General overview

This is a two storey modern house with a tenant renting out the walk out basement. The house is located in a cul-de-sac in the neighborhood of Mahogany, at the SE end of Calgary. This is a lake community with access to the lake through a pass card, with boating in the summer and skating and cross country skiing in the winter. This is a family home of mom, dad, an an active four year old, and there are plenty of toys for kids.

The space

The house has an open concept layout, with the main floor having a large laundry room, kitchen with gas stove, oven, fridge and microwave. The living room has the TV, and both the living room and the dining room are both open to the kitchen. An open staircase leads to the second story, which has two bedrooms - one double bed, and one king bed, and an office. The office contains two workstations with dual monitors for people who work remotely, and a printer. We have a toddler, so there are lots of toys in the bonus room. The backyard has a small sand pit, and outdoor seating.

Guest access

Both the front entrance and the house have a staircase.

Neighbourhood

This is a lake neighborhood in the city, with access to a small sandy beach in the summer, with kayaks, water bicycles and stand up paddle boards, as well as flotation devices in the lakehouse. In the winter there is skating and cross country skiing in the same area. The neighborhood is built around wetlands which are incorporated into the community development. There are tons of bike trails weaving all around the community and surrounding areas. Like any neighborhood there are many shopping locations near and far. The closest grocery store is walking distance, in the middle of a plaza with a few neighborhood amenities - bakery, pub, butcher, etc. Calgary is nestled in the foothills of Alberta, and is the closest airport city to Banff National Park - 90 minute drive away, as well as Canmore - 60 minutes away, and Kananaskis areas.

Getting to my home

Calgary is a very spread out city, and it has an international airport to welcome visitors. The fastest way to get here is by cab or uber.

Nearest airport

Calgary International Airport is a 30 min drive to the house.

Getting around

The closest grocery store is walking distance, in the middle of a plaza with a few neighborhood amenities - bakery, pub, butcher, etc. There is a large shopping centre a ten minute drive away, with all possible stores, but the local area grocery stores offer plenty of variety. There are adult bicycles in the garage.

Howdy! I am a CPA with a small bookkeeping practice. My husband Rick is a stay at home dad. We both work from home. We have a 7 year old daughter who loves to travel. Business usually keeps us in the Americas for time zone purposes, but later we hope to broaden our travels. We generally prefer longer exchanges, unless plane tickets are reasonable. We have a small dog now living with us, which will not be home during an exchange.
