General overview

Bicheno is a scenic seaside town with around 1000 residents. There are beautiful white sandy beaches on the doorstep allowing for many ocean activities. Our home has been designed and built to take in the wonderful views of the ocean and coastline. It is passive solar so stays wonderfully sunny and warm through winter and summer. Freycinet National Park is approx 30 min drive away and Douglas Apsley National Park is about 20 min drive. Spectacular views can be had after a short walk, or longer scenic walks are available. Fresh water waterholes for swimming in the national Park. Long stretches of uncrowded beaches on the doorstep. Mountain bike parks and trails are within the region. We are in a popular tourist destination so there are plenty of sightseeing, activities and attractions. The east coast of Tasmania is known for its Great Eastern Drive and wine trail and there are numerous vineyards along the highway. All offer cellar door tastings, and a few offer great food choices. There are also Distilleries and breweries in town and dotted around the region.

The space

Our home has 3 bedrooms, 2 with double beds and 1 with a queen bed. There is an open plan upstairs living area connected to the kitchen and a toilet. Downstairs has the bedrooms, laundry, bathroom, seperate toilet and a garage. Our home is on a double suburban block, with vegetable garden, fruit trees and native plants to attract bees and birds. There is an outside enclosed bathroom (in a small shed) which has a shower and toilet which we use for hot water showers or wetsuit washdowns after spending time at the beach or other ocean outdoor activities. Laundry has a washing machine and there is a path from the back door to a nearby clothes line which receives full sun all year. Airing racks are inside if weather is inclement.

Guest access

Double storey house. Front entrance has steps. Back door to backyard and clothes line has a ramp but there are steps up to the ramp and back landing. There is an internal L shaped stairway with 14 steps from ground floor to 1st storey.

Notes

Home has a large solar panel system on the roof that feeds electricity back to the grid. Home uses tank water and electric water pump, however town water supply is available as a backup and to ensure water is potable at all times.
