Neighbourhood
VERY QUIET and very beautiful neighborhood. It's silent at night. My apartment building has very thick walls and you can never hear the neighbors unless they and you are out on the balconies but even then that's rare. The house is beautifully designed where you cannot see the neighbor's balcony from my balcony unless you make an effort to stretch your neck to go look for that. Directly below my building is a small path (now paved) that dates from Roman times!
Nearest airport
Geneva is the nearest airport, but Zurich is not much farther away. Milan is doable if you prefer to fly in and out of Italy on your trip, which could be cheaper if you're seeing several countries.
Getting Around
The bus to my house from the train station runs every 20 minutes. There are two bus stops you can choose from nearby, only a 3-5 min walk from there to my house. However, I walk everywhere in Montreux, both up and down the hill. That is one of the most important and special aspects of living in Montreux for me...a walkable town!! Note that there are kilometers and hours of walking you can walk along the lake and of course, there is no up and down walking along the lake and in the nearby Rhone valley past Villeneuve. You'll never run out of walks or hikes to take with magnificant views.
