General overview

The Bunkhouse Lodge is a luxurious retreat for couples and families alike. With its eclectic mix of all things "cowboy", this lodge is like no other accommodation in Medicine Park! From the ample wrap-around veranda you can see Mt. Scott rising nearly 2,500 ft off the prairie floor. The drive to the top of this piece of granite is one of the best scenic views in all of Oklahoma. Behind Mt. Scott, you will find America's first wildlife preserve named the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. Bicycles, kayaks, motorcycles, and hiking await your discovery on sixty-four thousand acres. You are sure to be impressed with the scenic vistas and historic sites. There are rock formations larger than a small city in this place. You could start the day with a fly rod and a largemouth bass, hike to a natural bridge by noon and end the day with a steak at the Old Plantation restaurant in Medicine Park. If you like watersports we have the famed, granite bottom, blue water Lake Lawtonka, just at the foot of the mountains. You would have to drive eight hours west to see anything like this. Eclectic would describe this lodge but it reflects the multi-facets of Southwest Oklahoma on a year-round basis. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do! The Bunkhouse is a very popular house on VRBO and Airbnb. We love to travel as a family and would love to make an exchange on our open dates!! We looking forward to hearing from you. There is a $125 cleaning fee per stay!

Neighbourhood

The story of Medicine Park began in 1908, when it was founded as Oklahoma’s first resort town. The founder, John William Elmer Thomas, fell in love with every aspect of it, from the unique cobblestone deposits, to the mountains and plains that surrounded the town, to the wilderness beyond the horizon. He bought the land and began construction on what he called the “Medicine Park Summer Resort and Health Spa,” referring to the medicinal qualities of the nearby Medicine Creek that the Plains Indians had told him about while visiting. In the 1980's the town began to flourish. As the population grew, the resort aspect of the town began to re-emerge. Cobblestone cabins were renovated and businesses began opening up shop. Bath Lake and its waterfall became the secret swimming hole of the area, and in the summer, families would come out in droves to escape the heat. Medicine Park was thriving once more. Even today, Medicine Park hasn’t forgotten its roots. Buildings retain some of the same names they were given during their original construction. The cobblestone buildings still greet visitors when they come into town. But perhaps the best aspect of the newly invigorated town is that it still retains the original purpose it was founded on: discovery and adventure. When you talk to the residents and shop owners, this isn’t a cash grab for them. It’s about the town itself and wanting to share it with the world. www.medicinepark.com Not only is Medicine Park right down the road, but we also have the wichita wildlife refuge which host amazing hiking, fishing and animal sitings (buffalo, longhorns, elk and prairie dogs) https://www.fws.gov/refuge/wichita_mountains/
