Neighbourhood

Castellar del Vallès is a village of 25000 inhabitants, 35 km from Barcelona.La house is located 5 minutes walk from the town centre where we can find the market, a supermarket, cafes, bars, restaurants and all kinds of shops and services. Within a 15 minute walk we have two large supermarkets. A 5-minute walk away is a square with children's games and picnic tables. 1 minute away (almost in front of the house) we have the bus stop that connects Castellar with Sabadell where we can take the train to go to Barcelona, Sant Cugat or Terrassa.

Nearest airport

Josep Tarradellas-El Prat Airport (Barcelona). From Terminal 1 of the airport to Castellar del Vallès it is 50 km and it takes 1 hour by car, more or less (depending on the time of day)

Getting Around

In the village we have all kinds of shops less than 15 minutes walk. The bus stop that connects to Sabadell and the trains that leave from there is in front of the house. The frequency of the bus is approximately every 12 minutes. In the surroundings of the village there are many trails for pleasant walks, some very easy and others steeper. Although it is advisable to come with a private or rental car, By public transport you can reach: Sabadell city centre: 25 minutes by bus Barcelona: 20 minutes by bus to Sabadell + 1 hour by train Sant Cugat: 20 minutes by bus + 20 minutes by train Terrassa: 20 minutes by bus + 10 minutes by train By private car we can go, for example: Montserrat (monastery): 1 hour Girona: 1.5 hours Blanes or Lloret de Mar (Costa Brava): 1.5 hours Maresme beaches: 45 minutes Sant Miquel del Fai: 1 hour Mura: 1 hour Montseny (Santa Fe): 1.5 hours Sitges or Vilanova i la Geltrú: 1 hour Being outside of Barcelona, you will be able to avoid the traffic jams that occur at the entrance and exit of the city.

  • Nieves and Jesús are such lovely Hosts. Nieves prepared a delicious (and gluten free, as I am coeliac) meal to welcome us. Her homemade tart was yummy and we appreciated finishing it off over coffee later. Their home is very comfortable, so well - appointed and looks out over a lovely garden. We enjoyed our breakfasts on the terrace overlooking the garden. Their place is an ideal location to explore Catalonia which we did discovering real treasures like Caldes de Montbui, an ancient Roman spa town. and a day trip to Montserrat. We were also fortunate to catch the local town, Valles de Castellar Festival and enjoyed joining in the celebrations around the town, the fireworks and exploring local cafes and restaurants. Nieves also left us Train cards which we used to explore nearby Sabadell and into Barcelona both very manageable from their place. We were so pleased to see Nieves and Jesús again after having them at our home and we feel we have made good PLU friends again, thank you Nieves and Jesús.

  • We had a wonderful time at Nieves’ house. The house is great, with lots of space and a nice garden. Nieves did everything she could to make us feel at home, giving us access to useful tourist informations, leaving toys for kids, greeting us with a nice bottle of wine and local biscuits (thank you again so much!!). The neighborhood is very friendly and quiet and the town center easily reached by foot. We also enjoyed being able to spend a day in Barcelona or on the seaside (Stiges was a blast!). Castellar is a nice and friendly city, with lots of playgrounds for kids and we really enjoyed this location. I definitely recommend staying at their place, both for the house itself and the surroundings. Thanks again, Nieves !

We are Nieves and Jesús, a retired teacher couple who live in a quiet village near Barcelona. We have a son, Daniel, who currently lives in Melbourne, Australia. We are very happy to have gotten 4 exchanges to be able to go see our son, meet our hosts and tour a small part of that huge country. Also to be able to receive the first guests in our house. We really like traveling, nature and hiking. Now that we are back from Australia we can start thinking about exchanges for 2026! We are open to exchanges anywhere in the world (except Australia, of course). Apart from the simultaneous/non-simultaneous exchange for 4 people, I can offer hospitality for 2.
