Happy New Year and hi from Europe!
Followers of our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/peoplelikeus.world/) will know this already, but Kathy and I have been travelling in Europe for the last 4 weeks. I’m writing this on a train from Paris to London right now.
We’ve been to London, Birmingham, London again, Bruges, Brussels, Amsterdam, Bergen, Paris and now we’re off back to London, then home via Jordan.
The highlights have been our two meetups in Amsterdam and Paris, and also our extra-mini meetup with Nathalie in Brussels. We had the most amazing stay with Klaas in Bergen, Netherlands. What a wonderful person! You can read my review on his listing: https://peoplelikeus.world/properties/1540.
Across the two we met around 50 PLU’s, for which we’re so grateful, particularly with the Paris strikes and winter / mid-week time slots. You’ll see loads of photos on our Facebook group and even, unbeknownst to me (and thank you Monique!), part of my little ‘thank you’ speech in Paris.
We had the most amazing time chatting with everyone about travel, exchanges and life in general. I was particularly struck by how many people already know or have even met other people that we know. Our community has been networking!
I haven’t had so much time to do work on the website while I’ve been travelling but I’ll get back into it when I return to Australia at the end of the month.
2019 was just an amazing year for People Like Us. We have over 2700 homes for you to swap with now and our community continues to grow every day with new PLU’s, creating more and more choice for all of us.
I want 2020 to be the year where PLU becomes sustainable, so that it is still here in 20 years’ time. Most of the work I’ll do in the next 2-3 months will be around this, including introducing fees. I’ll have more to say on this at the beginning of February as I work through the details but there is some discussion of it on our Blog (https://peoplelikeus.world/feed/196).
