Neighbourhood
Oldenzaal is located in the east of the Netherlands and is very close to Germany. It is a compact and pleasant city, in the middle of nature. It is not a big city, but it does have a nice town square with terraces, cafes and restaurants. Shops close at six o'clock and on Fridays at nine o'clock.
You can walk to the bakery, supermarkets and other shops, but you can also take your bike.
There is a local indoor and outdoor swimming pool, museum, nice shops and restaurants. In the summer we have a special festival, from August 4 to 9, 2020, with bands playing music in the city center in the evening and many stalls during the day.
A huge recreational water can be reached within 15 minutes by bike. The area is ideal for both cycling and walking. You can reach the forest within a 10-minute walk. And if you like a climbing course with heights from 2 to 12 meters, you can visit Avatarz (5 min by car).
There are several indoor playgrounds and large swimming pools that you can visit by car. We also like to go to a very nice theme park in nature, Kettlerhof, an hour's drive from our house in Germany.
Nearest airport
Schiphol in the Netherlands or Münster/Osnabrück and Düsseldorf in Germany.
Getting around
Public transport is very well organized in the Netherlands. There is a bus stop a 7-minute walk from our house. There are nice cities nearby that you can visit by bus or train and also by bike, such as Enschede, Denekamp and Ootmarsum. You can visit other nice places further away by car or public transport, such as Deventer or Giethoorn. And of course larger places in the center and west of the Netherlands such as Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam can all be visited by train.
You can even easily enter Germany from here. Getting to Berlin by train is also very easy as Oldenzaal is the last train station before the border with Germany. You can get there by train in 4 to 5 hours. Cities such as Bremen and Hannover are a 2-hour drive away. The city of Münster one hour.
