Neighbourhood
We are walking distance to the 2 mile bay sailing club where you can sit by the water and have a coffee or drink. Taupo is home to the world famous Wairakei golf course .Many find sanctuary on a golf course but it is rare to find a golf course that is a sanctuary, New Zealand's Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary is thought to have scored a world first! The ecological restoration is the first of its kind in New Zealand and was prompted by golf course owner Gary Lane’s desire to create a unique environment where golf and the natural habitat work in harmony. We may have a set of golf clubs to lend ,please ask ?
Nearest airport
Taupo regional is a 10 minute drive. You really need a car to explore the area better.
Getting around
A car is desirable to get to some of tourist attractions, like Huka falls and Rotorua is only 45 mins drive away .Napier is an hour and half away with its wonderful vineyards and restaurants .In Taupo we are In the center of the North Island, and about half a kilometre to the Lake Taupo, (New Zealand's largest lake ) Nearby isTongariro National Park which is a dual World Heritage Site due to its spectacular volcanic features and its importance to the Maori culture. In 1887, Maori chief Te Heuheu Tukino IV gifted the volcanic peaks of Tongariro, Ngauruhoe, and part of Ruapehu to the people of New Zealand in order to preserve this sacred land. One of the oldest national parks in the world, Tongariro is a land of dramatic beauty with towering volcanoes, turquoise lakes, arid plateaus, alpine meadows, and hot springs. A highlight of the park is the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, one of the most popular day walks in the country.
