Neighbourhood
Here you will find peace and quiet, sea breeze and beautiful nature. We live in the outskirts of a small, charming coastal hamlet, which is very popular during summer, so the center of the village can be quite vibrant during summer. There you will find two very popular restaurants, an equally popular fish shop, a pizza takeaway and an ice cream kiosk.
There are several beaches within walking distance, mostly rock beaches, but there are some small sandy beaches as well.
There are two grocery stores a short drive away, and you will reach two train stations as well as the town of Fredrikstad within 25 minutes by car.
Fredrikstad's main tourist attraction is the historic Fortified Town, which is the best preserved fortified town in Northern Europe: https://www.visitfredrikstadhvaler.com/en/The-Fortified-Town/
Fredrikstad, which is divided by the river Glomma, Norway's longest river, also features a popular dock area which is packed with restaurants, as well as the also very popular city ferries, which are free of charge: https://www.visitfredrikstadhvaler.com/en/product/?tlp=2149803&name=City-ferry
Our home is located about one hour drive from the Swedish border, so when staying here you can experience two countries.
It takes less than 1,5 hour to drive to Oslo, but it can be very difficult and expensive to find parking in downtown Oslo, so we recommend driving to Råde train station (25 minutes) and to take the train to Oslo from there (1 hour).
Nearest airport
Oslo Airport Gardermoen, about 2,5 hours away.
Getting around
As mentioned above: You will need a car to get around. There is a bus service from Engelsviken to to Fredrikstad, line 114, but we don't live very close to the bus stop.
