We live within walking distance of the historic city center of the beautiful picturesque IJsselstein. IJsselstein gained city rights in 1310. You can still see the remains of its castle and city walls and visit (or even climb) the two beautiful churches build 1309 and 1885. In the center you can sit and relax at one of many cafés and restaurants.
Don't forget to visit the windmill, it is one of the largest in the Netherlands and it is still functional, watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aioXnJ0qEEw to learn more. If you love pancakes you should really buy pancake flour at the mill's shop!
IJsselstein is located in the middle of an area called the Lopikkerwaard, which is situated between the rivers Lek, the Hollandse IJssel and the Vlist. The Lopikkerwaard is a beautiful combination of natural landscape and historic towns (like Oudewater, Woerden, Schoonhoven and Gouda) where you can enjoy cycling, hiking or row a boat.
If you like running, you can run into the polder in minutes. Or take a bike, there are plenty of cycling routes nearby. Within cycling distance from our house is a small marina in the middle of the polder landscape where you can rent a boat to navigate down the river (Hollandse IJssel).
On a hot summer day you can visit one of the small beaches on the banks of the rivers IJssel and Lek. If you prefer the North Sea coast, the beaches of Noordwijk and Scheveningen can be reached within an hour.

The town center and two different supermarkets can all be reached within a 10 minute walk.
IJsselstein is located between the highways A2 and A12 from which you can travel to all of the Netherlands.
The bus and tram stop to travel directly to Utrecht Central Station or Rotterdam are only 500 meters from our house. From Utrecht you can reach the rest of the country by train.
