General overview
San Miguel de Allende, a colonial-era city in the central highlands of Mexico, is known for its Spanish Baroque architecture, active arts scene, and cultural festivals. In the city's historic cobblestone center is the neo-Gothic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, whose spectacular pink towers rise above the main square, El Jardín.
It has received over the years, a series of appointments and recognitions from International Organizations and specialized magazines in the tourism segment such as UNESCO, Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, Food & Travel among others.
San Miguel is known for its year-round temperate weather, walkability, and the ongoing cultural events that occur in and around the the town all year long. Because San Miguel is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world, many of the locals in the shops and restaurants speak English among other languages.
Our home was recently built with a contemporary Mexican design and has been professionally decorated and furnished. The home is nestled behind privacy walls and scrollwork iron gate. It features wooden vigas and beam ceilings in the living room, dining room and first floor bedroom, tiled floors, traditional metal French doors in the living room, dining room and both bedrooms. The home is open and bright on all three floors and features four patios with shaded and open areas and two fireplaces. From the second floor patio one can view the hills of San Miguel, the arroyo directly across from the house and the mosaics and murals of the arroyo walkway.

Notes
We have a cat who hates to travel. In all likelihood he will join you for your stay to manage the house and provide entertainment. All that is needed in return is fresh food and water twice a day and the occasional petting. (And don't forget the cat box which needs emptying every other day!) While Rocky can go outside on the first and second floor patios, he cannot go outside of the gate which must remain closed.
We have a housekeeper who comes once a week from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. If you prefer not to water plants, we can arrange for a person to do this as well. San Miguel is generally very dry so watering is needed every other day except in rainy season.
Smoking is not allowed in the house or patios.

Neighbourhood
Our home is located in a desirable and walkable location with friendly neighbors. As fate would have it, the closest neighbors are from many places but all speak English (and some of them Spanish). It is a 16-19 minute nearly flat walk to the Parroquia depending on route used. It is located near Fabrica La Aurora (9 minute walk), and a9 minute walk to Gil’s Tienda (
Uber and taxis are available by phone or you can always find taxis a 3 minute walk away on the main Calzada de la Aurora. Traditional food stands abound, especially on weekend nights in a neighborhood two blocks away where one can purchase everything from tacos, hotdogs, gringas, ice cream, beer and more.
The neighborhood is lively during the day with many school children who use the lovely walkway along the arroyo to get to and from school or to the sports field a short distance away. Here you can play or watch soccer or basketball, use the jogging track or work out on the outdoor equipment.
After dark, its generally a quiet neighborhood although you will see people walking home from dinner or on the way home from work.
Getting to my home
The closest airport is Queretero (QRO)which is a 45-60 minute drive with a close second being Leon (BJX), which can be anywhere from one hour and fifteen minutes to two hours drive. Mexico City airport (MEX) is also popular and is 3.5-4 hour drive. There are many private drivers who can be hired to pick you up and return you to any of these airports. Taxi service is also available. There is also a shuttle service (BajioGo) which is very reliable. More adventuresome folks may wish to take one of the bus services. Many people drive from locations in Mexico, the US and Canada (we did) and feel it is safe to do so.

Getting around
There are shops and restaurants all around us. One can walk to Fabrica La Aurora within minutes and dine at one of three restaurants and spend the day shopping. Restaurants and shops in Colonia Guadalupe are anywhere from 10-15 minutes by foot. Center is 15-20 minutes and has a tremendous selection of shops, restaurants, museums, gardens and sightseeing. Further away is Colonia San Antonio, about 30 minutes walking or a 10 minute cab ride which will cost around $4US depending on the exchange rate. There you will find a large organic and weekend artisan market and many other shops and restaurants. There are agencies in town who can help arrange for day and overnight trips horseback riding, visiting pyramids, hot air ballooning and more.
