We love to fall asleep listening to the waves year round. Our neighbors are all permanent residents and the beach is a 3 minute walk. Our home has a cottage feel and is warm and inviting - including in winter with a lovely wrap around working fireplace. Expansive porch for summer life and a lawn with poplar trees. Hot tub for all season use is lovely after an ocean swim or during the cold of winter.

Neighbourhood
Our neighbors are all year round residents of Plum Island. The Island is amazingly quiet year round - even in the busy summer season. Just down the street is the Parker River Federal Wildlife Refuge known to serious birders, with lovely trails winding through the dunes and marshes. The City of Newburyport is a quick drive over the bridge with it's bustling downtown and shops, as well as top notch restaurants serving seafood, Italian, Steaks and Mexican fare among other specialties. Boston is an hours drive with trains and buses into the city available as well. Portsmouth New Hampshire is less than an hour away as well with plenty to offer. Salem Mass is a 40 minute drive from our home.
Getting to my home
Logan Airport in Boston is 45 minutes away. Route 95 from the North and South and The Massachusetts Turnpike from the west provide easy access to Newburyport and Plum Island. There are buses from Logan Airport to nearby Seabrook N.H.

Getting Around
You will need a car to leave Plum Island. Uber is available in the area as well. There are trains to Boston and other North Shore towns, including Salem, Beverly and Ipswich. There are also buses and trains to New Hampshire and Maine, including Portland.
I had a wonderful, relaxing, two weeks at Jean and Scott's Plum Island home. Their home feels like a quintessential New England beach cottage - homey, full of history, sea shells and books, and surrounded by friendly neighbors. The Atlantic ocean is just two blocks away, and I walked the beach for miles every day. Their home is also just blocks from the Parker River Wildlife Refuge, a prime spot for bird watching and beautiful walks (and an EV charging station, if you - like me - end up with an electric rental car!). If you want, you can walk a few blocks in one direction to see the sun rise over the ocean in the morning, and then a few blocks in the other direction to see the sun set over the salt marshes. I highly recommend this cozy spot for those who want a rustic, restorative, get-away by the sea.
We LOVED our stay at Jean and Scott's home! It was perfect for my husband and I, our daughter and her boyfriend. It is close the beach, the wildlife refugee, and town. We biked and walked everywhere, enjoyed the house, its backyard, the hot tub, and the location. We left feeling relaxed and content. We would welcome the opportunity to return. It is a very special place. Thank you Scott and Jean.
Excellent and easy to communicate with! Left everything super clean-above and beyond. Such easy and kind guests!
Gila was a delight to host. It was only our second time hosting and Gila helped make communications go very smoothly. She took wonderful care of our place including washing sheets and making beds which was so helpful. She even left some gifts for our new grandbaby! I would not hesitate to host Gila again!
Dorothy was everything you could hope for in an exchange. We are both new to PLU and trying to navigate the terrain - Globes etc. I am so glad Dorothy and her family were the first people we hosted! My husband said our place looked cleaner than we left it. Sheets washed, patio swept and more.
I would gladly host Dorothy and her family again. She made our first hosting experience as positive as it could be and was very understanding of some of the things I had forgotten to provide (wi-fi password!) and some maintenance (painting) we were not able to get to as I was recovering from a broken leg leading into her family's stay at our home.
I would recommend Dorothy and her family as guests to anyone!

Jean, Your home was wonderful and our stay was a delight. Thank you so much. Best, Dorothy
Bonne's place was just perfect for our trip to NYC. First, it's an adorable place and second it's clean, functional and well located for so much of what there is to explore in the city. We were able to meet Bonne and she was incredibly helpful with tips for the apartment as well as the area (dining, bagels etc.) She was just a text away the whole time we were there.
If you're looking for a comfortable place to stay, steps away from Central Park and well located for the subway and great food, Bonne's place is for you.

My husband and I have lived in our Plum Island home for 40 years and can't imagine ever living away from the ocean. We are retired. We are hoping to travel to interesting places both in the U.S. and Europe/Asia. We love food, nature, history, the arts and culture and love exploring new places.
