sports (ultimate frisbee and basketball respectively) and enjoy the gym and running. We absolutely love to travel. I (Jessie) also manage Airbnb bookings (and now PLU stays!) for our family holiday home in South West France where we have been going on holiday for almost 30 years!
