General overview
In keeping with my Indian culture, my home is a shoe-free environment. Please remove your outdoor shoes upon entering. There are indoor flip-flops and socks to change into if you don’t have indoor shoes. Please leave used ones out of the boxes so I can disinfect and wash them for my future guests. Thank you.
The condo has 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms. However, only 2 bedrooms & 1.5 bathrooms are accessible to guests. Depending on circumstances where I may be away for an extended period, I could make the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom available based on exchange discussions. My home is located in a very nice & quiet neighborhood next to a recreation park for the town. The park has swings, a play area, baseball/soccer fields and a hockey ice-rink. My home is close to everything including a mall, grocery stores, and gas stations. Lake Champlain is just 10-15 minutes away. It is next door to Burlington which is a University town that always has a lot of fun activities. The State of Vermont is beautiful and is surrounded by mountains and lakes with both summer and winter activities. Skiing is about a half hour away and there are plenty of hiking trails close by. We are on a bike path too. Fall is gorgeous and we are known for our fall colors and that season is also a high tourist season. Plus, we have Ben & Jerry's ice-cream close by! There are lots of summer activities near the lake. Montreal is just 2 hours away and Boston is 3.5 hours away by car. New York City is a 45-minute flight.
The space
My condo has 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths but only two bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms will be available for use. I may be able to have the other bathroom available so ask if it is essential for your stay and I will consider your request. The bedrooms are upstairs with the living room, dining room and kitchen downstairs. I do have two very young grandkids that visit often so I have some stuff for kids but can possibly get stuff if you want to check with me. Also, there are some toys for kids and children books. There is a small backyard facing a pond which is really pretty to sit out and relax. There is a BBQ that will be available for use. I also have a solo stove for heat on cool evenings.
Guest access
The house has key code entry. There are two floors (ground level & first floor) and access to the upstairs is by steps. There is plenty of street parking in the summer. In winter, parking is only in the garage and on the driveway. I have space for one car on the driveway. If I have taken my car when I am away, the garage may also be used for parking.
Notes
Since I do live in a condo, there are some basic rules that need to be followed like parking in winter, guest use of pool & tennis courts, etc. Details will be provided in the handbook. It is best to rent a car as there are cute towns close by to get a feel for Vermont. Public transport is sparse but Uber & Lyft is available.

Neighbourhood
You will find plenty to do in the neighborhood. People are very friendly and helpful. The area is pretty quiet as we are on a dead-end street so there is no through traffic. The neighborhood has both condos and single-family homes and is a very small neighborhood. We have a neighborhood outdoor pool and tennis courts for our community. We are on the bike path and you can take walks on this path also. In July and August, our town has concerts and food trucks in the park adjacent to our community. The park has swings and other playground activity for smaller kids.
Getting to my home
To get to my home by flight, you need to arrive at the Burlington, Vermont airport (BTV). You can also drive to South Burlington, Vermont, depending on where you are coming from. There is train from NY Penn that is a pretty ride if you have time. It takes about 7.5 hours. There is also another train called the Vermonter from Washington DC and New York Penn Station but long. The train leaves from Essex Junction (about half hour from my home) at about 9:45 a.m. and is 9 hours to New York Penn Station and 13 hours to DC! I have taken it and it is a pretty ride if you don't mind the long trip.
Nearest airport
Burlington Airport (BTV) is just 5-10 minutes from my house. If you fly into Boston, MA,(BOS) it is a 3.5 hours ride and Manchester, NH, (MHT) is 2.5 hours. You can also fly into Montreal and from Dorval, it is about 2 hours from Montreal to my house.
Getting around
Since South Burlington is a tiny city, public transportation is pretty sparse. It is best to have a car/rent a car to get to places. However, since we are close to stores and downtown (city center) Burlington, you can use Uber & Lyft to get there and then it is small enough to walk around to a small grocery store nearby.

I can meet for a drink and tell you about the area. If you are from an international destination and can't drive here, depending on my availability, I can take you to see places. I have a lot of guests and am used to taking them to places of interest.
This was our second time being hosted by Ramani and we are looking forward to seeing her again in the future. Ramani is great host and makes you feel as if you are one of her family.
Always great to see you, Carol-Ann and was nice to spend time with you and your daughter. Hope to see you again….. Christmas shopping in Vermont😀?
Ramani was an exceptional host! Her communication was always kind and helpful. Her home was very lovely and it’s a great location to explore the area. We visited a farm, went apple picking, did a syrup tour, hiked, and more! We loved getting out and about nearby and appreciated having Ramani’s home to relax in during our down time. Thank you for trusting our family with your home, Ramani. We look forward to hosting you in FL!
Holly and her family were perfect guests. They took great care of my home and left it clean and ready for my guest who arrived the day they left. Holly was an excellent communicator and it made it very easy to plan their visit. Holly did a lot more to get the house ready for my return and did way beyond what I had asked to be done before leaving.
Thanks, Holly for the beautiful note accompanied by a lovely and thoughtful pie made with the help of Ella & Ethan. The bottle of wine will be enjoyed too.. Come visit again!
We had an amazing time staying in Ramani's lovely home. The house is pristine, beautifully decorated and very welcoming. The location was great and Ramani gave us awesome tips about things to see and do that we wouldn't have otherwise known about. Ramani was a thoughtful, generous and attentive host and we feel very lucky we got the chance to meet her in person. We can't wait to find out what she does with the Globe we gave her for our stay!
Thank you. Loved meeting your family. You’ll were great guests and left the house so clean. Will let you know when I use your globe😀! With the beautiful travel book gift you gave me, there are so many choices!
What a great stay we had in Ramani's house. And what a generous host (and guest) she is. We haven't been only exchanging home, we actually started a relationship. Great person, great home, great location.
Ramani is a thoughtful and generous host. She opened her lovely home to us and our son Julian, a sophomore at the University of Vermont. He was able to get off campus for the night and stay with us. We enjoyed breakfast together with all the benefits of a home cooked meal and the well provisioned fridge that Ramani shared with us. She left eggs, croissants juices, coffee, jam. Really a treat for him, and joy for us to be together. We can’t wait to meet in person and thank her again. Oh and she left chocolates and gifts , the chocolate to help Julian get through his finals. Such a comfortable home and generous spirit. Burlington, Vermont is on the beautiful lake Champlain surrounded by the highest mountain peaks in the state. Full of yummy little restaurants, wonderful breweries, and much to enjoy…Shelburne farms, Shelburne museum, favorites…we recommend a trip here.
Gay Lynette, Larry and Julian,
It was a pleasure to host you at my home. Thank you so much for leaving my home clean and neat.
Thank you so much for the beautiful original silk painting by Gay Lynette which I will treasure very much.
I hope to meet you in person and be more in touch with Julian through his college years here.
Take care and have a safe and wonderful holiday season.
Ramani
My friend Roxanne and I had a wonderful stay at Ramani's! She is an excellent host, even offering to pick us up at the airport, leaving us local welcome gifts and food to get us started! She stopped by our first day to ensure all was well and it was delightful getting to know her.
Her home is comfortable and spacious, located in a safe and quiet neighborhood; a perfect place to relax. It is very close to the Burlington airport, grocery stores and restaurants.
We were fortunate to visit early October and see the beautiful colors of the fall leaves. Her home is close to many places to explore and take day trips and Quebec is also only a few hours drive. This is an absolutely gorgeous area of the country, with quaint picturesque small towns. We were constantly taking photos!
Thank you Ramani!
Awesome host! Beautiful home and surroundings. We had a such a nice time this week! Thanks again.
I met Ramani when I was staying in Burlington on another PLU exchange last year. My daughter and I love Burlington, and we wanted to come back to spend some time with the host family from last year and see their cat again. Ramani generously offered to host us this time.
She is not only super nice (she lets me leave my car for extra few days and offered to bring me to/from the airport!!) but also an amazing cook. She fed me her homemade yummy soup when I arrived her place hungry. And her kitchen is a chef's heaven- I wish I know how to use half of her spice collection.
I loved watching pond from the window every morning with a cup of coffee. I'm already missing her comfortable house.
Tomoko,
Loved having you and your daughter. Come visit anytime..
Ramini was an amazing host. Her communication was excellent and she even gave us great suggestions on things to do. Her place was spotless and decorated so beautifully for the holidays. She went above and beyond to make sure we had a great vacation. The location was great for skiing and exploring Vermont. I highly recommend for anyone that wants to visit Vermont.
As great as Ramani was as a host, as great she was as a guest. Not only did we find our home in perfect condition when we came back, we had a present and very nice note waiting for us. As a first home exchange with People Like Us, we could not have had a better person.
Ramani and her lovely family came to our home. I am pretty sure they had a lovely time from the discussions we had. They visited and did many activities in nearby places. We very well might see each other again in the future!
We had a wonderful stay at Alexandre & Catherine’s beautiful home. They welcomed us with wonderful local gifts. The home was right next to a park which was great for my grandchildren. Alexandre kept in touch to make sure our stay was comfortable. He stopped by with his adorable daughter and got to meet my family.
The town has some great hiking very close to the house. There is also a great national park a short drive with more areas to hike. The next town over, Kamouraska, has great restaurants and had an art festival.
We’ve been to Quebec City and would never have thought to go to St. Pascal. So glad that Alexandre proposed an exchange. It was such a great experience. I would highly recommend Alexandre & Catherine’s home.
Thanks, Alexandre and Catherine. Hopefully, our families will meet again.
Ramani is a great communicator and a lovely person. She is someone you can feel very good about having at your home . She will be welcomed again with open arms and I look forward to visiting her home one day !
Thanks, Michelle. Look forward to having you in my home next year.
Ramani and her family were excellent guests. They arrived late, so I didn’t get a chance to meet them in person but it was easy to communicate with her to set up the exchange and while they were in my home.
Everything was exactly how I had left it , you couldn’t even tell they had been here except for the thoughtful gift they left behind.
I’m looking forward to seeing her the fall to complete my part of the exchange and meeting her in person.
Thanks, Carol Ann. Looking forward to meeting you in person in the fall.
It is always a pleasure to have Carol-Ann visit my home. It was so good to spend time with her and her daughter as I was also home. They were wonderful guests and are so respectful of my home. We enjoyed getting to know each other and I hope to hang out with Carol-Ann in the future when I visit her at her home.
Holly & family were perfect guests. They left my home in a pristine conditions and did a lot more cleaning than I requested. Holly is a great communicator both before, during and after the exchange. It was fun about to hear what they were doing and seeing.
They went apple-picking and the kids helped make a huge apple pie which I will share with my grandkids soon. Also, thanks for the Shelburne Vineyard wine.
Looking forward to visiting their home this winter and hopefully, also meeting them in person which I was unable to do when they came to my home.
Glad you first PLU visit was to my home, Holly. Glad the kids had fun on their nature walks with their Dad and enjoyed the bunny visits to my backyard 😀.
Troy, Toni and their adorable children were the perfect guests at my home. It was wonderful to be able to meet them when they arrived for their stay. Toni was a prompt and excellent communicator. They left the house tidy and very clean. It was a pleasure having them as guests. They left a beautiful travel book that will inspire me on future PLU trips. Thanks Toni and Troy.
Denis and Marie-France were excellent hosts to me & my friend, Linda. They had just joined PLU the night before and were very surprised when I contacted them for an almost immediate exchange. They prepared their home for us and even got a house manual in record time.
Their home is lovely and in a perfect spot. It is spacious and has a lovely balcony to have breakfast and enjoy a drink in the evening.
Across the street is Mont Royal with fabulous walking paths. The neighborhood is close to everything and very walkable with great restaurants. We also got great restaurant and patisserie recommendations from them.
Glen and Marie-Francis welcomed us with Montreal bagels and croissants, along with other treats like fresh fruit and ice-creams.
There is also indoor parking which is such a huge plus in a city. A car is not essential as it is so walkable to places and you can just use Uber if you need to go places.
Thanks Glen & Marie-France for your hospitality. We had the best time and we consider you as friends now and look forward to more exchanges with you.
Glen & Marie-France were excellent guests. They looked after my home and left it clean. They arrived before we left so we could meet face-to-face. My friend, Linda, and I hit it off immediately with them and felt like we were old friends. We chatted for a while and got great information from them to make our stay at their home memorable. I encourage PLU members to exchange with them as they are wonderful hosts.
It was a pleasure to host Gay Lynette, Larry and Julian at my home. They took care of my home and left it clean and neat.
They gave me a beautiful original silk painting by Gay Lynette which I will treasure very much.
I hope to meet them in person and be more in touch with Julian through his college years.
Marla visited my home with her friend, Roxanne this October. She was great in communicating throughout the proposal. It was great to meet Marla and Roxanne after they arrived and to know them. We kept in touch when needed during their stay. They looked after my home really well and left it very clean and tidy in spite of having to leave on a very early flight. Marla and Roxanne left me a beautiful basket of gifts which was so thoughtful of them.
We will keep in touch and hope to meet up sometime again either in my area or theirs.

Alex and Catherine are wonderful guests. They looked after my home well and left it in a very good condition. It was nice to be able to meet them with their adorable daughter and their friends who accompanied them.
I’m glad they had a wonderful time and were able to use my grandchildren’s things for the kids.
We are looking forward to spending time at their home in Quebec in July.
It was wonderful to host Tomoko and her daughter during the Easter break. I was able to meet them before and after their visit. My home was kept very clean and they treated it with a lot of respect. I got to know them a little and they are so sweet and loving. I would love to have them come visit anytime even as hospitality guests. Thanks so much for the special New York chocolates you brought for me. They were yummy.
Corrie and her family were great guests. Excellent communication throughout. It was her first PLU exchange and she did so well in taking care of the house. The home was left clean and took care of things that needed to be done before leaving. Unfortunately, I was not able to meet her and her family but hopefully, we will meet in the future.
We stayed at Michelle’s rental home as her home was being renovated. It was a beautiful mansion on the ocean. Michelle was wonderful throughout the process. Her communication throughout and during the exchange was excellent. We met on FaceTime and she came across as a wonderful and giving person. I look forward to her and Marc’s visit to my home. I hope to do an exchange at
Michelle’s home after she moves back there. I feel we’ll be friends when we do meet in person.
Carol Ann’s home is located in a quiet neighborhood. It is so comfortable and relaxing. There is a pool and beautiful garden in the backyard which is great in the summer. Carol Ann was very good in communicating and flexible considering this was such a last minute exchange. She left us some yummy cookies too. A real convenience was being able to park on her driveway. This allowed us to stay out late and not stress out about finding street parking which is a challenge in Montreal. Carol Ann’s home is about 15-20 minutes to the center of the city but we had a car so it was not a problem. Thanks, Carol Ann. Looking forward to you staying at my home in the fall.
