General overview
We have enjoyed living in our home for 30+ years -- we raised our four boys here and it is full of wonderful memories for us, which you will find traces of on our bookshelves and in the artwork that fills our walls. We love to cook, so our kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need to prepare your own meals. We have a closet full of family-friendly games, a TV with extensive cable service, Wifi, and a lovely, private backyard to enjoy from spring through fall. You can even build a fire in the backyard fire pit in the depths of winter if you dare! We are happy to share bikes, cross-country skis, golf clubs, tennis rackets. And the house comes equipped with piano, guitars, and a variety of African drums, among other instruments. We often care for our young grandson in our home, so we have a full array of baby/toddler items if you need them (pack-and-play style crib, changing table, infant play gym, toddler bed, two high chairs, stroller, lots of blankets and baby and toddler toys and board books and picture books galore!).
The space
The house has two stories, 2 bedrooms and one bath are upstairs, one bedroom, a study (which could be used as an additional bedroom) and another bath are downstairs. The kitchen, dining room, living room and a four-season sunroom are all on the main (first) floor. Laundry room and storage are in the basement. A detached garage is at the back of the lot.
Beds: The bedroom on the first floor has a double-size, very comfortable futon. Our primary bedroom, upstairs, has a queen-size bed. The second bedroom upstairs has two twin beds, which can be used as twins or combined to make a king-size bed. The baby and toddler beds can be set up anywhere. All beds (except the baby beds) are made up with European-style duvets and duvet covers.
Guest access
2 floors, one set of stairs links the 1st and second stories. Another set of stairs leads to the basement. There is a front door inside a small porch, which can be locked, and there are two back doors. Guests must be able to navigate steps at both front and back entries.
Notes
The house has recently been repainted, indoors and out. The garden is always undergoing renovation and redesign. And furniture is frequently moved around as needed for guests and changing household activities -- so things might not be positioned exactly the same when you arrive as they are in the photos. But the basic room and furniture design remains the same.

Neighbourhood
Our immediate neighborhood proudly identifies itself as the "near east side" of Madison. It is located just off the Isthmus, which separates the east and west sides of town, with Lake Mendota situated to the north of the Isthmus, and Lake Monona to the south. Our house is located two blocks north of Lake Monona, two blocks west of a neighborhood park with a children's playground and an elementary school with a great playground for bigger kids, and two blocks from a small commercial district with a number small, locally owned businesses and restaurants. We are also close to bus lines and bike paths. While you're in Madison, you won't want miss the Saturday Farmers' Markets around the Capitol Square, Memorial Union Terrace on the UW-Madison campus, the UW Arboretum, Henry Vilas Zoo, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Batch Bakehouse, the Willy Street Co-Op, and the Jenifer Street Market.
Nearest airport
Dane County Regional Airport is 10 minutes away (3.5 miles). General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee is about an hour and 15-30 minutes away (82 miles). Chicago O'Hare Airport is 2 to 2 and a half hours away (135 miles).
Getting around
If we are traveling without our car, it will be parked in our driveway, which we share with our immediate neighbors. If we have taken our car, our parking spot will be available for your use.
While the house includes free, off-street parking for a vehicle, it is also very easy to enjoy Madison without a car. There are a number of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance (3-blocks). We are also located between 2 different bus lines (2-3 blocks to bus stops), and very close to several bike routes. Guests are welcome to make use of 3 bicycles stored in the garage. Taxis and Uber are also readily available.
