Introducing Invite a Friend — Because the Best Way to Find Your People Is Through Your People

If you've been a PLU member for any length of time, there's a good chance you've already told someone about us. Maybe it came up over dinner when you were describing that week in a converted farmhouse in Burgundy, or at a friend's kitchen table when they mentioned they were looking for a way to travel that didn't cost a fortune. You said, "You should look at People Like Us," and you meant it — not because anyone asked you to, but because it genuinely felt like the right thing to share.

That's how PLU has grown since day one. Not through advertising campaigns or affiliate schemes. Through real conversations between people who trust each other.

We love that. And we want to make it easier.

Today we're launching Invite a Friend — a simple referral program that gives you a way to share PLU with the people in your life, and says thank you when they join.

How it works

The whole thing lives on your new Invite a Friend dashboard which you can find on your member menu (click your photo!).

When you visit that page, you'll find your own personal referral code — something like bright-horizon — which is yours to share however you like. Post it on your personal social media, mention it in an email, drop it into conversation. If a friend registers using your code, they'll be linked to you automatically.

You can also invite friends directly by email, right from the page. Just type in one or more email addresses and we'll send them a warm introduction — with your name, a little about PLU, and a reason to take the leap. When they click the button (or click your link), they'll be directed to a page welcoming them and introducing PLU.

What's in it for your friend

Anyone who joins PLU through your referral code or invite link gets 20% off their first year of Premium membership.

That's a meaningful discount on a meaningful decision. And it comes with the reassurance that someone they actually know and trust is already a member — which, honestly, is probably more valuable than the discount.

What's in it for you

When your friend joins and pays, you'll receive a credit equal to 20% of the standard annual price, automatically applied to your next renewal. No voucher codes, no chasing it up — it just appears in your account and takes care of itself.

There's no limit on how many friends you can invite. The credits stack. And you can track everything — who you've invited, who's registered, and who's become a full member — right from your dashboard.

A word on what this is (and what it isn't)

We know some of you have had mixed feelings about referral programs in the past — particularly the concern that we might tie rewards to Globes or Plutos. We want to be absolutely clear: this has nothing to do with Globes or Plutos.

The reward is straightforward: a cash-equivalent credit toward your next renewal. Nothing to convert, nothing to accumulate, nothing complicated. Just a small thank you applied directly to what you're already paying for.

We also want to be clear about who this is for. Invite a Friend is about sharing PLU with people you genuinely think would love it — friends, family, colleagues you'd happily stay with or have stay in your home. It's a way of formalising what many of you already do naturally, and our way of saying thank you for doing it.

A few other details worth knowing

Friends have 30 days from receiving their invite to take up the offer — and they'll get a friendly reminder if they haven't registered after a week.

If for any reason a referred member leaves or requests a refund within their first year, the associated credit is reversed. (This keeps things fair and prevents the obvious workarounds.)

Referral codes are generated automatically when you became a Premium member, so yours is already waiting for you. You can change it if you like, until you use it the first time.
