General overview
What you will love about this home
We are located just 30 minutes from Lexington on a scenic byway that winds past Adena Springs (home to many top stallions!) and other gorgeous farms! Explore all the historic horse farms of Bourbon County—Claiborne, Runnymeade and so many others. Forest Retreat Farm, birthplace and burying ground of 1954 Kentucky Derby winner Determine is close by.
Take a stroll down Main Street in Paris for a truly southern/equestrian shopping experience. Make sure to time your trip to have lunch or dinner at one of the many upscale eateries featuring meat and produce from local farmers.
The circa-1816 log cabin contained within a renovated farm house features four bedrooms and two bathrooms and will sleep a total of seven. In the kitchen you will find everything you need when dining in, including farm-fresh eggs from our free-range hens for your dining pleasure. Several delicious eateries are located nearby and dozens more can be found on the scenic drive in to Keeneland.
The unique décor of our home is a blend of Kentucky antiques and modern and classic original artwork—even several “Moneighs.” These are one-of-a-kind framed abstracts actually created by famous equines themselves—horses such as Cigar, John Henry, Skip Away and Our Mims!
Surrounded on all sides by an Amish community, you will enjoy a trip back in time as (weather permitting) you begin your day with coffee on the front porch as the buggies clip-clop by.
End your day sipping a glass of wine as the sun sets over the sheep fields. Listen to the cattle lowing and the soft snorts and whinnies of the mares in the paddocks as you prepare for a restful night of sleep sans traffic and city noise.
Our love of animals is evident. We have a 10-stall barn for horses as well as AKC kennels with a fenced play yard attached. If guests are traveling with their dogs, they are welcome to house them in the kennels. No need to care for our furry friends--we will have that covered--and there will be no pets in the house during your stay.
If we are in town during your stay and have Thoroughbreds in training, you are welcome to come experience morning workouts at the track and get behind-the-scenes info on horse racing!
Many of our neighbors are Amish, and you will no doubt meet them on your stay. We are less than 2 miles from a quaint small town with surprisingly good dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The town of Paris, 15 minutes away, boasts several excellent dining spots, including micro-breweries and distilleries.
The space
Four bedrooms, one downstairs and three upstairs. The upstairs 'suite' has a queen bed connected by a bathroom to a small bedroom with a twin bed. The other two bedrooms, each with full size beds, share a downstairs bathroom.
Guest access
Two floors, with stairs to be navigated. Because the house was built over 200 years and added to all along the way, there are various and sundry step-ups and -downs.
