Neighbourhood

The cabin is at 980m above the sea, at the tree limit. You will find ample hiking areas, old farms, trout-filled lakes, biking tracks and short distance to (cold) lakes for bathing - in the summer. In winter the cabin is next to long cross-country skiing routes and you can put on your downhill skies and go straight into Ål Ski Centre (https://aalski.no/). In Ål city centre, you will find food shops, wine monopoly (welcome to Norway), restaurants and sports shops. Ål is about 20 min away from the larger towns Geilo to the west, and Gol to the east, with a larger service offering.

Getting Around

To get to Ål you can either drive from Oslo (3h15min) or Bergen (4h) along National Road 7, or take the train. The cabin is a 15 min drive just up from Ål, a small town in Hallingdal. There are also bus options from both Bergen and Oslo, and it takes about 3h30mins from Oslo Airport Gardermoen.

We'd be happy to meet for drinks, dinners, advice etc - in Oslo. Since we do not live in Ål, meeting there is difficult, We come from Bergen, and are more than happy to give advice on where to go and what to do in western Noway as well,

Ingvill

We are a family of four, living in Oslo, Norway. We are Ingvill (52), Niklas (53), Iben (19) and Mattias (17). We love travelling, and are open to most destinations. Somewhere warm, with a swimming pool, is always on our list.... We love food, history, people, having a laugh and just enjoying life reading a book or finding a nice restaurant. We can offer you a new (2021) mountain cabin at Ål, some 250 km north west of Oslo where you can ski in winter, have a bath in summer or use the cabin as a starting point to fjords, mountains and cities all over southern Norway. With 5 bedrooms and additional daybeds, you can bring your extended family and friends for a great retreat in the Norwegian yonder. We do have an allergy friendly Siberian cat who at times accompanies us at the cottage. Niklas, the allergic, does not react when he’s around. To be on the safe side, we always wash the cottage thoroughly after the cat has been here. Welcome!
