Oldenzaal is in the East of the Netherlands and is very close to Germany. It is a compact and cozy city, surrounded with nature. It is not a big city, but it has a nice citysquare with terraces, cafe's and restaurants. Shops close at six and on Fridays at nine. You can walk to the bakery, the supermarkets and other shops, but of course you can also take the bike. There is a local indoor and outdoor swimming pool, museum, nice shops and restaurants. In summer we have a special festival, from 4 until 9 of august in 2020, when bands are playing music in the evening in the city centre and with lots of little stalls during the days. A huge recreational water is within 15 minutes of biking. The area is ideal for both biking as well as hiking. You are in the woods within 10 minutes of walking. And if you like to do a climbing trail with heights from 2 to 12 meters you can visit Avatarz (5 min by car). There are several Indoor playgrounds and big swimmingpools you can visit by car. We also love to go to a very nice theme park in nature, Kettlerhof, one hour drive from our home in Germany.

Getting around

Public transportation is very well organized in the Netherlands. There is a bus stop within 7 minutes of walking from our home. There are nice cities very close you can visit by bus or train and also by bike, like Enschede, Denekamp and Ootmarsum. Other nice places a bit further away can be visited by car of public transport like Deventer or Giethoorn. And of course bigger places more in the middle and west of the Netherlands like Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam can all be visited by train. You can even go into Germany very easily from here. Going by train to Berlin is also very easy as Oldenzaal is the last trainstation before the border to Germany. You can get there in 4 to 5 hours by train. Cities as Bremen and Hannover are 2 hours driving away. The city of Münster an hour.
