Our home is located in a very quiet neighborhood in Alta, Wyoming. We are empty nesters and have started renovating and updating our dream home. We have installed in-floor radiant heating for a more cozy winter experience. We installed hardwood floors and have just recently installed our new custom gourmet kitchen. I will update photos as the magic happens!
Our home is at the base of the Grand Tetons and we are lucky enough to have incredible mountain views. We have a large deck with lots of seating to enjoy the stunning views. We also have a beautiful grill for al fresco dining.
We have no streetlights in our neighborhood so as to encourage wildlife and enjoy unbelievable views of the night sky.
I work from home and we have a strong WiFi signal.
The Space
We have one king bed in in our large master bedroom on the second level with an en-suite bathroom which has a soaking tub and a separate shower. We have two other small bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen bed and one with 2 twin beds. These bedrooms share a large bathroom with a tub/shower. On the main floor we have one bedroom with a queen bed that has an en-suite bathroom which also opens to the main floor laundry room and shower. All the beds are new and comfortably appointed for a cozy night’s sleep.
The dining room/kitchen has a large farmhouse table that seats 8. Our gourmet kitchen has new Kitchen Aid appliances and is finished with quartz countertops.
The living room is furnished with a grand piano and has seating for 8. We have a smart TV above our gas fireplace.
We are currently finishing our basement and will have a bedroom with a king bed there, along with an entertainment room with seating for 8, a large smart TV and large table for a workspace or for games. The basement should be complete in May 2024.
Guest Access
We have 3 steps to access our home. Once inside we have a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom on the main floor and the other 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms are on the second level.
Notes
Because of our cool night temperatures and temperate summer weather, we do not have air conditioning. The main floor is very comfortable, but the upstairs bedrooms can get warm during the day if the curtains are left open. But even if you forget to close the upstairs curtains, the night airs quickly cools the rooms with the help of our trusty fans. :)
Also, keep in mind that our mountain home elevation is 6440 ft (1963 m) above sea level, so allow your body 24-48 hours to acclimate before going on any long hikes. Hiking within 3-5 miles from my home starts at 7000 ft and only goes up from there!

Neighbourhood
Our darling neighborhood is located at the base of Grand Targhee Ski Resort. In the winter, walk out of our front door to 5 miles of cross country ski trails - groomed for classic and skate skiing, or take your skates to the library and enjoy the outdoor skating rink. Load your car with your ski gear and drive 10 minutes up Ski Hill Road to enjoy our world famous ski resort, consistently rated as one of the top ten ski resorts in the US. There are several rental option for all types of skis. We have all that information in the house.
If snowmobiling is your thing, we have several snowmobile rental and touring companies in town. If you bring your own machines, we have maps and links for several places you can ride.
We have two sets of snowshoes and poles as well as two sets of Altai Skiis (hybrid snowshoe/cross country skiis) at the house for your use on our five mile groomed trail just outside our front door.
After your snowy day of fun, enjoy our outdoor hot tub then cozy up by the fire for a relaxing evening in or head up to Targhee for live music and fabulous food at the Trap Bar and Grill.
Make your own meals in our newly remodeled gourmet kitchen or enjoy our world class dining options for breakfast, lunch or dinner in town or at the ski hill.
If you are a cross country skiier, you can enjoy two groomed tracks by our house. We can also give you information for other amazing groomed courses in Island Park and Jackson Hole. There are skate ski and classic rentals in town, reasonably priced and very convenient.
You can drive over the pass to Jackson Hole to enjoy the two other world class ski resorts there, as well as fabulous shopping and world class dining. There is also a shuttle bus that goes to Jackson daily in the winter and summer.
We are only 4 miles away from the Jedediah Smith Wilderness area and the Targhee National forest, so we do have a lot of wildlife like mule deer and moose in our community and often in our yard, munching on our lilac bushes and apple trees.
THE SUMMERS here are perfect! The temperatures are in the 70's and mid 80's F and humidity is ZERO. We are only 4 miles away from the Jedediah Smith Wilderness area and the Targhee National forest, so we do have a lot of wildlife like mule deer and moose in our community and often in our yard, munching on our lilac bushes and apple trees.
The summer/fall hiking is incredible. We have many beautiful hikes of various difficulty with water features within 10 miles from our home. The little towns of Driggs and Victor sponsor regular farmers and craft markets as well as one or two nights a week of free music.
Our area is known for it's world class fly fishing. We have experienced guides here in the valley. If you bring your own gear and would like to fish on your own, Mark is an avid fly fisherman and can recommend several excellent spots within an hours drive of our home.
Our area is famous for ballooning. You can pay for a balloon ride or simply enjoy them in the sky.
There are many horse trails in the area. Several places offer guided horse trail rides. The Teton County rodeo is a 10 minute drive from our home in Driggs and has shows every weekend in the summer, a wonderful way to experience the wild, wild west.
We have new tennis courts across the street from our house as well as free pickleball courts in Driggs. We have racquets and balls for both sports for 4 people. We have a 4-man raft available for you to enjoy a lazy float down the Teton river (you will need two cars for this activity) or swim in the Big Eddy.
And all this is before you decide to head over to Jackson Hole or Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks! You could spend every summer at my home for the rest of your life and still find unparelled beauty and new activies to enjoy.
Getting to my home
The best way to get to my home is to fly or drive. You will most certainly need a car to get around while you are here.
Nearest airport
Our nearest airport is the Idaho Falls Regional Airport which is 1 hour and 17 minutes away. Alternately, Jackson Hole, WY airport is a 1 hour and 23 minute drive over a mountain pass. Many visitors outside of the US fly into the Salt Lake City airport, rent a car there and drive the 4 hours to our home. The Salt Lake airport is almost always the cheapest option. That is the airport we use when we fly.
Getting Around
You will need a car to get around here. We do have a couple of adult bicycles, but we use these for recreation around our neighborhood. Our nearest grocery store is 4.5 miles from our home. Luckily we live in a resort area and it is a beautiful, gormet store!
