General overview

SEEKING SOMEWHERE TO DO A SAFARI (SOUTH AFRICA?) FOR THE FIRST 2 WEEKS OF AUGUST. Apartment would be available for a non-sim exchange at Christmas. We have two college age girls who may be working and need the apartment this summer. Hence it might not be available for exchange. \NOT AVAILABLE FOR FRANCE'S ALL SAINT'S DAY -NOT A HOLIDAY IN THE US We might be able to accommodate PLU's for weekends in exchange for Globes. Welcome to New York and our beautiful apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, in the heart of the Big Apple close to museums, shopping, restaurants and all the famous tourist attractions! The building has a 24-hour doorman (concierge). We're blocks from Central Park, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Madison Avenue Shopping! The subway is a half block from our building, and you can be in Times Square, the crossroad of the world, in about 15 minutes.

The space

Our apartment is appropriate for two adults and two kids. It has the following features: - Master bedroom with a King Size bed, connecting to master bathroom with bathtub/shower, sink and a toilet. - Kids' bedroom with a full sized bunkbed, close to the 2nd bathroom with bathrub/shower, sink and toilet. - Living room that can be converted to a guest area. It has double-size sofa bed, chairs and TV - Kitchen has all appliances including espresso machine. - Washer and Dryer in the building - Wi-Fi

Guest access

Our building has an elevator and our apartment is appropriate for two adults and two children. AirB&B's are illegal in NYC, and while exchanging is very different, it's very important that our friends are discreet.

Notes

We usually seek a Caribbean home (house, not condo, or apartment) with pool in March in exchange for our NYC apartment at Christmas (or sim, in March). We have a very friendly cat named Adrian Binx who will be your roommate if we're doing a simultaneous exchange. It would be appreciated it if the exchanger could look after him while we are away.

Neighbourhood

The Upper East Side is a classic New York neighborhood, and is the location for many films and TV shows. Within walking distance of both Central Park and the East River, you will have access to a multitude of places to visit. Museum Mile runs along 5th Avenue, and starts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, up past the Guggenheim and National Academy Museum, and ends at El Museo del Barrio and the Museum for African Art. The Luxury shops of Madison Avenue are 4 blocks away. Second Avenue has a great assortment of restaurants and bars, with cuisines from around the world. Brandy's is a well known local piano bar which features Broadway singers in a cozy neighborhood environment.

Getting to my home

Our home is easily accessible from JFK or LaGuardia Airports via cab. From JFK via public transportation (warning: I don't recommend this for non-New Yorkers, but here it is if you are adventurous): - AirTrain to Jamaica Station - Walk a block to Sutphin Blvd - Archer Av - JFK Airport Subway Station, Jamaica Center - Take F to Forest Hills-71 Av - Take the E (inbound) toward Lexington Av/63 St -Take the Q to 96th Street (north) -Exit at the northern most exit, walk left (west) and the building will be on your left, a half block up the street.

Nearest airport

LaGuardia (domestic flights)' JFK (international flights) Newark Liberty (international flights). We do not recommend Newark because it's on the opposite of town and traffic can be really bad. There's a train, but then it's cumbersome to get to the apartment with bags when you don't know where you're going.

Getting around

Access via subway is easy, with the 96th Street '6" station a block away. You are a few stops from Grand Central Station and Union Square (on 14th St). The new "Q" subway station is half block away and takes you to 57th Street and all the shops of Fifth Avenue, Times Square and the Broadway theaters and Harold Square, home of the world-famous Macy's Department Store. In addition, there is an Express Bus (Select Bus Service) which runs down 2nd Avenue.
