General Overview

Our modern corner house with garden at three sides is situated on the edge of the center of the beautiful historical small city of Delft. Famous for Jan Vermeer, Delfts blue pottery, royal family, Willem of Orange, the Technical University, botanical garden, a working windmill and the canals. Most of our exchange guest liked it even better than Amsterdam. For us it's a beautifull city with it's historical buildings, canal houses, lovely restaurants, culture (musea, theater) and nature all around us. If you walk to the end of our street, along the small canal you enter a nature reserve. In which you can walk, swim, surf (boat) and of course cycle. Within a 12 minute walk you are in the middle of the historical center. We have two times a week a food and flower market. Once a week there is a antique market. There is always something to do. You even can make your own Delfts blue tile! Our Neighbouring cities are The Hague (Schrveningen beach) and Rotterdam. Both reached within 20 minutes by car our public transport. A lot of interesting musea, architecture and events you can visit.

The Space

The house has 3 levels. On the groundfloor you enter the house and find a hallway with toilet and staircase. Through the door you will find an open livingroom with entrance to the garden, a dining area and kitchen with modern appliances. We like to coock all kinds of meals and bake. We love the designs of Gispen a famous Dutch designer. You will find a lot of furnirure from him in our house. The garden is al fenced with 2 exit doors you can lock. We have a bbq and dining area in the backyard. In the front garden we have a seeting area as well. In the backyard we have a shet with some outdoor toys and of course bikes (Depending on what we agreed we can exchange them too). On the first floor you will find a bathroom (bath, rainshower, 2 sinks and a toilet), the master bedroom with a television, a bedroom with a single bed and our piano room/ office/spare bedroom. On the second floor you will find a utility room with washer , dryer, the heatpump from witch we get our warmth through the underfloor heating as well as our underfloor cooling in the summer. The system for the solarpanels is also situated there. Some months of the year we are totaly climate nutral. On the same floor we have a spacious bedroom and an office space where my practice is situated. My practice is locked during exchanges.

Guest Access

The house has 3 floors and 2 staircases. So it's not really wheelchair friendly. Our children are adult/ teenager but we also have toys for younger children (lego, all sorts of games, wii and outdoor games). In the house we have 1 Stokke highchairs (without baby gear) for todlers. We do not have gates for the stairs. In our neighbourhood we have two playgrounds. One is very big, the other one is a small nature playground. My practice is locked during an Exchange.

Notes

In the Netherlands all distances are short (small country). It is easy to reach a lot of interesting places in a day trip from our house. Amsterdam, Gouda, Alkmaar, Haarlem, De Biesbos, Utrecht, de Veluwe, De Efteling and even Belgium.

Getting to my home

By car our home is easily reached from the exit of the highway. From the trainstation Delft center you can walk to our home 25 minutes or take the bus. The bus stop is at the end of our street.

Amsterdam ,45 minutes Rotterdam, 10 minutes

Getting Around

To the innercity, railway station, bus and tram and shops you can go by foot. Walking distance from 2 till 15 minutes. To get around in The Netherlands is easy by car or public transport. We are a small country so everything is near by.
