Our recently extended and renovated home is located in a quiet village about 20 minutes' drive from Lisbon. We are also 20 minutes from the beautiful historic town of Sintra with its palaces and castle and about 30 minutes from the bustling coastal town of Cascais. The gorgeous beaches of Sintra and Cascais are a similar distance away.
Guest access
Our house is built on several levels and there are steps between the living room and one of the bedrooms, as well as up to the converted attic space. Three of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, but there are a couple of steps to negotiate to get to the back bedrooms and bathrooms.
Notes
We ask our guests to feed our cat (and give her water from a tap as that's the only way she will drink it!). She's super easy to look after and comes and goes as she pleases through a cat flap. We have a dog, but will arrange for her to stay elsewhere when we exchange.

Neighbourhood
The village has two cafés, a basic restaurant, a bakery that makes what our son calls "the best bread in the world" and a hairdresser. The next villages over have minimarkets, pastry shops and basic restaurants serving typically Portuguese dishes for a very affordable price. There's a large shopping mall with lot of amenities (clothes, supermarket, electronics, Kidzania theme park and other kids' activities, cinemas... ) just 10 minutes away.
Nearest airport
Lisbon airport is about a 20.-minute drive from our house.
Getting around
It is important to have a car as, although there is a bus stop just a minutes' walk from the house, buses only run a few times a day. We can consider a car swap (Citroen C3 from 2010 - very reliable, but nothing fancy and not ideal for long trips).
Catarina was a wonderful host, very communicative. The house is big and comfortable for us, we enjoyed the barbeque :) and Lily's company. She helped us a lot providing information of the area and was very helpful when our car got broken. Thanks, Catarina and family!
Thanks so much Rocío! It was an absolute pleasure to have your lovely family stay in our home. You are welcome back any time.
This was our first exchange with PLU, but we have done many many others. And this was one of the best, the house was big and spacious, and well equipped. Importantly, for us from Ireland, there is a lovely shady terrace, and the house was quite cool, especially at night. Catarina is an excellent communicator, we exchanged dozens of messages, and she has been very helpful throughout
Thanks Linde. We had a lovely time and felt it was just the tip of the iceberg for Ireland, so will be back.
Catarina and her family were awesome guests! They took such good care of our apartment and our cat Java and left the place spotless. Communication was great. They even sent us pics of our kitty while we were traveling which was much appreciated. They are welcome to come visit anytime!
Thanks Corrie. It was an absolute pleasure to stay in your lovely home.
Catarina and her family left our house and garden in better state than we left them!
Not so! It was perfect when we got there. :)
Corrie and family were perfect hosts and sweet Java the cat did an excellent job welcoming us to NYC. Communication was smooth and very friendly and the home guide was very thorough and helpful.
The apartment is very comfortable and in a wonderful location just a block away from Central Park and with many great restaurants and coffee shops nearby that allowed us the privilege of becoming New Yorkers for the week.
Thank you so much Corrie for sharing your lovely home with us!
Rocío and her family were the perfect guests. They communicated well throughout the exchange and were very appreciative of our home and area. We would happily have them back again.
We spent a restful and very interesting 10 days at Linde's beautiful home. It was our first time in Ireland and we couldn't have had a better introduction. Linde's house is very comfortable and well-equipped and has great access to public transport close by. It's also close to shops, pubs and cafés, and a gorgeous public park is just minutes away. It's in a quiet, safe and friendly neighbourhood of South Dublin. We also enjoyed Linde's lovely garden and the veggies from the vegetable patch.
Linde was very easy to communicate with and provided us with lots of details about Dublin and surrounding areas. We exchanged lots of messages by email and on whatsapp, so it was super easy to arrange our exchange and coordinate arrival times, key exchanges etc. This was our first home exchange (we have done a few housesits before, but never a simultaneous exchange) and it was great to have Linde's guidance as she's a very experienced house exchanger.
Our house and cat were very well looked after.
