Bongaree is the oldest, and most charming part of beautiful Bribie Island, north of Brisbane. From my place you can go for walks to the beach, the foreshore at Pumicestone Passage and a wonderful bird sanctuary. Take the car for a very short drive or one of the bikes to go for a beach walk or a swim in the surf on the ocean side. Clubs, restaurants, coffee shops, shops, library and museum all within walking distance. Shopping centre, swimming pool, twin-theatre (with 3D facilities) within easy reach. Golf course, tennis courts, parks with bbq facilities, markets, etc. etc. Something for everyone.
Brisbane and the international airport are a good hour's drive from here; a huge shopping centre a mere 40 minutes. Buses stop in my street or catch the train on the mainland, in easy reach by either bus or car. There is really no need to leave the island, it's got the lot, but..... if you really want to expand your horizon there's the Glasshouse Mountains, Fraser Island, Australia Zoo (home of Steve Irwin), Moreton Island and dolphins, the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise, all within easy reach. By the way, the island is connected to the mainland by a bridge.
