General Overview
There is something for everyone in Munich: From museums, historical sites and its parks and beergardens to the lakes, mountains and castles in the surroundings of Munich.
My home is a small, but cosy two-bedroom- apartment, located in a very quiet and safe residential area in the south of Munich, between the city centre and a big forest that brings you to the beautiful lake Starnberg.
The Space
There are two bedrooms and a livingroom, balcony and a garden, a double bed, 160 cm in one bedroom (in the attic) and a 120 cm bed in the other bedroom. If necessary, an extra person could sleep on the sofa in the living room. During the warmer months we enjoy chilling on the balcony or in the garden.
Guest Access
The flat is in a semi-detached house on the first floor. It's a typical house with a very steep roof that my grandparents built in the 50s. On the ground floor is a shared flat with four young professionals. Very nice and quiet, no worries ; )
We share the garden and the entrance, but I do have my own flat with my own kitchen and bathroom.
Notes
Because of steep stairs it is unfortunately not suitable for little ones or if you have mobility problems.

Uli was a supernice host. She was ready to welcome me quite short notice and even though my flight arrived quite late in the evening.
She welcomed me with a smile and a hot tea on Munich's first day of winter and we had a very nice chat.
She even gave me some items for breakfast the next morning, because it was too late to buy anything when I arrived.
Her place is supercozy in a quiet suburb of Munich, yet with very easy and fast connection to the center. It's spotlessly clean and has everything anyone might need. There is even a private terrace attached to the room, which is probably very nice in summer.
It was a hospitality stay, but I very much hope that I can welcome Uli back at my place at some point.
Thank you Uli for the wonderful Hospitality!! We enjoyed staying at your home in Munich a lot and would love to meet you again.
We had the pleasure of staying with Uli for 4 days last week, and we absolutely loved the experience. Uli has a beautiful home and was very welcoming. She also gave us great suggestions about places to visit near Munich, which are a bit different than the places that are frequented by tourists.
We really enjoyed ending our days by having conversations with Uli about what we did and about life in General. It was like catching up with an old friend!
We stayed in Uli's home for nearly 2 weeks. It was very comfortable (though the weather was a bit hot!) It's within easy walking distance to the underground, and the Munich train/underground system is extensive and easy to navigate.
Uli's apartment is on the first floor of a renovated older style home, situated in a lovely garden. The apartment is not large but is very well designed. There's access to a laundry in the basement and Uli ensured there were spaces for us to unpack during our stay.
Uli herself was exceptionally gracious as a host, inviting us to take the train an hour up to where she was staying in her traditional family home on the shores of Lake Chiemsee, and showing us around this stunning area.
We fell in love with Munich and its surrounds and would happily return for another stay.
Come back anytime! It has been a pleasure having you here.
We loved staying with Uli!! Her home is in a very sweet neighborhood, quiet and safe and close to the train. She was very communicative and helpful.
Uli and her home were lovely! The location was convenient to the subway station, the home was clean and comfortable, and Uli was kind and thoughtful. We appreciated so much her willingness to host me and my twin sons for our first few days in Germany. It was so nice to start out in a home with someone who could give us some guidance and suggestions for our upcoming travels.
Uli’s home has really nice and cozy vibe, we felt like at home in Munich. The home was well equiped with everything needed and Uli is such an amazing host, she really took care of us. This was our first exchange and it was truly memorable experience in Munich. The neighbourhood itself is really calm and well equipped, we really enjoyed the time we spent at Uli’s home.
It has been a great pleasure hosting you! I look forward to visiting Bratislava. Without the floodings!
We absolutely loved our stay at Uli’s, what a beautiful home and a fantastic location. Walking distance to grocery store, bakery, cafe, restaurant and the tramline. Uli was so welcoming and helpful and we really did feel like we were at ease in her home. Her neighbour is beautiful and quiet and felt very safe even when we were walking back to her house very late after the concert. We hope to meet her again and maybe even visit again with the kids. I would absolutely recommend a stay here. Thank you so much Uli x
I am glad you enjoyed your stay! It has been a pleasure meeting you. Come back anytime. And bring the kids! I would love to meet them.
Uli’s place is in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood within a 10 minute walk of multiple grocery stores, an excellent bakery, and a metro station that can get you into the heart of Munich within a 20 minute ride. Nearby is a forrest with paved pedestrian and biking trails. Munich itself is a gorgeous city with lots to see and do. In addition there are countless day trip opportunities for hiking, water sports, visiting picturesque Bavarian towns, and even Salzburg. The public transportation is excellent, and for only €49/month you can get to all of these places at no additional costs. The food and drink (especially beer) in this part of Germany is something special.
The house itself is the top floor and attic of a semi-detached house with modern kitchen appliances, pleasant balcony spaces, and comfortable rooms that make you feel at home. Something that was surprising was just how quiet the neighborhood was in terms of lack of traffic or other people generated noise, given that it's a half an hour from the bustling center of a world class city. Whenever we had a question or needed something, Uli responded very quickly and she took great care of us. The downstairs neighbors were also nice and helpful if we had a question or needed something.
We concluded our first hospitality stay and had the pleasure of hosting Uli and her daughter Chiara at our home in Berlin.
Our experience with the hospitality was absolutely amazing! Uli and Chiara are both wonderful human beings and we loved spending time with them. Since they’ve left, our home sort of feels empty.
We felt like a family with Uli and Chiara, and looked forward to interacting with them everyday!
We wish Uli and Chiara more adventures and hope that our paths will cross again in future!
Thank you both so much for your kindness and your generosity. It has been a pleasure getting to know the two of you. See you soon in Munich!
Settling our non-sim exchange with Uli went fast and smooth. I sent an email, we had a nice video-chat and we settled the agreement. We send some whatsapp messages back and fort before our exchange and during her stay. Uli left our house in a very good condition and left amazing honey and flowers for us! So sweet! Our pets were well cared for and we felt secure and safe with Uli in our house. We hope to visit Uli's place in Munich in the future!
I had feeling like we know each for some time already, feels like having a friend in Munich. Uli took great care of us, and she was always ready to help if needed. Thank you for sharing your home with us Uli and waiting for you in Bratislava.
Uli's daughter Chiara stayed with us for a hospitality stay whilst she sourced accomodation for University here on the Sunshine Coast. We loved having Chiara in our house and we were a bit sad to see her go. She is such an interesting, polite, and warm person, and would welcome Chiara or her family to stay with us if they ever visit Australia in the future.
Dear Leonie and Colin,
Thank you so much for hosting Chiara and making her first weeks in Australia so easy and enjoyable. For me, it was great to know her to be in such good hands. I hope to see you in Munich or at lake Chiemsee someday! Or even in Australia, who knows. Thank you for the offer. I look forward to meeting both of you in person.
All the best and happy travels, Uli
The communication with Uli was great, starting from our very first video chat. She had a genius recommendation for us to get Deutschland tickets that wound up being a fraction of the cost of paying for daily trips on the metro, buses, and regional trains everywhere, and even getting to Salzburg. We stayed in touch with Uli leading up to our stay and felt very comfortable and excited going to stay at her flat while she and her sister came to stay at ours. We saw each other briefly at the airport as we took the same plane they arrived in.
Throughout our exchange Uli was very quick to answer any questions we had and always had great ideas for us. We had the luck to meet Uli’s daughter Chiara and explore the picturesque Castle Herrenchiemsee together, as well as the nearby island while having the best apple strudel and hand made marzipan we have ever tried. Chiara was the sweetest, just like her mom, and just as helpful.
We had a chance to spend some time with Uli before heading back home. We explored a beautiful monastery together with an adjacent brewery and huge, delicious pretzels. As a bonus, we also checked out Starnberg lake and town, and finally tasted a unique Bavarian dessert we have heard of, but haven’t tried yet (kaiserschmarrn). On our last day, Uli was very kind to take us to the metro station in her car.
Uli took amazing care of our home. When we got back, it’s almost like no one had stayed here, except there were some gifts on the table and a thoughtful thank you note.
Thanks a lot. I am glad that you enjoyed your time in Munich. Come back any time!
It has been a great pleasure hosting Jo and Brian on their big Christmas Markets tour. They are wonderful guests and took great care of my place and left everything a very clean and tidy condition. Thank you for the lovely exchange. It has been great meeting you.
Nicole has been staying with me on a hospitality exchange while she was visiting a conference here in Munich. Everything was perfect, communication was fast and easy, and Nicole took great care of the flat. Nicole, it was lovely meeting you, welcome back anytime.
In July, my daughter and I were hosted on a hopitality exchange by the lovely Falguni and her husband Manish. So, we were very happy being able to repay the favour and hosted them for a couple of - unfortunately rainy - days here in Munich. It was great catching up and spending some time together.
Dear Falguni and Manish, thank you for everything, it was great meeting you again and hope to see you again in Munich or in Berlin!
Meredith and Jim are a really lovely couple, and they were exceptional guests and took great care of my place. We also had the chance to meet and get to know each other which I think is a very nice part of exchanging with PLU. We had a great time together; conversations were fun and enriching. Dear Meredith and Jim, Chiara and I are very happy to have met you, and we hope to see you again some time. You're always welcome back here in Munich or at the lake!
It has been a pleasure hosting Veronika and her two children Eleanor and Everett. They have been wonderful guests and I very much recommend hosting them. Communication was easy and decisions were made quickly.
Dear Veronika, Eleanor and Everett, you are welcome back here in Munich anytime. Thank you for your lovely drawings and happy travels!
My daughter and I spent four lovely days at Falguni’s and Manish’ place in Berlin on a hospitality exchange. They both are the nicest and most generous hosts and immediately made us feel welcome and at home. Their place in former East Berlin - Schöneweide is close to the river, within easy reach to the city centre by public transport.
We visited the Museum Island, Wall Museum, the Palace of Tears, the Bundestag and the documentation centre NS Zwangsarbeit which is very conveniently located right in front of Manish’ house. Another beautiful day trip led us to Potsdam and Sanssouci palaces. So much to do and not enough time.
Dear Falguni and Manish, we are grateful that you let us stay with you. Thank you so much. It was perfect and it was a great pleasure spending time with you and we hope to see you soon in Munich.
It has been a pleasure hosting Megan and her sons o a hospitality stay during their first days of discovering Germany. They are a very nice and considerate family who took great care of my place. I hope you guys will enjoy your trip. Thanks a lot for the gifts and I wish you a great time and friendly sunny weather, especially for the bike ride. Have fun!
I had a great time at Jessie’s in Leuven. The Broos family’ s house is perfect, well equipped with everything you could need and a nice garden with a blooming apple tree. It is within easy walking distance to the train station as well as the centre of beautiful Leuven, but nevertheless totally quiet. And of course, the house was spotless clean. Tibs, the cat, is very sweet, cuddly and easy to take care of. She kept me company during remote work. Chicken and rabbits were a first for me. Not only were there fresh eggs to collect in the morning, but there was also fruit, cheese and chocolate and much more left for me to try.
Getting around in Belgium (for me unfortunately only the Flemish part so far) by train was very easy and convenient. As the trains run very often, I never had to wait long. The cities I visited from Leuven, Ghent, Bruges and Mechelen, were very impressive with beautiful medieval architecture and so many outdoor cafes. Leuven itself is also very recommendable, beautiful city centre and people were friendly. Jessie also provided a guide of what to do in and around Leuven.
Thank you for having me!
Eva, Dusan and sweet little Klara stayed at my place and visited many of Munich’s museums. I had the luck to meet them in person and have a nice chat. Baby Klara is just the cutest. Communication prior and during their stay was excellent and we kept in touch during the exchange. They were perfect guests and left the apartment spotless and took great care of the plants.
Dear Eva, Dusan and Klara, it has been a pleasure hosting you. Thank you for the lovely gifts from Bratislava and the beautiful cyclamen. I hope you could enjoy your stay despite the rainy weather. Come back any time!
Eva and I agreed on a simultaneous exchange in September. Due to the severe floods in those days I could not go. Eva was so kind as to offer me to stay some days in October. But due to family reasons, again, I couldn't go. I am sure at some point, another possibility to visit beautiful Bratislava will come up. Surely then there will be only nice things to tell about Eva's and Dusan's and little Klara's place and the area they live in.
Samantha and Karen are perfect guests. They stayed with me for a couple of days to spend some time in Munich and most importantly to see Adele in concert. Weather was great and I am happy they enjoyed summer in the city and of course the concert.
Not only did they take great care of my place and left it spotless, but they also brought the most delicious Irish chocolates and super cute gifts.
I completely recommend inviting them into your home. Samantha and Karen are easy going and very nice people to have around and great fun, as well. I am glad, we could meet in person. I loved our chats in the kitchen and in the heat of the noon on the balcony.
Dear Samantha and Karen, it was a pleasure having you and I hope to see you again in Munich or in Kilkee!
Leonie and Colin were so kind to welcome me into their home while I was looking for a share house to stay at during my semester at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Their lovely modern and spacious home is located within easy walking distance to a great beach and all daily necessities like supermarkets, gas stations and restaurants.
But, most importantly, Leonie and Colin are super nice and the most caring people. They went out of their way to make my first weeks in Australia as comfortable as possible, they helped me with so many things such as transport, getting a bank account and phone number set up and so much more!
If you ever get the chance to host or stay with Leonie and Colin: go for it!
Dear Colin and Leonie, thank you so much for everything. I hope to see you in Germany!

We stayed nearly three weeks at Lana’s, Roger’s and their son Ryan's place. Coimbra is a charming smalltown in the middle of Portugal, within easy reach are many lovely beaches, mountain hikes, monasteries and of course, Lisbon and Porto. Lana and Roger were so kind as to point us to several nice restaurants where we had the best grilled fish. They also prepared a guidebook for us with extremely helpful suggestions on what to do in and around Coimbra.
Their apartment is spacious and clean with everything you need for a nice vacation. If you want to you can also make your own yoghurt. They also left some delicious treats for us. Everything was in place to make our time in Coimbra smooth and enjoyable.
Getting around in Coimbra and getting to other towns by train or bus was easy and there was always an Uber or Bolt to catch, very cheap and convenient.
We enjoyed our stay in Coimbra a lot. Thank you, guys and hope to see you again.
I was delighted to get the chance to host Lana, Roger and their son Ryan on a simultaneous exchange. They are an easy going and open-minded family and perfect guests. Communication with them was easy and we kept on texting during the exchange to see if everything went to their liking and to find out what sights they decided to visit. As we returned a couple of days prior to them, we had the opportunity to spend some time together on an excursion to the countryside and get to know each other a little bit.
In addition to that, they left my flat spotless. Lana took great care of my plants and Roger even got to change a bulb and tighten some screws. Their teenage son Ryan is a very clever and educated young man with interesting views on different topics. Completely recommend inviting this lovely and considerate family into your home!
To Lana, Roger and Ryan: I wish you many more happy exchanges and hope to see you again some time. Always welcome!
