General overview

Due to family illness, we are unable to host guests at this time. However, we could possibly do a reciprocal, non-simultaneous exchange where we come to you now... and you could visit us in a later year TBD, so if you have an empty home and you want us there, let us know, we want to say yes. We must delay our active exchange searches for this space until a brighter day. Thank you for viewing our listing! This listing features the ensuite "villa" at the Oasis property (also known as a mother-in-law suite). This small indoor space and private patio is your gateway to South Florida's natural beauty. This non-smoking, pet-free, carpet-free space is well situated for one guest for longer stays and can accommodate two people for stays up to 7 nights. You need to really like each other and sleep together. We have a 5-night minimum stay since we take special care to clean and prepare the space for your visit. This villa provides privacy and all amenities for fun in the sunshine state, just bring your flip flops. This living space shares the roof and a wall with the main house but is completely separate from the main house with full-time residents. There is a dedicated parking for one vehicle. On request, we can provide beach chairs and a cooler for your beach trips. This is old-style Florida living with a window AC. Think intimate and cozy. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the Oasis property.

The space

The 400 sq. foot villa is essentially a studio apartment that will serve you well as a home base for your sunshine state activities. The open living space has a queen-sized bed, wall-mounted TV with cable, WIFI, one comfy chair with a side table, and bar seating for 2 at the counter-height bar. A sliding glass door opens to your private patio with a table and two chairs. The kitchenette has a full-size refrigerator, electric kettle, drip coffee maker, toaster oven, and microwave. If you are an Instant Pot fan like I am, just ask, and I'll loan you an 8-qt IP for your stay. This space offers a butler's kitchen and is not a full kitchen (no oven, no stove). Grocery items can be purchased at nearby Publix, Aldi, and Target grocery stores and a nice variety of specialty stores. Enjoy lush landscaping on your own large private patio. This villa has a private entrance and a full private bath. Courtesy access is provided for the shared outdoor hot/cold shower and clothes washer and dryer. There is a good chance that we will be home in the main house during your stay. The villa is very private, but if you want to talk, have a glass of wine, or ask questions about what to do in South Florida during your stay, we would love to meet you. If you want complete privacy, that’s ok, too!

Guest access

Key access to an exterior door is the main entrance for your arrival. After that, you'll probably just use the sliding glass door. A keyless locked gate gets you in from the driveway. The sliding glass door provides access to the private patio from the living space. Single level, just a small step up into the villa.

Notes

This studio apartment is separate from the main house where full-time residents live. The space is perfect for one person and very cozy for two people. The bathroom does not have a privacy door! One designated parking spot. House rules: quiet time from 10 p.m.-7 a.m. No guests or parties. This villa is perfect for quiet visitors. No smoking anywhere on the property.

Neighbourhood

Our neighborhood in South Florida is in the Boynton Beach city limits, where we can walk to our nearby shops, dining, movie theater, and shopping mall. With 50 homes in our waterfront neighborhood, we enjoy nature, birds, fishing, outdoor living, and the close proximity to retail and nature destinations. A pleasant shaded walking trail is right across the street from the Oasis. Our home "the Oasis" is on a freshwater canal on the 38-mile Chain of Lakes that connects Lake Osborne and Lake Ida and ultimately flows to the northern Everglades. The Oasis is a tropical environment right in the city, where we listen to the rustle of palm fronds, bamboo stalks, and the call of water birds from the canal. 3 miles from the beach and close to several Freedom Boat Club locations. The Oasis is in Palm Beach County, Florida, and is close to many desirable vacation destinations: - 17 miles south of W. Palm Beach - 37 miles north of Ft. Lauderdale - 55 miles north of Miami - 119 miles north of Key Largo Guests to our area have enjoyed visiting Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, and the Everglades. Some guests have even made day trips or overnight trips to the Florida Keys. - See my https://silver-lining.blog/homeexchanging/ blog for an overview of the area and tips on fun things to do - Palm Beach Cultural Destination Guide https://www.palmbeachculture.com/things-to-do/destinations - https://www.visitdelraybeach.org/plays/wakodahatchee-wetlands/ - https://www.boynton-beach.org/visitors With a fast-growing population of about 85,000, Boynton Beach has access to many natural areas and several wetlands that offer premiere bird watching. We're also close to many vibrant nearby communities with vibrant arts, music, and nightlife. What you will love in the neighborhood: Our city of Boynton Beach has a lively downtown. We are proud of our newly constructed (2020) Boynton Beach Town Square. As the site of the Kinetic Art exhibit, Boynton Beach has a keen interest in public art and green space. Boynton Beach is literally blooming and growing every day, but the city still retains a nice hometown feel. - We are one town north of historic Delray Beach, home of the Delray Beach Tennis Center, the winner of 3 All American City Awards, and Best Main Street in Florida. - We are close to the most popular accessible bird-watching destination in Palm Beach County: Wakodahatchee Wetlands Wildlife Refuge. - We are two towns north of beautiful Boca Raton. - We are also close to downtown West Palm Beach, which comes alive nightly at the waterfront, Rosemary Square, and Clematis Street. - For the gamblers and music lovers, drive out to The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, just west of Fort Lauderdale. There is so much to see and do here, from our famous beaches to the nightlife in Miami.

Getting around

As most of Florida dictates travel by car, we recommend a car for an ideal stay. You can walk to several nearby grocery stores, restaurants, shopping areas, dining, movie theater, and shopping mall. Boynton Beach is the ideal location to visit posh Palm Beach, trendy West Palm Beach, funky Lake Worth, hopping Delray Beach, and is close enough to make day trips to Ft. Lauderdale for a tour on the water taxi, the Florida Everglades National Park, or Miami Beach to gaze at hipsters. Bring your bicycle and park it on the patio, there won't be room for your bike in the cozy studio apartment.

Barrie

I mostly travel with my mom Bit (88 years young!), although sometimes other adult friends are my traveling partners. We are nature enthusiasts, boaters, walkers, birdwatchers, and museum lovers. We like to travel to many of our planet's beautiful destinations, most notably natural destinations, nature preserves, and national parks in the United States. We also enjoy cities and urban adventures where a car isn't required. We are not particular about the size or extravagance of where we stay. We do prefer homes, not rental properties. We are nonsmokers and good stewards. In our leisure time, we tour backroads and byways, visit botanical gardens, and will go to any museum from tiny to epic. Recently, we have been enjoying shorter exchanges (5-10 days) in the Southeast USA. Driving distance is what we're comfortable with these days. We have so much fun staying closer to home that we have happily completed 18 Florida exchanges since 2020 (some on another platform). We are open to simultaneous, non-simultaneous, and hospitality exchanges. We are members of Freedom Boat Club and are especially interested in traveling to destinations where we can go boating in your port of call. Do you want to come and see Boynton Beach? Consider an exchange with us. We love where we live and want to share it with others. We like to meet fellow travelers. Let us know if you are in the area, we would like to meet you and show you around and get you on a boat. Come see our garden.
