Algies Bay near the town of Warkworth, is in the winterless north of New Zealand. Perfect quiet and private location, only 5 minutes from good coffee in Snells Beach and 15 minutes from Warkworth for supermarkets.
A light filled house, open plan kitchen and dining area with sliding doors opening onto the completely private back deck. The Bush backdrop is humming with cicadas in summer and birds in winter. Paddocks beside the house have cows or sheep in. Our house is 5 years old and very comfortable all year round.....cool in summer due to low eaves and warm in winter with the log burner. Perfect for families or for a couple.
The main living area is the open plan kitchen and dining room. There is a dining table plus 2 sofas and it opens out onto the deck. There's a separate TV and music room off the kitchen area. There are 4 bedrooms, a family bathroom and a en suite off the master bedroom. Large garage with 2 adult bikes. 2 kayaks, (seats and life jackets), plus a trolley for easy access to beach. From our front door to toes in the water is 2 minutes and 40 seconds, down a bush path .....yes, we timed it! Glow worms to be found on the Bush path at night and the beach is safe for swimming and kayaking.
Loads of board games, puzzles and DVDs and CDs.
Plenty of organic veggies grown in season for you to help yourself.
All ground floor and level.
We think you'll love it here, so quiet and private but a good coffee shop a 5 min drive or 15 min bike ride ( 2 adult bikes, 1 youth bike, to ride). 2 kayaks that can be wheeled to the calm and safe beach, just down the private road to the water. The bush path to the beach is magical with glow worms at night and it really is 2 minutes and 40 seconds from our front door to getting your toes in the water! Surf beaches are half an hour away at Omaha or Tawahanui. A choice of Regional Parks for day trips. And Auckland only an hour and a half away for concerts, shopping and city life. Being in the winter-less north means no cold, hard frosts while the house is well insulated, with double glazing and a log burner that heats the whole house.

Algies Bay is a lovely quiet neighborhood with families, retired people and quite a few holiday homes. The beach is a great place to walk all year round. For active people, the beach walk can be extended up a series of steps to the donkey sanctuary. Matakana is a short drive away, with its fabulous Saturday morning market, movie theater and range of excellent cafes and restaurants. The famous Morris and James pottery is one side of Matakana and Charlie's ice-cream and pizza parlour the other. Both are highly recommended. Past Matakana is Omaha for a long beach walk, surf or play in the waves plus a bird sanctuary at one end. Tawhahanui Regional Park has magical beaches, snorkelling and the Ecology Walk is a beauty with a high chance of seeing taheke. If snorkelling is one of your favoured activites, Goat Island at Leigh, is superb followed by a pizza and music at The Sawmill.
Snells Beach is our nearest shopping and it has The Warehouse, The Village Kitchen for fresh fruit and veg and a few staples plus the cafe called Little and Local which serves excellent coffee and carrot cake. Easily cyclable if you push the bikes up the hill! Warkworth is a 10 to 15 min drive for supermarkets, banks etc. Auckland airport is an hour 20 mins away, while you can easily drive into the city for a day's sightseeing or an evening show. There is a large shopping mall at Albany, 45 mins away.

Auckland airport is about an hour and a half away. An easy drive to get to us and we can advise the best route. We can arrange to leave our car at the airport for you to pick up to drive to our place. Easy peasy!
Public transport to our home is possible with a shuttle bus: https://www.warkworthtaxiandbus.co.nz/warkworth-to-auckland-airport/
A car is the best option although there are regular buses to nearby places and to and from Auckland.
Car swap negotiable.

Very happy to offer advice on local activities, e.g. walks, good swimming beaches, surf as well as recommended good coffee shops and restaurants. We'd love to meet you too and you'd be most welcome to call in for a coffee, tea, beer or whatever we have to share. Do please get in touch!
Carey and Peter's home is in a really nice location, being close to a lovely beach but yet privately tucked away with views of their lovely native bush backyard and a farmyard paddock. They have done a magnificent job with making a forest in their backyard, and it was great to wake up with the sun on the trees and birds singing all around! Their house was very comfortable and had everything needed. We found so much to do in this area of NZ, and Carey's trip suggestions were extremely useful; we enjoyed all the walks and explorations that were highlighted in the suggestions. We spent 2.5 weeks at Carey and Peter's house and found so much to do.
Carey and Peter have a lovely comfortable home in a great location.
Situated in a quiet culdesac alongside a farm and bush - you would hardly know that you were in the suburbs!
A great location from which to explore - and so much on offer close by - beach and park walks, a great Farmers Market in nearby Matakana, many good restaurants and bars to visit - we had a ball
Thanks so much for your hospitality Peter and Carey - your delicious chocolate slice and wine were much appreciated
Looking forward to repaying the favour!
We have just returned from 4 nights at Carey’s house. We have three young kids and found the house was absolutely perfect. Nice quiet street. Lovely bush walk down to the beach, which the kids loved.
The area had everything we needed and lots to do without having to travel far. Great coffee, ice cream parlour, parks, winery, cafes all within short driving distance.
Our house was left spotless which was lovely to come home to. Communication throughout was excellent and we were all on the same page.
Carey and Peter were lovely guests in our home! We had good communication before, during and after the exchange so had absolutely nothing to worry about. We were greeted to their home with nice food and flowers, and they also left nice treats upon our return. Our house and car were nice and clean when we arrived back. Carey and Peter are lovely people who we will welcome to our home again in the future!
Carey & Peter are perfect guests! They left our house immaculate and even better, left some home baking for us! A very special treat! We have had great communication with them, especially as our dishwasher broke just before they arrived so I was trying to coordinate a repairman. We can’t wait to visit their home for our half of the exchange! A really great experience all round!
Thanks Carey and Peter for leaving Tui’s Rest so spic and span - pleased you enjoyed your mini staycation
Thanks also for the lovely bottle of wine - much appreciated
We would not hesitate to exchange again - thanks so much ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Andrew and Darci's house is a hand crafted masterpiece. It is a beautiful warm and comfortable home and we were in awe of the design and creativity. Spacious and light, so well insulated that even after being away 2 nights, it felt warm on our return. The house is well equipped with everything you could need in the kitchen, (we appreciated the sharp knives), the log burner is easy to use and the roomy bathrooms a treat. Caring for the animals was a pleasure; the kunekunes were such characters, the chooks gave us delicious eggs, the sheep did their thing and Amelie is a sweet and loving cat who enjoyed our laps in the evenings.
The location of Andrew and Darci's house is absolutely perfect for exploring the area and there is so much to do. Andrew gave us invaluable advice for good walks in Arthur's Pass while we loved the Banks Peninsula. Christchurch is easy to get to and again, so much choice: Quake Museum, Riccarton Bush, Canterbury Museum, Port Hills, Botanical Gardens plus some of the best coffee we've ever had in NZ.
All absolutely wonderful and we highly, highly recommend Andrew and Darci's home.
Andrew and Darci were the absolute perfect exchangers. Excellent communication prior, during and after the exchange. They left our home very clean and tidy plus a homemade wooden pot stirrer, a plant and a meal in the fridge. So kind. We feel we were on the same page for so many things which made us feel comfortable and helped us enjoy every single minute of this exchange. Thank you Andrew and Darci. I hope we keep in touch and maybe one day, we'll repeat the exchange.
Joan and Jeff's house is extremely comfortable with lovely furnishings and fittings. There is beautiful art on the walls and the house is light and spacious. The location is perfect for exploring the island. It's on a very quiet road with birdsong and waves the only back ground noise. Heaven!
There is so much choice on Waiheke. If you like walking, it's just brilliant with many well marked, very scenic, hikes. Beaches are everywhere, (obviously!) and swimming is an absolute pleasure in the crystal clear water.
We didn't manage to find time to use the kayaks or bikes or even the ping pong table but these were available.
Joan's directions and house manual told us everything we needed to know plus there were maps and information in the house. All in all, a wonderful time in a special place. Thank you Joan and Jeff.
What a cosy and comfortable bach in the beautiful small beach side community of Whiritoa. Thank you Pete and Jude for the opportunity to stay here. A perfect location, quiet and with an easy walk to both the beach and tennis courts. Lovely to have the choice of a swim in the wild waves or the calm and flat lagoon. Handy to be able to walk to the dairy for milk, etc. So very kind of you to leave a welcoming birthday card and a bottle of wine for Pete's birthday.
The one day of continuous and persistent rain which meant we stayed inside, was great fun thanks to the supply of games you offer.
All in all, a lovely long weekend in a great location.
Pete and Judy were perfect guests leaving our house clean and tidy. Pete communicated clearly and promptly prior to their visit and has sent me detailed notes about our upcoming visit to their place.
The wine we left out for them was politely declined so we now know which colour to leave them when we visit next month!! But how honest was that.....most people would have just taken it anyway!
I highly recommend Pete and Judy as exchangers.
What a wonderful exchange! Gemma's house is spacious and light with a huge deck area that was just perfect for family games, coffee and just gazing at the beautiful view of Mt Manganui. Lovely being semi-rural with sheep and cows but so close to lots of activities. Our favourites were climbing The Mount, visiting the Quarry Sculpture Park and White Water Rafting at Okere Falls.
Our house was left very clean and tidy and we had easy communication prior to and during the swap.
All in all, it was a perfect long weekend and I would thoroughly recommend Gemma as a great exchanger.
Gemma was great to communicate with prior to the exchange and she left detailed notes about feeding the lambs. A welcome bottle of wine was left for us which was kind. Gemma left our house clean and tidy. A perfect exchange partner!
