Introducing PLU Picks

Home exchanging, at its best, isn't really about browsing.

It's about that moment when you come across a home and think, "Oh, that's the one." The place, the people, the details all line up — and suddenly a trip starts to feel possible.

PLU Picks is our way of bringing more of those moments to you.

What PLU Picks is

PLU Picks are personalised home recommendations, chosen just for you.

They're drawn from what you've told us — your desired destinations, your saved searches, your home, your preferences — and matched against the homes (and members) in our Community who look like a genuinely good fit for how you like to travel.

We won't go into the inner workings here (there's a fair bit going on behind the scenes), but the short version is: the more we know about what you're looking for, the better your Picks get.

How you'll hear about your Picks

When we find a new Pick for you, we'll let you know straight away by email — that's the default, because a great match is the kind of thing you'd probably like to hear about sooner rather than later.

You can change that frequency any time in your email settings. PLU Picks notifications can be set to immediate, a daily digest, a weekly digest, or turned off entirely — whichever suits you best.

You can also find your Picks any time from the Homes menu — just look for PLU Picks. You can even search for homes belonging to members who have your home as a Pick. And when you're running your own searches in the usual way, we'll badge any homes that are Picks for you, so they stand out in the results.

Gold Picks: when it's mutual

G068JtltwCNq9ux1113d54vKZJvYEH1lMzsu8UCo.jpg

Every now and then something lovely happens: a home is a Pick for you, and your home is a Pick for them. When that happens, we call it a Gold PLU Pick — and it's worth paying attention to. It means the match works both ways, which is often the strongest signal you'll get that a conversation is worth starting.

When a Pick is great for you, but not quite reciprocal

Sometimes a home is a wonderful match for what you're looking for, but — for whatever reason — your home or your details might not be quite right for them. Maybe the travelling party sizes don't line up, or the house rules don't quite meet in the middle.

In those cases, we'll still surface the Pick, but we'll flag it as one that might suit a non-reciprocal exchange — a hosted stay, a Pluto exchange, or a future exchange where the timing works differently. A good match is still a good match; it just might take a slightly different shape.

Why this Pick? (And tell us how we're doing)

On every Pick, we'll tell you why we think it's a good match. It might be the location, a shared approach to hosting, the style of home, the dates lining up — whatever it is, we'll be upfront about our reasoning.

And then we'd love your feedback.

👍 Thumbs Up if we got it right. It's the quickest way to tell us "more like this, please."
👎 Thumbs Down if we missed the mark — and if you've got a moment, tell us why. It helps enormously.

And if we've really got it wrong — if a Pick is based on something that just isn't relevant to you anymore — a Thumbs Down will also give you the option to clear out any other Picks that came from the same signal. No sense wading through a stack of similar ones if the original wasn't right.

Every piece of feedback goes back into making your future Picks better. This is a feature that genuinely improves the more you use it.

And it'll keep getting better

We've been testing PLU Picks quietly with a group of members for the past four months, and it's worked well enough that we're ready to share it with the whole Community.

That said — some Picks will be brilliant, and some will be closer to "interesting, but not quite." That's part of the process, and every thumbs up or thumbs down you give us makes the next one better.

We think you'll enjoy it. We think it'll open up exchanges you might never have found through searching alone.

And we'd love to hear what you think as you start getting your own Picks coming through.

Have a look around — your first Picks may already be waiting for you. 🏡

The little 👍👎 buttons are very small on the “pick” member’s profile and it’s easy to accidentally hit the wrong one. I’ve given 👍 in error, is there a way to change it? Or maybe make them a bit bigger?

I can not find my favourites that I have saved over the last couple of years? Also not able to find desired destinations - sorry if I sound a bit thick here 🤦‍♀️

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Hi Joanna, Favourites are accessed from the little 🩵 button below the search bar. Desired Destinations are accessed from the Exchanging menu. Always start a support conversation (from the Help menu) if you're looking for something. Our team is always here and ready to help. 🙂

It is a great idea, however, I would like to change/add to my desired places to travel and not sure how I can update this. I see most of my picks were based in France or County Clare, Ireland. Thank you!

We need signals from you about what you're looking for: Desired Destinations, Default Filters, Saved Searches, or even just searching for something - they all give us ideas about what you're looking for. 🙂

Exciting!

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Thanks Vanessa. For your ones which are referencing an old search, when you 👎 one of them, there's a box there to remove all Picks from the same signal - you can remove them all in one go. 🙂

Brilliant ! A very interesting new feature to help us in our researches. Thumbs up ;-)

Hi Drew, This sounds lovely. Unfortunately, the 1st pick I checked was for "cats lovers" and I have specified no cats, no dogs due to allergy...so bad pick. So this one is 👎. I will check the other picks of course. One is already👍

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Thanks Laura. To make your Picks "cat free", add a default filter to your saved searches - that tells us that you want all your Picks cat-free.

AlisonApr 27, 2026

Some interesting picks in my list, including a very interesting gold one and at least one already in my favourites. There were also a few in my own city (Edinburgh) and some towns very close by. I’ve given a 👎 to the ones that were a miss.

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Thanks for the feedback, Alison - that will help a lot. Also, if you haven't already, 👍 the ones that are good Picks as that gives us good information too. 🙂

Madelon
MadelonApr 27, 2026

Hi Drew, this is great. Already a lot of nice picks I can see. But how and where can I see if there are any gold picks or whether anyone got our home as a pick? Thanks!

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Hi Madelon, both of those are under the filters. Go to Homes on the menu and then All homes or any selection you like. Click Filters, and you'll see those buttons at the top of the Filters list. 🙂

Malin
MalinApr 27, 2026

What a great idea! I tried it straight away but cannot see any homes at all - no filter and with filter (tried both). It is just a map an 0 homes…..

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Hi Malin, I'll look into it as you should have some. The strongest signals we get are from Desired Destinations and Saved Searches and you don't have either of those, but we should still be able to pick up on what you're looking at on the site.

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Thank you for the feedback. I've made a change and your Picks have been updated. Try again! 🙂

You are amazing! PLU AI! I do wonder if it's possible not to receive any PLU Picks & would that be disappointing to some members?

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

That's very kind of you. Our whole team is always trying to do the best we possibly can for our members. It is possible, and I know that would be disappointing but the system works off what we know about our members (your member and home profile) combined with what you're searching for (searches and Desired Destinations) among other things. The best way to ensure that there are Picks is to save your Desired Destinations and searches, then the system will learn what you want.

Cari
CariApr 27, 2026

Great idea! This is what the site needs for sure!

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Thanks, Cari. I hope you find it useful. Please give us your feedback as you start to use it. 🙂

Ray
RayApr 27, 2026

Love the idea Drew. Are we able to select options for the AI to search activities etc (can see locations is already working), things like ocean front or surfing beaches etc? Will the extra AI slow down the server side much, have been finding the web page loading frustratingly slow the last 6 months especially map searching etc?

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Hi Ray, it works based on what you've told us and also what you're looking for on the website. If you search for something, particularly if you save the search, that's a strong signal to the system about what you're looking for. It will take all of those 150+ filters into account when producing Picks for you. The Picks process is all offline and won't affect the speed of the server. We're aware, though, that there are some performance issues and, now that Picks is released, that will be a focus for the next few weeks in particular.

Patsy and Bill
Patsy and BillApr 27, 2026

Love this! It's already helped me to focus in on what I'm really looking for in the next few years of exchanges.

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

That's great, and thank you for the feedback you've already provided too. We'll be analysing that and doing more releases to improve Picks over the coming days and weeks.

PLU dating app!

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

That's funny, because I did think about exactly that and I did a lot of research into dating algorithms in doing this. It's different, but not so different that we can't learn a lot from those. "Tinder for home exchanging"? 😂

Drew, this idea is the most promising product of AI (Australian Intelligence) so far! We will definitely be trying PLU Picks.. Thanks! Brent and Cheryl.

Drew

Thanks Fiona! Give us feedback on your Picks too - the system will only get better as we get your feedback. 🙂

Lisa
LisaApr 26, 2026

Sounds interesting! Looking forward to picks! If I do a thumbs down, will I not see this profile in future search’s?

Drew
DrewApr 27, 2026

Hi Lisa, great question. Thumbs down does two things: it tells us that we didn't provide a good Pick so we can improve the system (and, if you write why, we'll read it), and it removes it from your Picks. It doesn't remove it from your searches - just from your Picks - and if there are other similar Picks, you also get the option to remove all of them at the one time.

Lisa
LisaApr 27, 2026

Great! Because I see some picks that might not be great now, but wouldn’t want to eliminate future opportunities! Thanks for this!!

Geraldine
GeraldineApr 26, 2026

Great idea! Looking forward to my picks!

Drew
DrewApr 26, 2026

Thanks, Geraldine! Most regular users of the system will already have Picks - Just go to Homes / PLU Picks on the menu. 🙂
