General overview
BEACH LIVING AT ITS BEST! We are 1km from the beach with its magnificent 18 km walking/biking track. There is a wonderful magnesium pool for a quick dip too! Our home is secure and private and cooled by ocean breezes. The modern kitchen/entertaining area overlooks the pool and the fully screened al fresco dining area by the pool. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed and opens directly into the screened outdoor room. If the traveling party is only three I prefer to lock the master bedroom. The second bedroom also has a queen bed and bedroom 3 has one large king single bed . The bathrooms are both very roomy and light filled.
The space
The spacious, modern kitchen/living/dining area is a fully functional and attractive space. The kitchen opens into a screened outdoor room next to the swimming pool which is securely fenced with child lock gates. The front garden is an ongoing project as I have just moved in November 2023! Cooling ocean breezes and birdsong abound and it is just a delightful spot to chill or venture out from.
Guest access
The property is completely flat and is all on one level. except for one step only at the back laundry door.
Notes
Hervey Bay has an airport. Flights connect to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane ! You are very welcome to our home! We look forward to visiting yours too ... and it doesnโt need to be fancy either! We just need 3 beds and somewhere different or interesting so please say hi ๐

Neighbourhood
If you can pull yourself away from the pool, the beach, the Esplanade with its cafes, ice-cream shops (70 flavours!) the pubs, clubs, water parks, etc ..thereโs plenty more to see and do! Hervey Bay is surrounded by state forests, walking trails and wildlife. Nearby, (1/2 hour) in historic Maryborough you can interact with kangaroos and dingoes as well as cuddly koalas at the Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary.
Humpback whales migrate from Antarctica to the sub-tropical coastal waters to give birth and mate and are best seen b/n mid July and mid October. Each year at least 1200 humpbacks migrate 5000km to the eastern coast of Australia. Hervey Bay becomes a whale nursery as the mothers with their babies choose to rest there for 2-3 months every year during the annual migration.
Hervey Bay is also known for its easy access to beautiful Fraser Island which guards Hervey Bay from inclement weather. It is just 15 kms, a 50 minute ferry ride from the coast. Fraser Island's World Heritage listing ranks it with Australia's Uluru, Kakadu and the Great Barrier Reef.
The Mon Repos Turtle rookeries (1 1/2 hours) are a definite must see. Every year, from November to March, you can join QPWS Rangers at Mon Repos Turtle Centre. You can join a guided tour to watch the turtles laying their eggs in nesting season from November to January. Or visit during the hatching season of the marine turtles which is b/n January and March when the sight of hundreds of tiny turtles struggling to the ocean is unforgettable.
In a little over an hour you can drive to Tin Can Bay. Itโs a beautiful spot to have breakfast after getting into the water to help feed the dolphins!
Rainbow beach is renowned for its coloured sand, beach drives and good swimmming and is a pleasant 1 1/2 hour drive.
The world famous Eumundi markets are renowned for its locally made artisan treasures, thereโs no other market quite like it. Another โmust visitโ along with nearby Noosa ... 2 hours drive. When youโre in the vicinity also visit The Kennilworth state forest and experience the fig tree walk and maybe spot a platypus. There are also some great waterfalls in the area.
Agnes Waters and the town called 1770 is a longer but rewarding day drive or you could stay or camp overnight. In the same area is Conondale National Park, Sunshine Coast Hinterland which is a 2 1/2 drive from Hervey Bay. Tucked away in this incredible park, the top section of the beautiful two-part waterfall at Booloumba Falls provides a paradisiacal backdrop to a series of crystal clear pools.
Getting to my home
After flying into Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane airport you would catch an airplane to Hervey Bay or catch the tilt train or hire a car. If weโre not around to pick you up the taxi ride from Hervey Bay airport is a quick 20 minute trip.
Nearest airport
The Hervey Bay airport is 15 km from my home a quick 20 minute drive. I will take you along the scenic esplanade to show off our beautiful coastline!
Getting around
The property is 1km (10 minute walk) to a great swimming beach. The Esplanade runs parallel to the coastline and is lined with eateries of all kinds from ice-cream parlours, (70 flavours!) coffee shops, cafรฉs, pubs, clubs and every restaurant imaginable. There is also a bus route along The Esplanade. Hire cars start at $30 a day and can be hired on the esplanade. Bicycles are also available for hire. Many of the clubs also offer a courtesy bus too.

Happy to meet up for a coffee or we can meet here at home. I know where the best coffee is, the special lunch deals, the freshest seafood, what to see/do .... and all the good Goss!
This exchange is another one that had been long in the making since I had been in touch with Lisa pre-COVID and later Joy when it finally looked like I could proceed with my planning.
I came straight from Fraser Island, where I had done a camping trip with another PLU exchange family, who dropped me off at a ferry taking me to Riverheads, where Joy kindly picked me up
It was so nice to meet Joy after chatting for so long ๐ she took me for a ride so I could aqquaint myself with the neighbourhood as well as taking me to a shop so I could grab something for dinner.
Joy had googled Danish breakfast and had bought that for me, waiting in the fridge. I didnโt realize there was a such thing, so we had a good laugh about that, but I highly appreciated her consideration.
I stayed in the separat apartment to the house, which was really nice, cosy, spacious and clean.
The next morning I met Joy for an early ride and she took me to see kangaroos and treated me to the most delicious brekkie and we went out to get fish and chips for dinner planning on taking it to the beach for the sunset.
She kindly offered to drop me off at the bus station early the next morning as I had to be there at 6 am
Joy is such a happy and positive person and I really enjoyed the time we got To spend together however short - thank you for everything Joy and I hope youโll have a fab time in Bolivia soon โค๏ธ
Baz and I have just completed10 days at Joy and Lisa's home in Urangan Hervey Bay.
Joy had everything prepared in advance and we had an hand over of the space provided by them.
A very comfortable apartment with two bedrooms, lounge area, lovely bathroom and a kitchen area to prepare tea and coffee, with a small fridge and washing machine as well.
The bed was very comfortable.
Joy provided a very big kitchen which we were able to use to cook our meals over looking the pool area.
Our meal times overlapped beautifully and we were both respective of our privacy with each other.
The location was brillant. A short walk to the esplande and beach.
Would definetley recommend this beautiful home to all.
Baz and Jen were an absolute delight during their stay here in Hervey Bay! They were good company when we happened to bump into each other and we had some laughs together. Jen enjoyed cooking up a storm in my kitchen and Baz braved the swimming pool in August! ๐ฅถโ๏ธ๐ง. The apartment was left in pristine condition even to the point of fresh linen on the bed on departure day. Baz & Jen would be welcome anytime they needed somewhere to stay on their travels. I would not hesitate to recommend them as the perfect guests.
It was an absolute pleasure to host Joy and Lisa. From the start, the communication was prompt and polite. They are lovely friendly people who took great care of our apartment. It was a pity we didn't get to meet in person!
Joy and her sister left our house sparkling clean. They were excellent guests, respectful, clean and great communicators. Would have them stay again in the blink of an eye. Thanks for making the swap a great experience.
Joy came to our home during Christmas. When we arrived back it was as though she had not even been here. Thank you for taking such good care of our home. While we did not meet Joy, communication was great and we feel that we did get to know her a bit. We wish her and her family well; they would be welcome in our home anytime.
Thank you, Jeannette & Danielle for a wonderful break in Melbourne! The #1 tram at the front door took us to almost all the places we wanted to go. The positioning of the flat is perfect and there wasnโt a single thing that we needed that wasnโt provided for our comfort. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was hot. I would be back there in a heartbeat. Cheers, Joy
My sister and I spent a week in Karinaโs comfortable home in Noosa, Queensland. The position was quiet and secluded with a fabulous natural bush view.. It was just lovely lazing in the swimming pool, watching kookaburras in the trees and hearing the bird song. we found the beds very comfortable and everything we needed in the kitchen. Thank you very much Karina for allowing us the privilege of staying in your home while my home was being renovated. Cheers, Joy
Lone was a wonderful guest in my home! Such a quirky personality, easy going and fun โฆ as well as funny! We saw the sunrise and said Gโday to the kangaroos who live at the cemetery and had the traditional fish n chips on the beach. She loved her Danish breakfast which was a hoot as she hadnโt known there was such a thing! ๐คฃ
Happy to host Lone whenever she is up our way again.
Cheers, Joy
Baz & Jen were THE most excellent guests! Baz did a few running repairs for me and Jen left the apartment dazzlingly clean with fresh linen on the bed! They even took me out to lunch with them on Jenโs birthday. Needless to say they are welcome back here anytime they found themselves in beautiful Hervey Bay. Cheers, Joy
Thank you Joy your review is there.
I forgot to mention in my review your generous supplies of goodies you left in the fridge for us.
Loved our stay.
Warmest regards
Baz and Jen
David and Tan and little Mia were an absolute delight to host! They had a lovely holiday while they were here in Hervey Bay. I do believe the cottage was left even cleaner than they found it tooโฃ๏ธ Iโm looking forward to our visit to beautiful Hoi An in Vietnam as soon as the planes return and COVID-19 is under control. We look forward to seeing this delightful little family any time theyโre passing this way.
Joy, Lisa & Wilson
Dear Maryann, I am blown away by the way you and Ken left the flat. It looked as if you hadnโt even been there and I appreciate it ever so much. You were wonderful guests and I look forward to hosting you again any time youโre up for another visit to Hervey Bay, Queensland. Cheers, Joy
I spent a lovely time over Christmas at Kathy and Johnโs beautiful and spotless home in the hinterland area of the Sunshine Coast. The house manual was absolutely mind-boggling as was the amount of informative brochures they left for me. Not to mention the naughty things Kathy left for me in the refrigerator and the freezer! During my short stay I visited the Nutworks and took a tour of the ginger factory and spent some time in the swimming pool and driving around the immediate countryside. I consider myself privileged to have stayed in such a lovely area.

We are a family group of three generations who have been exploring parts of the world and Australia together for over 13 years. This is our first house swap foray and we are super excited at the endless possibilities! We trust our beautiful home and seaside surroundings will interest and inspire you too!
I, Joy am retired now from work but not from life. I was a sales manager for many years before starting my own direct sales jewellery company with 10 employees and 200 commission agents across Australia. I am a neat freak according to my grandson which is probably the best asset I have to offer as both a home owner (you can be sure my home is comfortable, spruced up and spiffy for you) and as a potential home exchanger as I canโt turn the cleaning/caring gene off when Iโm in your home!
My daughter Lisa, who is our tour guide is an adventurer who drags us all kicking and laughing out of our comfort zone everywhere we go ... which so far between us has been The Phillipines, Vietnam, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Athens, the Greek islands, Zimbabwe, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria, France, Malta, Italy, the U.K., U.S., and coming up on our fourth 3 month visit to South America.
Lisa is my โboy/girlโ in that her father trained her to be self sufficient and taught her such diverse things as how to fix a water pump, rewire her caravan, repair fences, change a tyre and do running repairs, gardening and home maintenance in general. She would be an asset if left to oversee your home, pets and property.
Wilson is a free spirit who sees in nature, animals, art and music that which others may not. He loves small children and all animals! He is an accomplished musician and composer in English and Spanish which he speaks fluently. He plays a variety of instruments including the piano, guitar and Bolivian instruments such as the charango and zampoรฑas.
Lisa and Wilson are currently living in Cochabamba, Bolivia where she has now added a new listing to People Like Us. We are delighted to be able to offer you a place in the Andes in Bolivia, South America or a beachside stay in Queensland, Australia.
"Within a hourโs drive of Carlow. Three beds please August 11 to August 18, 2025 dates are flexible. Sim non-Sim or I have a globe.! Cheers Joy"

The march of the baby loggerhead turtles to the Pacific Ocean within 2 days of hatching. The mass migration happens every year between January and March.
Every year, from November to March, you can join QPWS Rangers at Mon Repos Turtle Centre on a guided tour to watch nesting (November to January) and hatching (January to March) marine turtles.
Arkarra Tea Gardens is a relaxing cafรฉ set on two acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. Sip on locally roasted espresso coffee, quality T2 teas or a glass of wine in your own Bali Hut as you listen to the local birdlife. After you are refreshed consider going for a short walk around the adjoining lagoons and take in even more of the natural beauty.
The rangers give children the opportunity to hold the baby turtles or to come up close while the female turtles are laying their eggs.
Humpback whales migrate from Antarctica to the sub-tropical coastal waters of Hervey Bay to give birth and mate. They are usually seen between the end of August and late October. During this period Hervey Bay becomes one huge whale nursery as the whales and their calves rest here before they continue on their migration. Each year at least 1200 humpbacks migrate 5000km to the eastern coast of Australia.
