General overview

Our newly built house is in a southern suburb of Dublin city. We moved in in 2021. There is a pretty garden, with a small terrace and also a sunny patio for eating meals, and vegetables and raspberry canes.

The space

The house is very spacious and comfortable, on three floors, with four bedrooms, and four shower rooms, one of which has a bath too. There is a large open-plan living area , with a kitchen and dining table and large sliding doors opening to a terrace in the garden. There is a big sitting room on the ground floor with lots of books

Guest access

The ground floor is wheelchair accessible, and has an accessible wet room with toilet. If necessary we can bring a single bed downstairs, there is room for it in the sitting room, and that is beside the accessible shower room. The house is on three floors; the top floor holds the main bedroom, shower room and walk in wardrobe, and there are great views out to the Dublin mountains.

Notes

The house is very well insulated so it is very quiet and energy efficient. Lots of light in the living area from roof windows. We have quite a few things for children; a high chair, cot, a bed rail on a low single bed, as well as toys and books, that we use with our visiting grandchildren. Also available are two different sizes of child car seats.

Neighbourhood

There is a large and beautiful park, Marlay Park, at the end of our street. It is well known in Dublin for its weekend markets, walled garden, park runs, tennis, cafes, and craft studios. We are on the southern edge of the city. It is possible to walk from the house up into the Dublin hills, though it a steep climb! There are pinewoods and fields and views over the whole city just a kilometre away. There are also lots of local sites of interest, within walking distance or in a couple of kilometres. A 17th century castle, a small museum, more parks, and then about 8 km away you get to the beautiful Dublin seacoast.

Getting to my home

We are very close to regular bus routes into the city centre, and we can also get to the airport and to the coast by public transport right from the end of our street. A tram way to the city is about 3 km away, also connected by bus to our area. The orbital M50 motorway runs close by too, and that is the major transport link to all the routes out of Dublin

Nearest airport

Dublin, 30 km away

Getting around

There are shops at 1 kilometre, a pub at 500 metres; a huge shopping centre at 3 km. Very good public transport to take you into Dublin or to the seaside

Exchange means a lot to us. We really value the whole spirit of home exchange. Getting to know another place and way of life is so important, and you learn so much, about your own place as well. We are trying to limit flying so will probably only undertake British and European holidays, and we will be delighted to have Irish and British short exchanges. We offer a new and beautiful house, with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, with a garden, close to the country and to the city, and only a few kilometres to a lovely coast. We have exchanged many many times on another site, since 1993
