Neighbourhood
My house looks out on a park area and a small canal.
Right next door in addition to other homes there are a gym, a beautiful green historical cemetery (Vincent van Gogh's mother is buried there) and a really fun children's playground.
As I'm located in the city centre, basically anything you need is at walking distance; shops, restaurants, grocery stores, parks, museums, cinemas etc.
It's a residential area so pretty quiet and very safe.
The city of Leiden is quite an authentic and interesting place to visit. It has many canals, the oldest university of the Netherlands dating back to 1575 and was the birth place of Rembrandt, the famous painter. There are great museums, and it is also just a very nice place to wander around and explore.
Some specific suggestions as to what to do in and around Leiden:
Naturalis Biodiversity Center - https://www.naturalis.nl/en
National Museum of Ethnology - https://www.volkenkunde.nl/en
Windmill museum Molen de Valk - https://molenmuseumdevalk.nl/en

Keukenhof - https://keukenhof.nl/en/ (the famous flower garden; only in Spring!)
Nearest airport
Leiden is only a 15 minute train ride away from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Getting around
There are several bus stops within 5 minutes walking distance, the central train station is at 2 km: a 10-15 minute bus ride or an 8 minute bike ride. You can also walk it in about half an hour. Leiden is very centrally located in the 'Randstad' region, as it takes only 35 minutes by train to Amsterdam, 10 to The Hague, 30 to Rotterdam and 40 to Utrecht. Also the beach is just some 10km away. I have two bikes available for use, a regular one and an e-bike. When you stay at my home you also have my private parking spot at your disposal.
I'm part of a private carshare, if you're looking to use a car we can look into arranging this. However since public transport in The Netherlands is among the best in the world, there is no actual need for one when you visit.
