General Overview
This is our family home in Missoula, Montana, USA. Missoula is a fun and vibrant little town surrounded by a nature-seekers paradise.
The Space
Built in 1959 with many modern updates, our comfortable family home has 4 usable bedrooms - the master has a king bed, the kids rooms each have single beds, and the office room has a foldout as an extra double bed. There is an open and airy living and dining room with a lot of natural light. Hardwood floors throughout the main level. Large windows line the expanse of the dining room and living room, though the home also boasts a lot of privacy. Galley kitchen with everything you'd need for cooking, baking, and food prep. Two bathrooms sit back-to-back, one with a shower/bathtub and the other was recently remodeled. The basement is spacious and cozy, carpeted, with a TV room, large laundry room/storage room, and a 3rd bathroom with a shower. We have air conditioning units throughout the home and solar panels on our flat roof.
The 5th bedroom space is the room that we use for storage and will be locked, not for use. The house is roughly 2900 sq ft. Our backyard is spacious (lot is on 1/3 acre) and has a trampoline, a hammock that sits under our apple tree, a fire pit, garden, and a new deck with a grill, fresh herb garden, and patio furniture. We have six hens who will give you eggs daily (March-October). They have their own run and coop that keeps them contained.
The front of the home has a double carport that holds family bikes (which you are welcome to) and a long driveway that sits on a quiet cul-de-sac with friendly neighbors that won't bother you, but also happy to be helpful, if needed.
*Please note - we have two indoor/outdoor cats (sisters), who are the sweetest and gentlest creatures I've ever known. They will need to be taken care of. They are important family members. They have an auto feeder and auto litter box, but need fresh water, occasional litter/food upkeep and lots of attention. The friendly and funny chickens need some very basic maintenance, but this can be outsourced, if needed. They love visitors with food scraps!
We love our home, we have put a lot of ourselves into it. It is modest, comfortable, clean, and taken care of!
Guest Access
There is a single step to access the main floor. There is a full carpeted staircase to the basement. Our deck is level with the home, but sits one step above the ground in the back yard. Front door and patio door access the home. Keyless entry.
Notes
We live in a residential family-friendly neighborhood called Wapikiya. There are no through-streets, so not much traffic and the neighborhood is quiet. A large park is a 3min walk with hiking trails, a great bike park is across from our backyard. Downtown Missoula is a 5-8min drive or 15-20min bike ride (a great trail system in Missoula) and always active with family-friendly things to do, shopping, many restaurants, cafes, breweries, parks, the river, and always various free community-run activities.
The Clark Fork River runs right through the middle of town and is great for fishing, wading, kayaking, paddle-boarding, and tubing (see photo) in the summer. You are mere minutes away from excellent hiking, mountain climbing, bike trails, river access, fishing, 30min from skiing at Snowbowl in winter (see photos). And so much more of amazing Montana is just beyond!
Flathead Lake is 1.5hrs. Glacier NP 2.5-3hrs. Yellowstone is 4.5-5hrs. Hot springs in every direction. Countless other amazing and special spots in the "last best place!"

People Like Us Local Guide
We are happy to give recommendations to our favorite places in and around Missoula! Including Glacier and that surrounding area. Depending on schedules, maybe meet for a drink, a smoothie, a saunter, or a hike.
After a long days drive from Salt Lake City, Jessica and Jeremy welcomed us for our 1-night of hospitality with tea and freshly made Zucchini bread.
Theirs is a welcoming and comfortable home, Mountain View’s from lots of windows and 2 friendly (but not pushy) cats.
We had to get an early start, but coffee was offered for our departure.
This is our 2nd time at J and J ‘s. We hope one day to return for a longer stay to explore the college town of Missoula.
Jessica and her family hosted me for a week in March while they were away, as I wanted to explore the city of Missoula. Two friends joined me for part of the visit. We enjoyed the in house company of two sister cats and a half dozen beautiful hens active in the back yard. Upkeep of the animals is largely automated, so it was a pleasure to share the affection of the cuddly kitties and just gather daily fresh eggs and be entertained by the antics of the curious chickens.
This bright home is well situated in a very walkable neighborhood, with amazing mountain views from the large wall of windows in the main room.
Just a few minutes drive to every store imaginable.
Their home is exceptionally comfortable, clean and stocked with everything you need without being cluttered. It was a relaxing, beautiful getaway~ all I hoped for and more.
We were happy to have Jessica, Jeremy and their sons stop for another night to break up a long trip.
We were not available to greet them on arrival, but they knew the place and were self sufficient at settling in.
We hope to see them again when they can stay longer to enjoy the sights in Bellingham, or when we get to Missoula. Short hospitality stays are a great way to build connections and community around the country and the world.
Jessica and her family were friendly, dependable guests who took good care of our home and left it very clean during our non-reciprocal exchange. She is an excellent communicator, and we were both on the same page at all times prior to and during the exchange.
We are glad that they enjoyed their time here and took advantage of the amenities in our local towns, and of nearby forest and meadow hiking routes. Her husband Jeremy even went spelunking in some local caves with one of their sons. We are especially glad that a small pod of Orca whales put on a show for them one day which they were able to view with binoculars from our oceanside deck.
We recommend Jessica and her family highly as exchange partners.
Jessica and her family were wonderful guests. We had great communication before and during their stay and they took great care of our home. :) All good things to say!
Jessica, Jeremy and their two boys were very easy guests. They left our Suite tidy, and we look forward to hosting them again.
It was great to see Beth and Frank again. We had a nice evening exchange of stories. It was a quick trip, as they were just passing through. I love how they both already feel like friends, thanks to home sharing.
Communication with Beth is always easy but thorough, and this hospitality came with simple, clear expectations and went off without a hitch!
Once again, Beth and Frank opened their suite to our family for one night, as we were passing through Bellingham. They are such kind people and their hospitality was generous. There was hot coffee and nice conversation before we headed out early the next morning. It's fun to make friends, not just temporary homes! 😊
Brent & Cheryl were amazing and their house is equally amazing! They are both very kind people and wonderful hosts who went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfortable. Cheryl is quite the cook! Their home is very clean and so beautiful, their gardens are gorgeous and the easy access to a rocky beach was magical. We saw whales from their deck and made friends with a resident seal lion.
It's definitely out of town and a drive from any shops or stores, but we loved it.
Thank you!
Jessica's home was very comfortable, clean, and had plenty of space and all the amenities we needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay in the area. The neighborhood is a quiet family neighborhood that is way out on the Nanoose peninsula. It has a rural feel and is about 10-15 min drive from Parksville, where you can find all the shops and stores you'd need.
If you're looking to be in the center of action or tourist destinations, this may not be for you. We enjoyed the peaceful escape!
Beth and Frank's suite is a part of their home that has been sectioned off for guests. It is private and was comfortable for our family of 4 for one night, as we were traveling through their town. They were home and we were able to spend some time connecting and getting to know one another. They provided us dinner as part of our exchange, which was so nice after a long drive. Their neighborhood is lovely and walkable. We enjoyed the quick visit.
This non-sim exchange went great! Communication with Beth was easy and friendly, all details and expectations were clear, and she took great care of both our home and our furry and feathered friends. Positive reviews all around!
