New functionality to help you find your fellow PLU's

Hi PLU's,

Shortly I will introduce functionality in the Feed to allow you to tag your fellow members, like this: @drew seitam.

In order to work, we need to start using surnames on the site. There are just too many similar first names for this to work otherwise.

This will also allow us to do a couple of other things:

  1. Search for people by first name and surname
  2. Display surnames on member profile cards

Privacy and security are paramount at PLU.

Surnames will be visible only to Premium members. Only Premium members will be able to search with them.

This is also an optional feature. If you don't want your surname to appear on the site, you can do one of two things:

  1. Change your surname to an initial or a location (e.g. Paris). Either of these will still give you a (likely) unique identity in the system and allow people to find you.

  2. Go to your member profile and tick the box under privacy to hide your surname. If you do this, only your first name will be displayed and used for searches. It does mean that, like now, you may be more difficult to find (unless, like me, you have an unusual name!) 🤣

The flag to hide your surname is available now. The functionality to display surnames and search with them will be here in about a week.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
