General overview

Davis is a wonderful college town with lots of interesting things to do, and our house is a quiet oasis on the west side of town, just a stone's throw from the UC Davis campus. Wonderful neighborhood full of kids and kind neighbors, parks, trees, bike paths, and our swimming pool and hot tub provide cooling refreshment in the winter and warm us up in the winter. Our home is a kids playground with trampoline, treehouse, slack line, lawn, fruit trees, playhouse, art supplies, and lots of other things to keep them active and entertained.

Guest access

This is a one-storey house with wide hallways and large rooms. The front door has a threshhold to go over, but no steps. There is a concrete walkway from the driveway to the front door. There is a small step out the back door to the concrete patio and grassy yard. There is a gated fence around the pool.

Notes

We have pets! We have 3 chickens, which require minimal care. We do also have a dog, but we hope to find alternative arrangements for her during exchanges, unless you are a dog-loving family and would enjoy having our border collie Tessa as a companion during your stay. We also love bringing her along if she is welcome. We are happy to discuss all of this with you and make sure that the arrangements are suitable and not overwhelming during your stay!

Neighbourhood

This is a quiet residential family friendly neighborhood very close to the University. Wide, tree-lined streets and lots of parks within walking and biking distance.

Getting to my home

Davis is very accessible! For international travellers flying into SFO, you can easily reach Davis by taking BART (subway) from the airport to Richmond station, then taking Amtrak/Capitol Corridor train to Davis, then a quick taxi to our house. There is also the Davis Airporter for door to door shuttles. Sacramento Airport is the closest airport, great for domestic travellers. The Davis Airporter is the best way to get from there to our house if you aren't renting a car.

Nearest airport

Sacramento International - 40min by car San Francisco International - 1.5-2 hours by car, 2+ hours by public transit Oakland International - 1.5-2hours by car or public transit

Getting around

Davis is known for its amazing bike path network! It's an easy 10-min bike ride to downtown, 98% on bike paths through the campus - all flat and easy cycling. We have lots of bicycles available for you to use. You can access pretty much everything you need by bicycle - groceries, restaurants, cafe's, theaters. And we're only a 15-min walk from the heart of UC Davis. There is also a very convenient train station right in downtown making trips to the Bay Area (~1.5 hrs) very easy and traffic-free! Both trains and buses can get you to Sacramento as well (~30-40min). If you wish, we can also make a car available for longer trips.
