People Like Us Local Guide
We live on the West Side of Brisbane and are happy to show people around Brisbane City, Southbank Parklands .....West End, The Valley, Mount Coot-Tha Lookout, the Toowoomba ranges etc....
Near our home we have a lovely recreation area called Colleges Crossing....... fishing, BBQs etc.....
Lots of bird life for the twitchers out there!
Also happy to host a dinner at our home to show you some good old Aussie hospitality 😎
Our very first hospitality visit! Could not in our dreams have asked for anything better! Sandi and Steve made us feel so welcome in their home.
Sandi is a truly inspired chef in the kitchen and Les thoroughly enjoyed learning from her. The two of them meshed as a team in the kitchen and we dined on the results.
Sandi is also an amazing tour guide. She took the time to take us to Southbank, including the man made lagoon and beach beside the river, lunch while keeping the food-stealing Ibis birds at bay, and river rides on both the Kitty Cat and the bigger City Cat vessels.
Steve was kind enough to teach Les the basics of Australian Rugby, complete with the differences between Union and League play.
Les, my sister Wendy and I enjoyed their home, the yard (with fruit tress galore), the swimming pool, and of course their super friendly pups Hamish and Hera. So much fun!
Sandi and Steve have inspired us to do our best to pay their hospitality, kindness and friendship forward. They are truly great examples of what the PLU community is meant to be about. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.
You are most welcome.
We loved hosting you and know we will meet again!
After all, Les and I have so many more culinary delights to explore 🥰
Beautiful exchange with Sandra and Steve.
We were delighted by the house, the garden, the area, and our host warm welcome. Special thanks for Sandra’s sourdough.
Brisbane is a very pleasant and interesting city to visit.
You won’t regret to stop one week or more in that house.
Thank you very much, Sandra and Steve.
We wait for you in Lyon, now that you visited Lagos !
Hi Nadine and Dom
Thanks so much for your kind words.
We loved having you all as guests…
And yes, Lyon is definitely on our “to do” list!
We will definitely look forward to you guys coming back to Australia again in a couple of years and there is always an open invitation here in our home 🏡
Sandi and Steve
A truly amazing stay in Sandi and Steve’s gorgeous Queensland home. Everything was perfect - the house, the pool, the location and to top this off Sandi had prepared a lovely meal to welcome the six of us (Grandparents, parents and two grandchildren) when we arrived.
It was an idyllic place to stay and it was with difficulty that we dragged ourselves, particularly the children, away from the pool and “Manland” (a room full of toys!) to visit Brisbane, the Koala Sanctuary, the Gold Coast beaches and theme parks, and the rainforest which are all within easy reach.
Thank you, Sandi and Steve for our wonderful 8 days in your home. Hopefully we will catch up with you next year.
C9lin and I have just completed a 2 week exchange with Sandra & Steve. This is our second time here and we really enjoyed coming back and spending time with Hamish.
This time it was Christmas and New Years, we loved the Christmas decorations & delicious treats left for us to enjoy a quiet holiday with Hamish.
It was an absolute pleasure….
We are so pleased you enjoyed our little slice of paradise 🙏
You were the perfect guests!
The house was immaculate when we returned, no one would ever have known that 6 people had stayed there.
We are so looking forward to meeting you when we come to the UK in 2025!
My trip Down Under was long under way Thanks to COVID, buts ome good things did come out of it….
During the two year postponement Sandra and I started to chat and when I went into the final stages of planning dates and locations,, she kindly offered to host me for a couple of days, which I happily accepted 😊
When I came flying into Brisbane, Sandra work her schedule so that she could Pick me up at the irpot, which was very kind and a great luxury.
The home of Steve and Sandra big and spacious and I got a lovely room with own bathroom.
A beautiful decorated home with all you could need to make your stay perfect, not to forget the big garden with veggies and fab pool area.
Last but not least, there is Hamish, the gorgeous labradoodle 💖
The first night we had dinner with a potential New PLU family and hopefully they will join us in the future.
Though Sandra had to work, she took time out to take me for a drive to Rosewood, where I had my first pub meal with a “schnitty” ☺️
I spent two lovely nights in Chuwar and managed both to squeeze in a run and some chill time, which was really nice and so easy in the calm surroundings of the Clarkes home.
If you want the best of both worlds, then their home is superb as you can reach Brisbane easily as well as other locations, but also enjoy a relaxing home day by the pool and patio.
Thank you for your hospitality Steve and Sandra, the talks and laughs as well and I look forward to meet you again 🙏
Thanks so much lovely Lone…..
It was such a pleasure to meet you finally and we would welcome you back anytime!
Now tou have had a “schnitty” next time we will introduce you to the “Parmi” 😂
Travel safe and well Lone.
We just completed our exchange with Sandra, Steve & their adorable fur baby Hamish.
We felt very welcome from the start, especially since we had communicated for quite a few months organising this & future exchanges together.
We had a lovely home cooked meal together the day before Sandra & Steve left for their trip over seas and didn’t take long to feel at home with the adorable Hamish.
Sandra & Steve’s home is situated about 40km from Brisbane, a large block of land with loads of Australian bush around it. We were given a very helpful info pack which we referred to when needed, we weren’t able to do sightseeing this trip, but will look forward to it with our next trip.
Grocery stores, restaurants, medical centre was a very short 5 min drive, so didn’t have to go far for essentials. their home is surrounded by beautiful natives garden, a welcoming covered entertainment area and good sized low maintenance in ground pool. We must say the best part was taking care of Hamish, he is such an adorable dog who loves people company, loves to play and cuddles. We are looking forward to our next exchange with you and can’t wait to see Hamish again.
Thanks Lena and Colin…..
We loved hosting you both in our home.
Hamish was so happy to welcome you as his human companions for the time we were travelling and was so well looked after as was our home.
We are all so looking forward to seeing you again at In Dec!
Steve and Sandi x
We were hosted 2 nights by Sandra and Steve, in their fabulous house. By chance, they were present during our whole stay, which gave us the opportunity to share a wonderful moment together. Every room of their huge house has been decorated with an excellent taste and the Queensland winter weather allowed us to enjoy an aperitif on the cozy terrace, nearby the pool. We really spent 3 relaxing days in these outskirts of Brisbane, forgetting the noise and stress of its CBD. We warmly recommend this couple and their home for your future exchanges.
Thanks so much Marc and Elena for the lovely compliments regarding our home!
We love it here and we hope you enjoyed sharing our little piece of Aussie Bushland Paradise with us 😊
Sandi and Steve
Sandra & Steve are wonderful, communicative guests, Even helped us to prepare the home for our next guests😁
Kept the place in good order.
So glad they even do day tours to Batu Ferringhi area with our recommended taxi driver and explore Phuket as a side trip
Hope to welcome them back.
We were delighted to host Steve and Sandi as our first exchange. They were very helpful in providing tips and ideas on how to find, connect and make exchanges. They were also all round great people. We had a catch up one even in our deck and enjoyed their company.
Our unit was left tidy on their departure. They were great guests who we recommend to other PLU hosts.
It was lovely to finally meet Sandra and Steve who favourited our home many years ago
They left our home lovely and clean and tidy and once Amelia overcomes her fear of anything creepy or crawly we may visit them in Australia
I opened my home in Portugal to PLU because of Sandra and Steve, and I don’t regret it a second.
They were the perfect guests.
We have been in contact on the FB PLU page and I already felt like they were friends.
We look forward to meet them next year in Brisbane.
Bon voyage en Europe!
It´s been an absolute pleasure to host both Sandra and Steve at our home in Malaga, Sandra and I have been in touch over the FB group and we have chatted via messenger over the past few years. I was also their Secret Santa last year. So by the time they arrived to Spain it really felt like having friends over. They have taken perfect care of our home. It was great to be able to meet them in Granada for a little tour of our city and then in Malaga where we organized a get together with other members who live and Malaga and others that were visiting our city. We then headed home for coffee and desserts. We hope we can visit them one day and travel to Australia.
Although we have not yet met Sandi and Steve in person, Sandi was a friendly communicator leading up to and during their stay. They kept us updated on arrival and departure details and left the house in an immaculately clean condition. We look forward to meeting both Sandi and Steve when we have the pleasure of staying in their peaceful location.
We had the absolute pleasure of hosting Winnie, Les and Winnie’s Sister Wendy for 4 nights.
To say that Aussies and Canadians hit it off like long lost cousins is an understatement !!
We hit it off straight away and spent many hours together sharing stories of our lives, our travels and truly enjoying each others company.
So much fun and laughter.
Because Les is also a foodie and has a passion for cooking we spent hours in our kitchen with me as Head Chef and Les as my Sous Chef…. 😆
The tables will be well and truly turned when we get to visit their home 😉
We created Sourdough Bread from first principle, and I also introduced him to my favourite vegetarian dish Sicilian Caponata.
We will certainly be swapping lots of our favourite recipes.
This trio are easy going, very jnteresting and just all round great company.
If you get the opportunity to exchange with them or host them, do it! You wont regret it 😊
We hosted Nadine, Husband Dominique and their travelling companion Dominique…
To a non simultaneous exchange after we stayed in their apartment in Lagos last year.
They were wonderful guests and left our home in a beautiful condition!
We were even welcomed back with a lunch they had prepared.
Thanks so much guys!
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend that you host them in your home.
We look forward to crossing paths with them again in out travels.
Bon voyage guys and please come back to Australia again!
Thanks so much Kit and Sik for opening your home to us
What a fabulous location 😊
The apartment was so spacious, comfortable, and well equipped….the balcony and view outstanding.

We had the absolute pleasure of having Linda, John, and their Daughter, Son in Law and 2 kids stay….
They were perfect guests who communicated brilliantly from the start.
Our home was absolutely immaculate.
You would never know we had just had 6 guests stay here.
We really look forward to visiting them in the UK in 2025 as we didn't get a chance to meet on this occasion
Don’t hesitate to have Linda and John as guests in your home 🏡
Steve and I had a wonderful 8 days at Christina and Ians home.
We were lucky enough to take our 2 dogs Hamish and Hera as its “ pets allowed” which is a huge bonus for those of us who have fur babies!
We had the downstairs apartment .as our hosts live up stairs, although the guest entrance is quite seperate
The apartment has a massive deck with great views to the sea.
We were lucky enough to share a glass of wine with Ian and Christina who are truly lovely people.
We even came come with a freshly baked loaf of sourdough and some cuttings from the garden!
The location is perfect being 5 mins walk to a gorgeous beach, part of which is dog friendly.
Thanks so much guys for being wonderful hosts!
A huge thanks to Sarah Lawson, Vlad, Rosamund and Amelia for welcoming us into their home……
The welcome gifts of home made cakes, jams, coffee, bread and wine were much appreciated…..
The animals were fab!
An off the grid, get away from it all experience in rural Portugal in contrast to Lagos
Sarah, cant wait to follow your travels in Costa Rica!
We stayed at Nadine and Dom’s apartment in Lagos.
Thanks so much guys, the apartment is gorgeous, spacious, clean and smelled absolutely gorgeous with the candles and diffusers around.
The artwork, furniture, decor is very classy.
Very well equipped, absolutely everything you could possibly need.
The robes are a great touch and the towels lovely and soft.
Under building parking.
Only a block back from the waterfront near the Marina.
We walked absolutely everywhere and left the car in the garage which made it super relaxing 😎
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this exchange to anyone and Nadine’s communication was great!
Thanks guys for making it a wonderful exchange ❤️

Peta’s home is a beautifully relaxing beachside place.
