People come here year round to feel the history of the town (which wasn´t bombed during the wars), to visit the special salt spas, to walk or ride along the many trails in the Lueneburg Heath, to go riding, play golf (at the Luedersburg golf course), to go shopping, to explore the exciting city of Hamburg (which many people consider the nicest city of Germany) or to go to one of the many amusement or nature parks nearby.
What else? Ask us, we are locals and have chosen to live here because of the city´s beauty, its proximity to Hamburg and the many great activities possible. We can also provide advice on what to do and see in Hamburg (30 minutes by car or train) or Berlin (2.5 hrs by car or train).
Berlin is a two-hour-train-ride from here and definitely a must-go, if you are going to stay in Lueneburg.
You can drive to the Baltic Sea in 1,5 hours, or go on many other great day trips.
You can also take the direct train to Luebeck, another town full of history and at the shore of the Baltic Sea. To spend a day at the beach, prepare to drive app. 1 hour. But there are lots of other natural swimming facilities around Lueneburg.
What is there that can´t be done here?
Well, this is certainly not a mountain area, but skiing and hiking are the only things I can think about which would not be possible here.
Our house is 8 minutes by foot from the main railway station of Lueneburg. From there you can get to Hamburg and its airport in 30 to 50 minutes.
