General overview

Quebec is a beautiful city, and we believe that our small apartment, ideal for a couple, will be an excellent resting point for your stay! Day 1: Do the classic sightseeing tour of Old Quebec: walk the Grande-Allée, visit the entrance hall of the Château Frontenac. Eat an ice cream while browsing the Terrasse Dufferin. Explore the Quartier Petit-Champlain, then stop mid-afternoon for dinner at the Buffet de l'Antiquaire on rue St-Paul. Day 2: Visit the Saint-Jean-Baptiste district: walk the rue St-Jean. The gay bar Le Drague offers memorable drag queen brunches, the clothing boutiques and hair salons are unique and very welcoming. Finish with the long walk on the Plains of Abraham, filled with history. Day 3: Saint-Sauveur is an economic district: take advantage of it! Choose the Brunch plate at Restaurant au Passant ($12). Shop around for second-hand clothes at the Service d'Entraide Basse-Ville (between $1 and $6 for a piece of clothing). Order take-out at La Poutinerie, and picnic at Dollard-des-Ormeaux Park while watching sand volleyball matches! Day 4: See life in green! Different parks and gardens are worth a visit: the Domaine Maizerets, the Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge, the gardens of the Parliament, the Domaine Cataraqui... Finish with a swim in one of the many public swimming pools (and all free!) from the city. In particular, the Promenade Samuel de Champlain swimming pool was inaugurated in 2023 and offers the appearance of an infinite swimming pool with the river in front! Day 5: Be trendy: walk the Limoilou district. The whole of Third Avenue is great: the Babeurre and Le Cendrillon restaurants, the La Réserve delicatessen, the Article 721 boutique... Finish with a long walk around the Saint-Charles River and the Anse-à- Cartier! 1-2 hours by car Day 6 to 8: Explore Charlevoix! Baie St-Paul is very pleasant to walk, and filled with lovely shops for visitors. Some villages are especially remarkable: Les Éboulements, Saint-Irénée... We stop for a snack and for the view! The Domaine Forget or the Auberge des Aïeux are reliable accommodation options at low prices. La Malbaie is the second largest city. 3-5 hours by car Day 9 to 10: After Charlevoix, go to Côte-Nord for the great landscapes and marine proximity! Tadoussac and Baie-Comeau are essential stops. Camping Mer et Monde, in camping or glamping formula, offers Les Grandes Bergeronnes a breathtaking accommodation option! CAMPING KIT: We have a camping kit! With a tent for two, two self-inflating groundsheets, two retro sleeping bags (for summer camping), everything you need for the kitchen and all the useful accessories, you won't miss ANYTHING if you feel like get out of town and choose the outdoors!

The space

TELEWORK: We have a height-adjustable desk (standing or sitting) with 2 monitors and an ergonomic chair. Wi-Fi is high speed and unlimited. CAT: Our cat Colonel is a gentle and very sweet 6 year old Himalayan who loves human presence, likes caresses and sometimes likes to play. He sleeps at night, does not meow often and eats wet food. Depending on the context and your planned presence, we could leave him at the apartment or bring him elsewhere for cat-sitting. KITCHEN: Oven, microwave, air fryer, filter coffee maker, espresso machine, electric coffee grinder, dishwasher and freezer are at your disposal! The washing machine is in the common basement and the electric dryer is in the apartment. LIVING ROOM: The sofa is comfortable and long enough to be used as an extra bed. There's a Bluetooth soundbar for watching music and movies, a smart TV, a foldable bench, and adjustable weights (up to 52.5 pounds). INFANTS/CHILDREN: There are fragile or heavy objects and chemical cleaners on the floor. We have neighbors below the apartment. Due to this smaller space, we do not recommend our place for 0-5 year olds. Our apartment could be suitable for an adult and a child over 5 years old! There is a queen size bed and a sofa in the living room. GARDEN: The large garden two floors below is ours: you are invited to pick vegetables and flowers at will from July to October! MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS: We have a musical keyboard and an acoustic guitar. Depending on the context, we might be open to including it in the exchange. If so, the neighbors are used to the low noise of it: just play for acceptable hours.

Guest access

We are on the 2nd floor. There is no elevator. The front staircase is interior and the rear staircase is exterior.

Notes

What we are looking for as an exchange: We are aiming for exchanges between ten days and 3 weeks, as much as possible simultaneous, but we could discuss a Globe or a non-simultaneous exchange if the conditions allow it. Our favorite places would be destinations less than ten hours away by plane, avoiding heat waves. So spring, fall or even winter trips are absolutely ideal for us! Big cities and mountains are our thing... Tropical destinations and beach towns are a little less our thing! Want to take advantage of the following events? in July - Festival d'été de Québec (the biggest outdoor musical event in Canada), in June - International Theater Crossroads, in January - Quebec Winter Carnival Give us a sign! We would love for you to take advantage of our advantageous location! As we participate very little in crowds, we can easily leave the city at these times.

Neighbourhood

The Saint-Sauveur district is extremely well located: it is at the center of the Montcalm, Old Quebec, Limoilou, Saint-Roch and Ste-Foy districts. It's really easy to get to wherever the action is! As for the neighborhood itself, it is quite quiet and diverse. There are seniors, families, people living alone, students, in short, everything! We feel safe there. It is possible to park easily on the street, and we even have our own parking lot! The courtyards are rather interior, which gives the impression of a rather gray neighborhood, but the houses are nicely decorated with flower beds. We are also fortunate to have very few AirBnBs in the area. Your neighbors will be those who have been there for a long time! Our apartment is two blocks from Boulevard Charest, which crosses the city. It's very accessible, but also quiet enough and quiet enough to sleep well.

Getting to my home

Our apartment is 15 minutes by car from the Jean-Lesage airport in Quebec. You can take the bus (every 30 minutes) for $3.75 or a taxi for $41.50. You could also arrive by train or bus, in downtown Quebec. The stop is named Gare du Palais. We are 7 minutes away by car/taxi or 12 minutes by bus (stops very close to the station and our home).

Nearest airport

Jean-Lesage Airport is 13 km from us, 18 minutes by car/taxi or 55 minutes by public transport. For preferential rates, many people take their flight to Montreal. From Trudeau Airport in Montreal, you can take the Orléans Express bus in the direction of Quebec City, for $86. As this bus goes through Charest, it passes right next to us... I'll share a little tip with you: if you don't have any luggage in the hold of the bus, you can ask the driver to drop you off after rue Marie de l'Incarnation. This is one of the two stops that Orléans Express makes at the request of passengers! Enjoy!!!

Getting around

AUTOBUS: The application to download is RTC Nomade. We are very close to routes 802, 19, 18 and 1. We are also within reasonable distance of frequent routes 800, 801 and 807. A single passage costs $3.40, or $9.25 for the whole day or $32.50 for 5 consecutive days or $61 for 20 tickets (price in July 2023). TAXI: The application to download is Taxi Coop. BIKE: We have a summer bike that can be included in the stay. Quebec City has an all-electric bike rental system, with a station two blocks away. Traditional bicycles can also be rented from nearby shops. CAR: We have a 2017 KIA Forte and a parking space for it. Depending on the context, we might be open to including it in a concurrent exchange. The application to download to pay for parking when paying (ex: Old Quebec) is Copilote.

Marjorie

Vincent (H-38) works as an animator in video games, working remotely. Marjorie (F-37) is a production makeup artist and hairstylist who had extensive CouchSurfing experience (both as a host and as a traveler) in her twenties. We respect the spaces we stay in and love cats! As a pale redhead who easily gets sunburned, Vincent avoids the beaches! Instead, we're looking for bustling cities that are easy to navigate, showcasing exceptional architecture, history, and food! We have no children, just a cat.
