This is our vacation home. It is situated on a navigable tidal creek in the Lowcountry of South Carolina on the Atlantic Coast. The house has 3 bedrooms and 3 baths on the upper 2 floors and a fourth bedroom and bath on the ground floor which can be used to spread out if you so desire. We are just outside the lovely historical town of Beaufort, SC. We love the place because the house itself is a quiet retreat while the town is a ten minute drive nearby for great shopping, seafood, and strolling.
The Space
Upon entering the house, you find yourself in a room with a wall of windows facing the water. It is a lovely space to sit and enjoy your morning coffee or evening beverage while the rising and ebbing tides create an ever changing vista. From this comfortable vantage point you can view ibises, storks, herons, egrets, eagles, and dolphins,
This room flows into a great room with open concept tv room, dining area, and kitchen. The dining table seats 8. The kitchen is stocked with staples and well equipped with cooking equipment and utensils.
The main floor (one story up) also includes a master suite with king bed and bathroom with tub and shower, laundry room, guest bedroom with queen bed, and additional full bath with tub.
The upper floor is a suite with king bed, full standard bed, and bathroom with shower.
The ground floor of the house was originally not an enclosed area. Now it contains a standard bed, daybed, and bathroom with shower.
Guest Access
The main floor is up one flight of stairs. The ground floor has a walk-out entrance toward the water and an internal entrance to the rest of the house.
Notes
There is a long dock leading out into the creek, so young children need to be supervised. There is good fishing from the dock.

Neighbourhood
To reach the house, you travel through the historical town of Beaufort and then out of town past moss draped oaks and palmetto trees. As you near the house, you pass the area where scenes from Forrest Gump were filmed.
The area has been historically significant for over 500 years, playing major roles in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The National Park System has locations that focus on Reconstruction in the South following the Civil War. The nearby Penn Center is significant as the center of Gullah culture. Downtown Beaufort has beautiful antebellum homes on picturesque streets perfect for strolling. For those who want to see more similar homes, there are the nearby cities of Charleston and Savannah.
Getting to my home
You will need a car to get to the house and to local sites and excursions.
Nearest airport
If you are flying in, there are airports in Charleston, SC or Savannah, Georgia. Each airport is about an hour’s drive from the house.
Getting Around
If nature, boating, and bird watching are your thing, that is right outside the door on the house. Grocery stores and shopping are at least 5 miles away, so a car or Uber will be needed.

My husband and I are active retirees who love to travel. We were both teachers and then school administrators. One of our favorite things about traveling is getting to know the customs and cultures of people around the world. We feel that the best way to do that is to interact with people where they live. We also are excited about sharing our home with people who are not familiar with our part of the world.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
