General overview
The Vista Sea Lodge is our family’s year round retreat. With our kids grown it is mostly us now (with friends). We use the home year round and made it our primary home in 2022. It is a great place to curl up by the fire with a book, watch eagles and whales or porpoises through the wildlife scope or kayak on Puget Sound. We have a second home in Sonoma County California #10855 so we can often be flexible with dates. https://peoplelikeus.world/properties/10855
There is one nearby house, otherwise you are surrounded by forest and sea. We are is in a rural area (15 min to nearest small town, 20-25 minute to larger small town). If your dream is to stay in a house with the feel of a National Park lodge- that is the ambience (but with privacy).
The space
Master bedroom with California king bed (183cm) and full bath on main level and two bedrooms upstairs. Upstairs bedroom 2 with a king bed (193 cm) and a twin bed under the eaves that is perfect for a child. There is also a third bedroom with a full bed (135cm) and a queen bed (153cm). There is also another full bath upstairs. We have a double inflatable bed and a pack and play for your use as well. The main living room downstairs is open plan to dining area and kitchen with a wood burning stove (fireplace). Laundry room is on main floor with washer/dryer. There is a wrap around covered deck on three sides of the house. Upstairs there is also an open loft with sectional and TV and a small desk. There is a second smaller covered upper deck off of the upstairs loft TV room with two chairs and amazing views- perfect for morning coffee. Stairs to pebble and stone beach for kayak or paddle board access (we have both). There is a flight of steep stairs to access beach.
NOTE STAIRS LOST JAN 2022 in storm in process of engineering and permitting to replace and we can suggest alternative access by a trail through the woods.
We have a smart home with Alexa devices. We also have exterior security cameras operating 24/7.
Guest access
3 steps down from parking area to access main level with master suite on main level. Two story home. Flight of rather steep stairs to beach.
Note, all amenities other than TV are on main level, so if you can manage three steps down, the home is accessible to those using a cane or walker.
Notes
House is approximately 2400sq feet or 220sq meters
We have Wifi over cellular, so it is NOT unlimited speed/ downloading. Fiber is coming but likely a year out.
NOTE- storm and high tide with large debris destroyed our beach stairs in Jan 2022. We are working with engineering and permitting to replace but beach access stairs are currently gone!

Neighbourhood
One neighboring home in sight, otherwise forest and water (saltwater front on south Puget sound). We are about 3miles by car from a marina with boat launch and moorage, across the water directly is another marina and a state park (1/2 mile). There us abundant wildlife - we occasionally even get orcas, but more commonly porpoise, seals, deer, eagles and such. It is about a 15 minute drive to a large lake (Mason Lake) and 30 minutes to Hood Canal and Alderbrook resort if you long for some fine dining or spa services. Gig Harbor and Olympia are each about a 45 minute drive. Also, you can drive about 45 minutes to Bremerton where a ferry takes vehicles and passengers directly to Seattle - a great way to get there that is an adventure in itself.
Getting to my home
Car is required - no public transit.
Nearest airport
Closest airport is Sea-Tac (SEA- between Seattle and Tacoma) Is about 1hr 40mm drive from house.
Getting around
We are on the Olympic Peninsula with access to Olympic National Park about 45 minutes and many beautiful state parks for hiking and recreation. It is 8 miles to closest town (Allyn with small grocery market, gas station, 2 coffee shops, 2 restaurants, donut shop, and burger stand). We are between two larger small towns Belfair (15 miles - 20 min) and Shelton (20 mile 25-30 min) Gig Harbor is 45 mn and Tacoma 1 hr. Seattle about a 2 hr drive and Portland OR a bit farther.

Need information on the Pacific Northwest? Happy to help!
The cabin at Grapeview is really a very magical place. The setting is so beautiful with the water and nature all around you!
And the house is beyond comfortable-Stephanie and Scott have really thought through all the details that make a perfect exchange, including all the information you could want about exploring the area.
We had such a wonderful time exploring the Hood Canal and going a little bit further afield to Port Orchard and Poulsbo. But we always looked forward to just coming back to their home and enjoying the comfort and peace there. Thanks to both of you for this very special exchange!
I am so glad you and your brother/sister in law enjoyed their stay. Thank you for the Poulsbo shopping suggestions. We will have to get up there to check it out soon. You are welcome back anytime!
Stephanie's place in Grapeview, Washington is just so lovely. A log cabin (ok it's really luxury accommodation) right on the Puget Sound. My wife and I had such a good time there. So cozy, peaceful, and rejuvenating. The beds are comfortable, the furnishings are lovely, the surroundings are beautiful. I have no suggestions to make this place better. It was incredible.
The Olympic Peninsula in Washington State is incredibly beautiful. I highly recommend Stephanie's home if you're considering Washington State, USA!
For us, it's always the experiences of the house exchange that we remember the most. We really enjoyed using the sea kayaks: the water was calm, there were lots of things to see in the water (seals, jellyfish etc) and out of the water (bald eagles!). We felt ourselves very lucky to be enjoying dinner on the deck and watching a deer and her young feeding in the yard. Picking blueberries all around the property, watching the weather change the beautiful scenery from the house porch, the beautiful wooded driveway. And I really appreciated Stephanie's willingness to let us come a few days early, as bad weather meant we needed to reschedule flights. Thank you once again to Stephanie and Scott!
What can we say about our exchange in Stephanie and Scott's house in Grapeview : the weather was cloudy all week, the peaks of the Olympic NP remained mysterious... But we had a really great week because the house is fantastic!
Ideally located on the edge of the Puget Sound, the house has the charm of wooden cabin with all the modern comforts and even more. We alternated hiking in the mountains (thanks for the loan of their comfortable car) and resting in the house (reading, music, puzzles, board games, hot tub...) or under the porch admiring the view.
A big thank you to Stephanie and Scott !! (also for the welcome gifts)
Stephanie and Scott are the most amazing people with their home in Grapeview Washington being a peaceful respite on Puget sound that has the comfort of a fine hotel. It is a cool and amazing experience to stay in a log cabin that is really a fabulous getaway with every beautiful detail you can imagine, from comfy chairs indoors and out, to a hot tub overlooking the water, to a lovely table set to enjoy a yummy meal prepared in their well appointed kitchen . Stephanie and Scott baked amazing blueberry muffins for us and left a welcome gift as well. We feel so lucky to have the opportunity to stay in their beautiful home and explore Puget Sound, and the historic towns that are in close proximity to Grapeview.
If you have a chance to connect with Scott and Stephanie, consider yourself very lucky indeed. They are the most wonderful hosts and as guests , they leave my home better than they find it, With Scott and Stephanie's homes, you will have unforgettable experiences and tender loving care. They are super neat and responsible and exude refinement.
Stephanie and Scott stayed in our apartment for a week.
We had the pleasure to meet them and immediately felt at ease as with long-time friends.
This is the magic of PLU, to make beautiful home exchanges but above all to meet beautiful people !
Stephanie and Scott are now our new friends and we are sure that we will stay in touch and that we will meet again soon, in Alsace or elsewhere.
After have exchanged last September, we were finally able to meet Stephanie and Scott.
We were more than delighted to welcome them in hospitality (but it was all too short-lived).
We will remember the excellent times we shared during dinners, as well as our visits to the upper Maurienne valley, Val d'Isère and Chambéry.
See you soon guys !
Stephanie and Scott stayed with us for 2 nights during their trip through Europe and they were wonderful house guests. We enjoyed getting to know them; they are both kind, knowledgeable and fun to spend time with. They were very respectful of our home and left everything spotless. I look forward to seeing them again during our Oregon exchange or hopefully visiting them in their home in California. Stephanie and Scott are the perfect PLU exchangers and you can’t get any better than that!
Stephanie and Scott stayed in our home for a Globe. They were great! I only have nice things to say about their stay. Our home was left spotless. And we had the feeling that they really enjoyed their stay. They are world travellers that have visited great homes and places - but treated our home as precious as they woul have treated any castle! :-) They relly wanted to experience our little part of this world. They went around Malmö on our bikes, enjoyed local streetfood, had dinner with our neighbours and travelled the region with public transport. As a host there is nothing better than having gusets that really apperciate whats local and what you yourself like about your home and your neighbourhood. And Stephanie and Scott did just that. I can relly, relly recommend them as exchangepartners - and though we never met IRL it feels like we have become friends! I am looking forward to the chance to meet them next summer when they return to Scandinavia. (And hopefully in California one day)
Theresia - we loved your home and your neighbors and your neighborhood! Thank you for sharing this opportunity with us - I hope exchangers listen to exchange homeowners’ advice. There is so much more to experience that way! Hope to meet you IRL soon!
Scott and Stéphanie have become our visiting friends at this point and we were so glad it was a hospitality visit as we had a chance to catch up during the visit
They are engaging , intelligent, kind and friendly. Scott and Stéphanie are people I love having in my home . They are completely trustworthy and responsible and also immaculate. Can’t wait to see them next time . We feel lucky for plu to have brought Scott and Stéphanie into our lives .
Stephanie, her husband and the rest of her family were great guests. Communication was always easy, and our home was spotless when we returned. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Portugal, Stephanie!
It was really a treat to host Stephanie and Scott! We had met previously at a summer PLU event but hadn't really had the opportunity to get to know them, so hosting them overnight allowed us to get to know each others and swap some travel stories. They love France so it was so fun to have them help us remember how special France is! And they got me energized for future exchanges!
We look forward to seeing their home in Grapeview WA later this spring and look forward to exchanging there with French visitors. But most of all, we look forward to getting to know Stephanie and Scott better as friends-an extra special part of PLU!
We had been hosted by Stephanie and Scott in their California home and we had the pleasure of hosting them in our house at the lake, for a non simultaneous exchange.
They were perfect guests and left the house in excellent conditions, together with several nice presents that we loved very much and that we will treasure forever to remind us of this special exchange.
We met for an aperitivo and, in the very moment they left, we were already missing them. Stephanie and Scott, you will be always welcome here and we hope to meet you again!
We were delighted to welcome Stephanie, Scott, Cecile & Valentin to our home.
Very good communication and kindness. They even prepared the house for the following exchangers.
We are looking forward to (finally) meeting the wonderful people Stephanie and Scott, very soon we hope !
Scott and Stephanie are wonderful people that we have come to adore since we have had the great pleasure to spend time with them on various exchanges and visits.
Scott and Stephanie think of logistics , details and comfort and do so many little (like homemade blueberry muffins and welcome gifts, wine and groceries for our arrival) and big things (like picking us up in Seattle with their home directions programmed into the gps to make the car exchange seamless). They make one feel treasured and welcome. We have recently visited the Sea Lodge in Grapeview Washington and it was restful , beautiful, and very comfortable. Stephanie and Scott have great taste and the lodge was testimony to that skill. We loved the views and scenery and the close proximity to world class parks , hiking, and some of the most beautiful harbors (Gig Harbor stands out) one can see. We came back to rest our feet and relax with a good book at the home spa (always programmed to be 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This couple represents everything admirable.
Stephanie and Scott are amazing guests and we were fortunate enough to meet them . My house was lovingly kept and it was spotlessly clean and beautiful when I returned . Scott adjusted a cabinet door that he noticed wasn’t lining up quite properly ( because he is brilliant and finds these things easy ) and this was such a welcome surprise. Stephanie and Scott are an interesting, engaging couple with many talents and we felt so great having them at the house . We would actually rather they be in our home if we are away going forward because we came home and met the most reliable warm and interesting couple who truly care . Anyone exchanging with Stephanie and Scott would be very lucky .
We were lucky enough to meet Carey and Peter when they arrived and they are truly kind and thoughtful exchangers. They took excellent care of our home and left it just as they found it for our return. We were delighted that they were able to enjoy our home and area and look forward to visiting them in New Zealand in a few months. You can trust Carey and Peter with your home - they are welcome back anytime!
I previously reviewed explaining what wonderful guests Helene and Jacques are. Because we did a non-sim and a globe exchange we technically had two exchanges- you can rest assured that Helene and Jacques will leave your home immaculate and even better than they found it. They are wonderful people so if you have the opportunity to meet them take it!
Helene and Jacques left our house immaculate. In fact, I am sure it was even cleaner than they found it. They were wonderful communicators - and notified us about a closet light that was not working and tried to fix it for us. Jacques, Helene and Alexine are simply model guests. You know your home will be treated with great care and they were even willing to help my neighbor by retrieving some packages when her return was delayed. WE met them in person in Strasbourg and again in San Francisco to have dinner with them before they left. Jacques and Helene left us a lovely gift (and some wine) to remember them by. Thank you so much and you are welcome back any time!
We stayed in Helene and Jacques apartment -- which is fabulous -- but had dinner with them at this home (their primary residence). It is a beautifully restored historic home with a beautiful terrace and garden. The interior has everything you would need and is beautifully decorated. IT is in a very nice neighborhood and the public transit to Strasbourg is right there. You will love staying with Helene and Jacques.
Lionnel and Sandrine are simply marvelous hosts. Not only did Sandrine prépare amazing dinners for us, Lionnel took the day off of work to personally guide us on an amazing tour of the alps. While our planned hike was clouded over. Instead we explored mountain villages and the Val d’Isere area. We really hope to guide them around Mount Ranier when they return to Washington. Thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality in your very thoughtfully appointed home.
Vicki and Antonette graciously hosted us for a hospitality stay so we could experience the real Netherlands after Amsterdam. The home is just amazing - filled with beautiful art and beautiful people. It’s hard to know where to begin - the stunning gardens? The baby fledgling owls Antonette took us to see right next door? The amazing meals? The help with planning our day trips from Amsterdam? The private tour at of a local cheesemaking farm? I will leave you with this: you could not meet more generous and thoughtful people. We have new friends and we cannot wait to see them again and hope to host them soon when they can come to our area.
Thank you again Vicki and Antonette
Helle and Flemming were great communicators and left our house immaculate. I was a little worried because I would not be home before our next exchangers arrived, but of course as promised Helle left everything perfect for them. Helle and her family are welcome back anytime and we really look forward to our stay with them next summer in Denmark.
Our stay at Theresia and Joakim’s home was one of our best exchanges. We were very sad to leave. In a green suburb of Malmö close to a major train station, you have access to everything and are able to come home to a quiet peaceful neighborhood away from all the noise and tourism. My favorite part of each day was coffee at the dining table looking out onto the garden.
Theresia and Joakim were so helpful, left us some treats and basic foods to ensure we could gave breakfast without shopping since we arrived on Sunday evening.
Theresia and Joakim left us bikes set up for our heights and we took several bike rides and it is 7 minutes to the train station on a bike (22min walk) where you can be in Copenhagen in about 30 minutes, Malmo in 5-10mn. Theresia was able to share her Swedish Metro passes with us and I wish we had stayed longer to see more of Sweden. Thank you so much for the wonderful stay!
Jeanne and her family were wonderful guests. We could not even tell they had been here (except for the french treats they left for us to enjoy). Jeanne is a great communicator, and gave us some new ideas about places to recommend to visitors. You can trust Jeanne to take excellent care of your home and leave it as nice (or even nicer) than she found it. We hope to have the opportunity to see Jeanne and Antoine again in Seattle or perhaps in France next year.
Xenia and Hairo (and her daughter Veronica) were wonderful guests. They left our home immaculate and we are so glad we were able to meet them when they arrived. They even left us a lovely plant as a parting gift. We hope to see them again in Costa Rica one day!
We cant say enough good things about Michelle and Marc. If you are lucky enough to have an exchange opportunity with them you should jump on it! This was a short hospitality stay, and as usual the home was immaculate, comfortable beds and just the nicest location for visiting our daughter in Salem (or visiting Boston or the North Shore towns). Michelle greeted us with an Easter Basket full of treats and made banana bread for our breakfast! We were lucky enough to visit with them a couple of nights during the stay. They were working long hours and we were out visiting, so I can only hope to host them again soon to return the hospitality and visit. xoxo Stephanie and Scott
We stayed a week in Vicki’s home- it is hard to know what to say beyond all of the other rave reviews. We were joined by our daughter, son-in-law and our two grandchildren ages 2 and 6. The baths and bedrooms are all very spacious and there is a huge eat-in kitchen. It is a quiet flat, despite its urban setting. We loved the coffee shop across the street - our coffees and pastries for the two of us less than the price of one coffee at Starbucks. Vicki was extremely helpful with suggestions for various outings and her home is spotless. We enjoyed Porto and the medieval town of Guimaraes. We had a car (always parking available) but the transit options are so close you fo not need one. I highly recommend an exchange with Vicki.
Allen and his wife were great guests. You can trust them to be great exchangers. Allen is a Stellar communicator, which is much appreciated—and they took great care of our home. We returned to a clean home, with eggs and milk in the fridge for us (we returned very late) and our bed made up, which was so thoughtful of them! We hope to stay with them for a future Seattle trip.
You can count on Allen and Malini to be wonderful guests. They even left us a lovely gift 💝
Thank you both - Stephanie and Scott
This was a hospitality stay with Jeanne and Antoine, who graciously hosted us to save us 4 hours round trip driving to return to Seattle the following day for the PLU meetup. We really enjoyed getting to know Jeanne and Antoine better and hearing their travel history was amazing. Their condo is well arranged with all you need for a stay. Jeanne told me "it's clean but not Martha Stewart clean." which made me laugh, because it was spotless (I can't imagine what Martha Stewart level of clean must involve and I am pretty much on the extremely clean end of the spectrum!)
Because it was winter we did not explore the pool areas, but the property is treed and peaceful, although just blocks away from main transportation routes.
We look forward to hosting Jeanne and Antoine later this year and highly recommend them as guests, hosts or exchange mentors. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.
Liz and her friends were model guests. She communicated with us before and during the exchange and left our home exactly as she found it. We were glad they had a great stay and appreciated the lovely treats and thoughtful note they left for us.
Our stay at Cristina’s home was amazing. The views, the lake and its surroundings were spectacular. We visited Brescia, Bergamo, and did a variety of day trips to wander in small villages near the lake and a few spectacular hikes nearby. A highlight was taking the ferry to Monte Isola and riding bikes around the island, ending up at a restaurant Cristina recommended for lunch right on the water. Best of all was meeting Cristina and Fabio for an aperitif! They left us so much food and snacks at the house that we could not finish it all! After visiting a couple of spots Cristina recommended they were so good that we read her guide every night to plan the next day’s activities.
The house was perfect for two couples (or a family with kids as there is a bunk bed room as well). Cristina has completely remodeled an old village house and it is beautiful with many lovely features and a balcony on every floor!!! Fonteno is spectacular and we hope to go back again one day.
Darci and her family were excellent guests, and —as the third in a series of back to back exchanges — left our house every bit as clean as we left it! Darci was a good communicator and genuinely a pleasure to work with. We are looking forward to visiting Darci's home in New Zealand next year - she left us a lovely Towel with NZ images (and sheep) to pique our interest! We can wholeheartedly recommend Darci and Andrew as exchange guests.
Shelly was a first time exchanger, and we had back to back exchanges scheduled so I probably scared her about cleaning up! Shelly left our home immaculate for the next exchangers and we look for ward to visiting Shelly’s home in Chattanooga in 2023. Don’t hesitate to welcome Shelly to your home as she was a friendly and considerate guest.
Lionnel and Sandrine are truly PLU Ambassadors. You can rest assured your home and car will be well taken care of and as you left them. Please come again anytime!
Lionnel was a fabulous communicator and continues to provide me with helpful feedback about our home and France. He used our car and washed it and he and Sandrine also left our home in pristine condition. We feel lucky to have exchanged with Lionnel and hope to do so again — or welcome them in a hospitality stay if they return to our area. We had a universal power supply failure and Lionnel even helped us replace the battery and has many talents beyond his warm and hospitable nature.
I previously reviewed our stay in Lionnel’s home and can only repeat how wonderful it was for our group of two couples. Merci encore Lionnel and Sandrine.
Thanks. It was a pleasure to welcome you in our home.
Lionnel’s home is beautifully restored and fitted out. While we were out exploring during the day, we enjoyed relaxing in the back yard with apéros on the picnic table. Did I mention that he is adjacent to a vineyard (with excellent Savoie wines a short walk around the corner)? Also your view of the mountains and the château de Miolans is — in a word— spectacular!
You can drive an hour in any direction and be in a different mountain region, all with amazing hiking. We ate at some great restaurants including an amazing meal at Le Clocher. However, with Lionnel’s kitchen you do not need to go out. Another favorite meal was making Raclette with Lionnel’s electric raclette pan.
Finally, Lionnel and Sandrine are so welcoming. They left us amazing local specialties and wine — and homemade jam and duck rillettes!!! Lionnel was a great communicator and the explanations on how to use things (the sauna, spa and Sonos music system) were great. We truly hope to be able to return and meet them in person. Thank you for trusting us with your beautiful home! ❤️
Thank you very much for your comment and we are more than delighted that you enjoyed your stay in our home !
We are waiting to meet you in person soon as possible. Thanks again.
Once again Marc and Michelle were five star guests. We have had them stay at both of our homes now and they left them in immaculate condition. Michelle even sends photos to reassure you that all is in order. We truly hope they can exchange again in the future and that we will see them in Swampscott. They are trustworthy and caring guests (and great hosts).
Cristina and her family were dream guests. Great communication and she cared for our home as if it were her own. I am fairly certain when we returned it was cleaner than when I left -- and I thought I left it extremely clean. We are looking forward to our stay at Cristina's in October and we so appreciated the thoughtful note and gifts she left for us. I now have a tea towel to show me the area where we are going to stay soon! You will be lucky if you have Cristina as a guest and I only wish we had been able to meet her in person to welcome her but I feel like I have made a friend from our facetime and texts. We are hoping to meet her for an aperetivo next month in Italy when we stay at her home. Grazie mille Cristina!
We just returned after Michelle and Marc's stay to a sparkling clean home, dinner in the fridge and fresh bread in the freezer from a local bakery. We picked up Michelle and Marc and had the pleasure of spending the day with them before we left. They are so nice, great fun and truly epitomize the spirit of PLU. We look forward to more exchanges with Michelle and Marc and will welcome them back anytime! You will feel lucky if you have the opportunity to exchange with these two.
In a word- spectacular. Beautifully decorated, great views and the nicest hosts. Home is immaculate and we are so glad to have new friends in Michelle and Marc!
Joan and her family were wonderful guests. This was the first exchange group at our home, so Joan dealt with all of my concerns with aplomb. She was a great communicator and left our home exactly as she found it. Joan and her family are welcome back anytime and you couldn’t ask for a nicer more trustworthy exchange partner. She left us a wonderful bottle of New Zealand wine and chocolates- it was not at all necessary but shows how thoughtful Joan is. I hope to meet her ( and maybe exchange with her if dates align) when we go to New Zealand next year!
Michelle’s home is absolutely beautiful, with amazing views, comfortable beds and everything immaculate. The photos are great, but they do not do this lovely home justice. We stayed over Christmas and hosted dinner for my daughter and her family who live nearby. The kitchen is a chef’s dream, so if you like to cook you will be in heaven - and sea views while you work! We loved sitting in the sunroom watching the water and city lights. The bed was so comfortable - even for my husband who is 6’4”. Everything has been completely renovated recently and done with great thought and taste. You are within a 15 minute drive of quintessential New England historic towns, beaches and other sites — and a short drive into Boston. The best part was we were able to have dinner with Michelle and Marc and make new friends - they are so warm and welcoming. We hope to exchange again with them and look forward to having them at our home in a few months.
Thank you so much Stephanie and Scott! You are wonderful to know and we are still glowing from our time in Santa Rosa. You are perfect guests and hosts!! And I will never forget coming home to Scott adjusting/ fixing my kitchen cabinet for us-that was the cherry on top!
Active retirees with an interest in seeing beautiful scenery, fascinating history, and new-to-us cultures.
