General overview

Non-sim exchanges are easy during summer since we can spend time at our vacation home during your stay. We can only travel during school breaks. Chicago is a well-loved, top travel destination. While our home is in the "burbs" of Chicago, don't let that stop you. Our home - only 40 minutes from downtown Chicago - offers a wonderful assortment of family-friendly and nature-based outdoor activities IN ADDITION to all that Chicago offers. Our minivan is available, on request, to make it even easier to see and do it all. Within walking distance (< 1 mile) of our home, you will find: *** METRA TRAIN | whisks you into the heart of the city *** WATERPARK | An award-winning, large public pool *** PRAIRE CYCLING PATH | Our home is steps from a 61-mile dedicated, tree-lined cycling path. The trail meanders thru many downtown centers dotted with fabulous restaurants and breweries. *** RESTAURANTS/BARS | Our home is an easy walk to our local downtown which features many nice restaurants and bars. *** CRUISE NIGHTS | A summer concert series in downtown Lombard featuring live music and classic cars - free every Saturday June and July. *** LILACIA PARK | A world-renown 8.5 acre horticultural showcase featuring over 700 lilacs and 35,000 tulips annually. In 2019, the park was named to the National Register of Historic Places for its significant contribution to horticultural history in the United States *** LIBRARY | A brand new, beautiful library with tons of kid/teen activities PLUS free museum and city passes (we can help you get these) *** LINCOLN MARSH | This urban oasis with woodlands, prairies & more provides recreational activities. A 10-minute drive, or 30 minute bike ride along the Prairie Path. (NOT walking distance but too lovely to not mention) Within an EASY drive from our home, you will find the following (being outside Chicago means **much** less traffic and easier access). *** GARFIELD PARK CONSERVATORY | (15 minutes) One of the largest and most stunning botanical conservatories in the nation. Free. *** MORTON ARBORETUM | (15 minutes) A 1,700-acre, tree-focused botanical garden with a Children's garden and tree maze, snow-showing (winter), and gorgeous outdoor nature-themed art exhibits. *** SIX FLAGS | (45 minutes) Huge amusement & water park. *** STARVED ROCK STATE PARK | (45 minutes) Retreating glaciers 16,000 years ago carved out caverns and canyons that provide the perfect scenery for memorable hikes. Landscape includes forests, sandstone bluffs, and lofty lookouts over the Illinois river. We love to hike to one of several waterfalls. *** INDIAN DUNES NATIONAL PARK | (45 minutes) - A United States national park located just 1 hour from our home with incredible sand dunes and sparkling clean (and uncrowded) beaches. *** ILLINOIS BEACH STATE PARK | (1 hour) Surrounded by forests, marshes, wildlife and more. The beach stretches for six miles of coastline and consists of areas to swim, fish, camp, hike, take a boat out, and picnic. - ABOUT CHICAGO - You will love Chicago! Chicago is a top-rated travel destination with an abundance of things to see and do. Chicago has been voted "favorite US city to visit" SIX YEARS in a row! (by more than 240,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers)! The award has been given out for 35 years, and no other city has ever been chosen for the top spot for six consecutive years. The space

Enjoy our 1907 colonial farmhouse in a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood. Our neighborhood is very friendly and safe with lots of outdoor activities. Our home is tall with 3 floors and an unfinished basement The first floor has a living room with TV/Video consoles, dining room, well-equipped kitchen (we love to cook), and a relaxing sun room overlooking our naturally landscaped backyard featuring several butterfly/bee gardens. BEDS - All 4 bedrooms are on the 2nd floor. * Master Bedroom - King bed. * Bedroom 2 - Queen bed that many describe as "the most comfortable bed ever slept on!" * Bedroom 3 - New (2023) Full bed * Bedroom 4 - New (2022) Full bed with attached office. BATHROOMS First Floor Bath - shower/toilet Second Floor Bath - shower/tub/toilet THIRD FLOOR - The 3rd floor is a cozy hangout area with a TV and gaming equipment. We are happy to set-up extra beds on the third floor, if needed. We have 3 cots and 2 extra mattresses.

Notes

CATS - We have 2 cats that we can either board somewhere else or you can take care of. A/C - We have no central AirCo system. We have window A/C units in 3 of the 4 bedrooms, the living room, the sunroom, and 3rd floor. - these do a nice job of keeping the rooms cool on hot days. We can add a unit in the 4th bedroom on request. CLEANERS - We have cleaners who clean our home monthly. For a fee, we can have our cleaners come after your stay. Otherwise, we trust guests to clean before they leave (we usually find our home cleaner than we left it!)

Neighbourhood

Our neighborhood is very friendly, quiet, and extremely safe. You will often see people walking their pets or strolling to the park with their kids. The award-winning Lombard Commons public pool is within walking distance, as are many beautiful parks (including nationally recognized Lilacia Park).

Getting around

Downtown Lombard is an easy 10 minute walk, as is the Metra (train) station. Will be helpful to have a car for getting groceries but not 100% necessary.
